Dia, Javier and Nakia are the standouts for me.

omg i cant believe i didnt realize that it is Dia from Meg & Dia this entire time. Isnt that a bit unfair that she is a professional musician signed to a label and competing on the show?

You realise that most of the contestants on this show have been dropped from record labels/close to signing/on other reality shows before right? That is the point. It's not about rags to riches, it's about actual singing ability.

Meg & Dia don't even make enough money to tour properly ffs.

I love Vicci's voice so much. Her performance was absolutely amazing. She seems like the underdog in my opinion, based on who the other three most likely choices are: Dia, Javier, and Frenchie.

I think at this point it shouldn't be restricted to keeping one contestant per team for the finals. It should be the four best period.

My choices for the four best are:

Dia
Javier
Nakia
Vicki (sp?) or Adam's girl

Beverly and Frenchie were just okay and Xenia will be great at some point, just not right now with that horrible stage presence.

Since it isn't just the four best I think the results will be:

Javier
Vicki
Dia
Beverly

My only other complaint for this show is the lack of constructive critiscm from the judges. I know these are all very talented and capable singers, but not every performance is as perfect and mind blowing as the judges are letting off.

I agree with just about everything you said. It drives me a little crazy with how the judges shower them with compliments when really they could use some criticism. Xenia could be great a few years down the road. She has an awesome voice, but it seems like she has no creativity or personality when it comes to the actual song. Something Dia trumps her in in every way.

I've been really rooting for Casey but this week was just a bad song choice for her, and it was just a boring performance because of it. It also doesn't help that Javier killed it.

Why are they rushing the show so much now? With this final 8 I would be happy with just weeding out one or two each week to give them multiple chances. I'm kind of dissapointed it's cutting people so quickly now.

I was happy with the final 8, thought they were all the perfect choices. I thought it would be harder to pick the top 4 but a couple people dissapointed.

Javier
Nakia
Beverly
Dia

Team Dia and Nakia

I originally thought Javier was going to steamroll over everybody, but now... I could actually see Dia ending up as the winner. #5 in iTunes, compared to #7 Javier, and it seems like she really has build up a surprisingly large fanbase.

Vicci is still my top pic, but hey, Dia winning wouldn't be so bad either.

Also, totally random, but I'm surprised how many gay/lesbian contestants are in the top eight. I think most people don't know that fact about most of them, but still really nice to think that things like that aren't a factor when people vote.

They need to release the actual LIVE versions of the songs rather than the generic isolated studio shiet they have now on Itunes.

That's another thing this show has over American Idol. It lets the contestants be who the really are, and doesn't force them repress themselves to avoid pissing off close minded jerks.

If I had realized that I wouldnt have posted it, obviously.

If I get bored I'll actually give my review on all the performances from yesterday, but for expediency my selections where:

Team Christina: Beverly McClellan

Team Cee Lo: Vicci Martinez

Team Blake: Dia Frampton

Team Adam: Javier Colon

Agreed ... though one thing that bothers me is how the show decided to (not) frame it. For other contestants, they discussed how they've had deals fall through, etc ... and nothing was brought up like that about Dia.

The reality is she has more touring and recording experience than most of the contestants on the show. Hell, two of their albums were released on Warner labels, they opened for Angels and Airwaves in '08, and have even done some European touring. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meg_&_Dia

I have no issue with their success, but how the show has handled this seems more than a little disingenuous. From what I recall they've basically framed her as someone being new to this, almost in the same way as Xenia. If I was the latter I'd be kind of pissed at this point. And to be honest, Dia seems to have played along ... I honestly wonder if she was almost acting nervous on purpose in earlier shows.

What's arguably worse is the judges seem to be going along with it too. They obviously know her past ... yet they seem to be acting like she came out of nowhere too ... and are all surprised at how she's opening up as a singer, etc.

I'm starting to smell a fish.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong about the above. If they did bring up her past ... I'll delete this. It's possible I missed it since there were so many contestants on the first show. Was her band ever brought up?

Yeah, that's a pretty safe bet for the top 4.

Screw you Adam, and screw you America.

Well, probably won't make you feel any better, but even if we ignored Adam's vote Javier received a clear majority of America's vote.

Wow, that was a lot closer than I thought it would be. Dia got 100-something while Xenia got 90-something. Both deserve to be in the finals, but I'm happy Dia made it. I just love her voice so much.

EDIT: lol, another close one. Definitely didn't expect Frenchie to come that close. The system seems to work. I approve. Couldn't ask for a better final four.

No, I think you pretty much nailed it. She had to be playing shy the first few weeks considering her experience level. The show, the judges, and her seem to be ignoring her past.

That's why I added the "screw you America" part. ;)

Wow. I've been right on every choice all weeks.

I AM THE PUBLIC AT LARGE

What's obnoxious is they're still playing it up. Carson felt the need to go on about how shy she was - blah blah blah.

I've been able to call it every week too. The show seems to have progressed the way it should, instead of random terrible surprises like on Idol. Great final 4, but if I had my way I'd give Christina no finalist and add Casey.

Also, fire Daly. Terrible. The ending was cringe-worthy.

Hm... original songs next week. Interesting.
O' rly?

Seems especially Dia and maybe Javier have a crazy leg up on that. Granted I'm not familiar with Vicci and Beverly's prior writing experience.

If Dia's arrangements on this show were mostly her own (and they weren't made prior to the show) ... then I think she's going to pretty much kill it. Plus as far as I know, she's one of the main writers in her bands. Javier's voice is so insanely good though, that he might be able to power through.

It'll be interesting to see what everyone comes up with. Who knows, maybe the others have been songwriting for ever too?

Wow ... no love for Beverly? She's been one of my favorites from the beginning. She's just so natural out there. Able to sing with such passion, ease, and freedom ... yet still maintain insane pitch control. I think she's been consistently one of the most pitch-accurate on the show, yet's been moshing all around the stage and doing a ton of vocal gymnastics.

I really love Casey's tone. She has a beautiful voice, but at this point in her career she seems very limited in what she can do. Beverly just has way more versatility and stage presence. I really liked that Casey played some guitar in prior shows, but Beverly showed she can play an instrument as well.

I don't know ... just not feeling it. Guess it matters what's being measured. Is it just tone? Is it versatility? Stage presence? Overall music ability?

I am shocked Bev got it over Frenchie, but I am super happy because of it.
Is it just me, or does Frenchie sound a bit sharp at times? Maybe it's just her tone, but for someone with such a powerful voice it just sounds a bit off or forced on certain high notes.

This show is so predictable...but honestly...I'm kinda lost now who is going to win. Safe bet is Javier but Vicci could pull the upset. I'd be shocked if Dia or Beverly won.

I would think actually seeing the final performances might help in coming to a conclusion :p

Though if it's true that next week will involve original songs, I would think Dia automatically becomes a front-runner? At least I wouldn't but her at the bottom of the list.

I really loved Beverly during her first blind audition on the show, but lately it seems like she's just screaming for the sake of screaming. And when I thought she'd finally dial it down for The Thrill is Gone, she went back to what she does. It's just a bit excessive.

Man, they really need to bump up the production values on this show. (Was that a PA yelling a Frenchie to stand on her mark in the dark?) :/ And the sound on this show continues to be really shoddy. You can't hear the performers half the time.

It's obvious that NBC wasn't expecting it to be this popular from the beginning, I'm sure next season will see a dramatic increase in polish.

And Carson Daly? Super awkward. I don't like to say people should be replaced, because it's a person's livelihood, but I'm really not feeling him as host. (Maybe a new co-host to play off of?)

Anyway, about the results. I'm shocked that the four finalists were all the America's Saves from the last round. SHOCKED. ;D

I like that the judges are so supportive of their team, but I don't know if I like the point dividing method. I think they should score the performances individually.

And I didn't hear the part about original songs, but if so, Dia's gonna kill it. :)

My girlfriend and I just got back from being in the live show. It was a much better experience than I expected--lots of interaction with the crowd--and the acoustics were decent. I'll write more on the episode in general later but I thought you guys might like to know that Blake was crying his eyes out all night. The poor guy was agonizing and at one point went over and apologized/cried to Xenia's mom. It really put the relationships that can build in this format in perspective.

That said, wooo Dia!

So .... 100 / 100 then? :p

When did it become cool to hate Carson? He was the only guy who ever had balls to say what he wanted, at any time of the day. Almost nobody, has the balls to do that. Not your favorite actor, or singer.

Getting dropped from or signing with a record label isn't entirely about singing ability at all.

In fact, at least for this season, I'd say the singers on the Voice were a half step behind the singers on idol (not counting the final two gah). Xenia to semifinals when she was pitchy as all hell and looked absolutely terrified every time she was up there? Don't care how nice her tone is...just no.

Perhaps you missed his decade on Mtv, allowing teenaged girls to screech at boy bands.

That opening number was a trainwreck. Just not the right song for this blend of artists. Christina in particular was just awful.

Hahaha, Christina giving Javier critiques... 'I genuinely don't give a fuck'

I'm team Beverly all the way. Amazing vocals, and she really seems like a cool chick.

Dia and Vicki thankyoucomeagain
