ND should've made a Tommy DLC instead of wasting time with Factions II

Dual Sense Edger and Blower
Think about it. It would've been perfect. Something on the scale of The Lost Legacy, showing Tommy's side of the three day journey. The would've gained back part of the community that wanted to play as Joel in Part II, and would've put out something actually new by 2023.

Tommy was such a badass in the second game, I wanted to see more from him and the potential for meaningful content was really there.

I don't know what the hell were they thinking with the online MP fad. It was such a bad decision for such a veteran studio.

Every ND game since Uncharted 1 had a MP mode. While they weren't as successful as say like Gears of War, I enjoyed them quite a bit as well as Factions and they all had their share of dedicated players.
At this point anyone bringing up "wasting time" with Factions 2 are completely missing the point. Having no MP in their newest game was the exception, not the rule.

EDIT: Forgot that Uncharted 1 actually did have a MP mode too, changed my post to reflect that.

In the best case scenario, Factions 2 would have been a part of the TLoU 2 package or released as an add-on to it a few months later, instead of attempting to be spun out as a full title in itself.

To add, personally my favorite thing about TLoU2 is all the new mechanics they added to fully flesh out the actual gameplay. It's a waste they didn't add a MP mode to take advantage of the improvements and add value to their game. Some cross between like original Factions/Metal Gear Online/The Division would have worked great with the new combat mechanics.

This of course doesn't have to interfere with any other SP content they produce. It was never an issue in the past, why now?

I really wanted a new game taking place immediately after Sarah's death. Joel and Tommy hunting the general who gave the command to kill Joel and Sarah while the world falls apart. Sounds fun to me. Don't care about MP unless it is an MMO.

In my post I said,

Factions 2 concept.
honestly that video as a concept is exactly what Factions 2 should have been at the very least. that kinda violence for a game would have been pretty gnarly since a lot of the time characters are more "cartoonish" than straight up people slashing each other.
i just know in my heart the mouthbreathers were probably asking naughty dog to create 1000 skins to sell to people for $50. it was too much. Factions 2 would have worked better if it was simply a tacked on online mode, but those don't exist anymore because the Fortnite money is too hard to resist.

ND or Sony could've done anything. Let Bend work on a side Uncharted game like GA. While ND could work on a TLOU side story, smaller project.

They could also sort of port the PvP mode from 1 over and improve on it.

They could've done anything and it would generate profits since they IP are hugely popular. Instead, Sony rather invested in Firewalk and let Bungie do a GaaS game since they've been so great with it lately.

Can't believe we lost of on so much potential with the TLOU2 gameplay mechanics.

Solo missions
Co-op missions
Team death-match
Battle royal
Infected survival mode
Exactly, there was a very high ceiling for different modes and how those could be achieved with the new gameplay mechanics as well as the setting. The world of TLoU is perfect for a battle royale type game at the very least. All the scavenging mechanics are already in place.

No, what ND should do is put on their big boy pants and release the fucking game. Bollocks to Bungie (even if marathon looks interesting.)

Factions II, had it released by now, could have been a successful title, Sony's first hit GaaS and they could have formed a sister studio or enlisted help from another studio to create content for it. Job done.

At this point I would have rather they made Factions 2 instead of waste resources on the disaster that was TLOU2.

I mean it's their resources to waste, who are we to say without investing in the product lol.

What are these resources anyway (if they exist)?

I'm not as high as everyone else on the gameplay being some amazing thing for MP. It's prob Naughty Dog's jankiest game when it comes to animations happening in weird ways at times. My standout is the intensity of the combat, and idk how that would work in MP. I didn't play Factions, but is TTK as low as it is in the single player? I feel like if that was lost, everything would be lost. That's what makes it amazing. How fast, violent and chaotic encounters are. I love the ballistics. I'd love just to get new maps to play single player. I don't even need a story. Lord knows I don't even like the story we got. Just love the gameplay loop

What a fucking waste of time and money, especially time. Those people could have worked on something that would have actually shipped.
Tommy DLC, indeed.

Because Factions was great.

Tommy is not that popular.

People mentioned tommy alot because they hated abby and joel is no longer around.
Before this no one cares about Tommy.

Tommy should be fucking dead, this was one of the most story frustrations of LAST OF US 2, you cant fucking survive a headshot without major hospital intervention and surgery, and he comes back at the end with only an eye patch

TLOU 2 had story problems this idea would have only made it worse.

I love your idea and would go a step further to create Half-Life type expansion packs that shows the same events from a different perspective.

Opposing Force - You play as a FEDRA agent.
Blue Shift - You play as one of the Fireflies.

Same outbreak, and your paths cross with Joe and Ellie.

That's funny because I bet a lot of people forget that Fortnite, as we know it now, was a tacked on mode.

Think this is too much hindsight 20/20. ND had a pretty good track record with online ML. uncharted 2 was great ( at least originally). TLoU fractions was awesome and something i put well over 100 hours into. Even Uncharted 4 was pretty good.

Them going for fractions 2 wasn't a bad decision. The way they planned it out seems to be but if you would have told me before TLoU2, launched there would be no MP planned, I would have been extremely bummed and still am to do this that it won't ever release.

To put it very simply, Fractions 1 >>>>>> TLoU Left behind DLC

Nah. One, we already know his story from playing through the game. Two, the "boss fight" against him as Abbie was so amazing in the game, there's no way they could replicate that when you're controlling Tommy himself. Three, do you really think it would have gotten some of the fans back who were butt hurt about Joel? The game would end with Tommy failing to complete his goal and being crippled by Abby. I think it only would have made it worse.

Four, the original Factions was amazing. One of the best MP experiences ever. A standalone MP game could have been equally amazing. That's better than some throwaway expansion type side story game you'd play through once.
