Need For Speed Most Wanted - PC Performance Thread

2880*1620 downsampled to 1920*1080 with sweetFX Ultra

Everything on max I have about 40-50fps

My computer
GPU: Asus 670 OC
CPU: Intel i5-2500k OC 4.3Ghz
Memory: 8Gb
OS: Windows 7
Doesn't look too downsampled to me :P

To reiterate for the new page: Geometry Detail is the frame rate killer, and by turning it down I hit a solid 60FPS without any noticeable change in IQ.

The game is clearly rendering a ton of out-of-view stuff, and by turning the setting down you decrease the amount of superfluous geometry being rendered.

Reflection detail kills performance for me. Geometry detail isn't nearly as much of a hit.

I've found locations where creeping forward a few feet will drop the frame rate by 10+ even though there's no new visible detail on the screen. Dropping Geometry Detail to Low instantly returns the frame rate to normal levels.

Other games have had this issue in the past, but here it's exacerbated by the game's CPU-bound limitations.

Welp, I'm no longer picking it up as of now.

Going to wait to see if they patch it, or if there's a community solution (yet again).

If nothing happens in a few months I'll just get it for the PS3. Might as well play it on the TV if I can't put my machine to use, and I'll circumvent Origin at the same time.

Well, even with it on Low, I still have to knock Reflection Detail to Medium to get 60fps at 1080p. And then the jaggies ruin everything.

YAY No HUD ( And a metric ton of downsampling )

... Not whilst driving though :(

This game looks so weird in spots, like in that second shot you've got a really nice high res tarmac texture right next to a lower res concrete one. It just makes the world look inconsistent.

Well, I just drove around for about 3 minutes at a constant 60fps with Reflection Detail at High. Maybe it's only at night? I dunno, I'll have to test it out more later.

I'm a little upset for the framerate (no chance of 60 fps@1080p with a 6950) and the AA solution but i must admit that this game can looks really good at times.

I had felt bad for avoiding the game for the time being, but now am going to wait for a patch or two before considering this one.

(read: I now have a good excuse to wait.)

Hooooooooooow

I feel ashamed for doing it this way. Basically hitting the d-pad forward / backwards for that menu to pop out, there's a split second where the HUD disappears :P

The joys of eating from the console table.

AA works with 10.10e. You can set a driver compat. with RP, and all you need is the .dll (atiumdag.dll I think) from 10.10e. scitek made this post a while ago, but the link is probably dead by now: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=27919977&postcount=4483

Just got home from work. Thanks for the explanation. And yeah, the link is dead, it's from more than a year ago and a mediafire link...they will delete everything nowadays. Tried to google for that file, but other forums are linking back to neogaf.....anyways, thanks again, I might install 10.10e just to get that .dll file.

From what I remember, you just have to unzip the driver file that you download (it'll ask if you want to create a directory after double clicking it, that's where it extracts to) and you can just pick the files out from the extracted folders. No need to install them.

I recently started Hot Pursuit and will stick with that for now, at least it runs flawlessly and with some injectors it can look really nice.

MW2 maybe on Vita, I am sure it runs better than the PC version xD

I can't receive or send friend requests in Origin. Awesome.

Multiplayer is a great time though. Everyone is out to wreck each other, even in the co-op events.

Ah of course, I have a bunch of those catalyst folders in my C drive. Thanks for reminding me. Will just do that.

I was just about to buy it, my PC is pretty good, but if people are hitting below 60FPS on the latest cards then count me out for now. Thanks GAF, i'll be following this thread though.

God damn that billboard in the park, my car is too fast and I sail right over it.

If you wish to challenge the murderous chicken man quote the post to find the GAF NFS Origin details.

Seems that I'm trying some injectors but none of them actually apply. The toggle key does nothing... I'm starting to think that the game has some kind of (bad) post-process AA applied which cannot be disabled and the other AA solutions are simply non-functional.

Best to try driver forced post-AA if you can.

I just received my new 1440p in the mail today and played some Most Wanted...I have the same general framerate at 1440p as I did at 1080p, around 40-60fps with very occasional dips into the high 30's. Same settings and everything.

I'm mystified.

To Medium or Low? Are you saying there's not much graphical difference even at Low?

Biggest hog for me, by far, is AO. Turning it off helps a lot in keeping 60 FPS for most of time.
But dem jaggies.

Have Criterion commented on this situation yet? The game is out here in two days but I'm not picking it up if its still in this state by then.

After driving around for a few hours, here's what I noticed:

- Resolution doesn't really matter much performance-wise, so downsampling is the way to go to get rid of all the jaggies
- Performance isn't any worse than in NFS:HP, there just seems to be a lot more going on in the city. If I drive a mountain section on the outskirts it really feels and performs the same as NFS:HP.
- Even though framerate only dips to the 50s or high 40s, it really feels like 20fps sometimes - I think this is the main problem, because in other games I have no problems playing at framerates above 40-50

Same, picked it up in the amazon deal along with burnout paradise

What injectors are good for that?

This is why PC gaming is exclusive to those that have way too much time on their hands.

Even with the current console gen wearing me down with lack of progress, I can never go back to PC gaming with lifes daily demands.

Bring on the next gen consoles dammit.

I'm still curious if this gets picked up by Criterion. I waited for the PC release because it would be graphically so much better than the 360 / PS3 version (jaggies galore). And it's a great game in my point of view, but i really REALLY hate the framedrops.

Turning down the geometry detail also fixed the problem for me, but the game could be run so much better with some optimization.

Wait what? That's complete bullshit. Even if you do NOTHING with the pc version it's still leagues better than the console version. It's your choice if you experiment with the settings. What you are saying makes no sense at all.

Don't be so harsh, he is right to some extent.

No, he's not. All hes doing is sticking with the inferior version from the very beginning.

Fiddling with settings to get a stable game is not an enjoyable activity for everyone. I'm not one of them, I like to tweak my games but I perfectly understand why it can be off-putting for a lot of people.

Because all console releases these days are perfect and never need patches, right? I don't think this is the place for this debate though and it can get ugly fast.
Good point. But apparently it never reaches those levels.

I'm sorry I did not mean to start a shitstorm.

I was not very interested in the game but I was curious as to how it would turn out.

Whaaat? Fiddling around with some graphics settings for 10 minutes is for "those that have way too much time on their hands"?

Yeah and you only get to wait several weeks for a patch while somebody on PC already fixed the game within days.

The game's perfectly fine without tweaking settings, better than the console versions that's for sure. Is it so bad that those options are available for the advanced users? It doesn't stop the less technical minded from simply installing and playing the game with automatic settings.
