Need For Speed Most Wanted - PC Performance Thread

Game still runs like ass for me. GTX 690 and frame rate is all over the place. That along with Radom crashing to the desktop and I am done. What a massive disappointment after the awesome Nfs HP and SHift 2 :(

back to Forza Horizon.....

Bumping because I changed that option to 0 and it's been way more stable, dropping into the mid-50s just once with Geometry Detail on High and everything else maxed. I turned it to Medium and it's been at 60 ever since.
Is that ini in the game folder or under My Games or something?

Well, it's definitely running a LOT better on my system, but fuck me dead if the game basically doesn't scale across multiple GPUs AT ALL:

argh

It runs fine for me but I turned reflections down. Setting the game to run on two cores completely destroys the framerate though, which is interesting.

Yay, 100% fixed for me. Took a log of my framerate from a few races and from driving around downtown and other parts that could make it stutter before, rock solid 60 now for me.

Also, I cranked everything up, including headlight shadows and high motion blur.

What are your specs?

I'll just quote myself from an earlier post here ;)
I have an identical setup and still get frame drops with Geometry Detail on High. I have a factory OC'd 670 that auto adjusts the clock speeds on the fly, I wonder if I set the speeds instead if it'd help.

Wow, this patch is remarkable. A true night and day difference. Even the Callahan Industries section (which was notorious for slowdown) offers a perfect 60 fps. Not a single drop in sight with settings maxed out.

I wonder if the optimizations they made to this version could apply to any of the others? Would be great if they could patch the Vita version to offer native resolution or slowdown elimination.

Started playing this today and was about to ask why everybody is complaining about performance. I see there was a patch. ;) This game looks amazing.

I must say, however, that the game feels laggier than I remember. I'm thinking it has to do with the amount of time I've put into Sonic Transformed, which is incredibly responsive, more than anything else. I was having a difficult time actually playing Most Wanted today for that reason.

I have the factory oc'd Asus DCII TOP model which is/was notorious for having too high clocks in most units which lead to lots of crashes. I ended up getting a solid one though, it boosts quite a bit over what they promised and it's stable under full load for a long time.

This game doesn't really tax the 670, max usage in the logs is 80% and average is around 60-70.

I thought the same thing, but part of it is the controls. The longer you hold a direction the larger the effect is. So you'll be holding for a small correction and your car will suddenly make a sharp turn, which makes it look like a delayed reaction. There's some kind of acceleration curve.

PC version?!?

I gave this a try for a first time yesterday since the patch. It's kind of weird seeing it running at a comfortable 60fps, something I had become convinced I would never see!

With a 5850/5970 Crossfire, i5-2500K @ 4.9GHz, 16GB DDR 3 @ 1080P and max settings, it wasn't even hitting 60fps while stationary at a quiet corner (not a lot of geometry or movement). But here's my Fraps bench (I couldn't find an official benchmark mode) anyway, from just sitting at the following corner (literally not moving, except bumping the camera so it wouldn't go into sleep mode):
ROAQVYo.jpg

2013-02-14 21:01:44 - NFS13
Frames: 5904 - Time: 120000ms - Avg: 49.200 - Min: 48 - Max: 51

Only way I can get anything close to a stable 60 is if I turn everything down to medium (this is with driving around a bit):
2013-02-14 21:05:34 - NFS13
Frames: 6989 - Time: 120000ms - Avg: 58.242 - Min: 38 - Max: 61

But thanks for your input though. I wish I'd known earlier that if it ran fine on your PC, then it must run fine on everyone's. Would've saved me the effort of this post.

Anyway, apologies for the derail, guys. I hope Criterion doesn't overhype this port like they did the PC one, seriously. The remote play thing sounds nuts.
Posted here to avoid derailing the other thread. I was going to show that it's locked at 60fps at the same exact spot on my similar machine but Fraps drops 15 frames as soon as I hit the screenshot button. Then it shoots back up to 60. I don't know what's causing that issue but maybe it's related to your problem.

Hm, sweet. I'll give that a go! Thanks :)

Edit: Just had a look, that's the same config I have at the moment (except I have motion blur at 0). No idea why it's running like it is, then... but it's definitely nowhere near a stable 60. What Catalyst version are you running?

I'm using Catalyst 13.2 Beta 5, running full screen with Crossfire enabled.

Guise.....

A 4.5go patch has been released and apparently a SSAA option has been added.

Isn't that nice ? Better late than never.

I stopped caring about this game right after release, did they fix all the performance problems at some point? Still haven't even properly played it.

They did improve it a lot, but IMO it's still not running as well as I'd like (but other people around have it running fine). I haven't tested it with this latest update though.

Scitek use nvidia inspector and force the clocks. Check this topic out if want bat files just pm and I can send them.

This has helped me a ton and it's fixed a lot of issues I was seeing on a friend's 680 during play.

I don't really understand how AA works on the PC. Is SSAA an option in the game or in the nvidia control panel? What option is SSAA? Is it better then MSAA and does it cost more performance?

The lastest update introduced a native SSAA option, it's supersampling anti aliasing and it's quite demanding, moreso than MSAA.

Nice to see the SSAA option but still no patch notes on the EA forums so I missed this new setting until I looked on this thread 8(

I'm liking the DLC a lot; drifting underneath airline jets and launching cars off ramps and jumps in and around the airport is a lot of fun. Most of the DLC the cars are great fun (not keen on the Alfa Mito or Ford ST) with the Vin Diesel Fast & the Furious Dodge being batshit insane with a few mods.

how is this compared to the PS3 version? Played that a lot but tempted to get this just for prettiness.

Do you need to be logged into the origin account that bought the game to play it? I have one origin account I bought some games on, but I have another that is tied to my PSN account, and that one will have my autolog SP points from NFS on which I should be able to reuse and unlock the most wanted races quickly.

This game is killing my machine. I have the 680 and a 3570 @4.5 and I still get drops in the 20s. It is incredibly good looking though. One of the best looking games out, easily.

A brief read-through this thread reveals those who have both PC and console versions prefer the PC version. The game looks fantastic on my PC and with the patches that have been released, I'm happy with the overall performance although some gameplay issues remain. You'll need a beefy PC to run Most Wanted at 60fps with all the options at their highest levels as SSAO and SSAA can be performance killers.

Criterion stated in an interview with games.on.net that the PC version supports a number of advanced graphical features including "SSAO, light scattering, high dynamic range motion blur, high resolution textures, advanced specular lighting models, headlight shadow casting, enhanced VFX quality, and enhanced shadow quality levels". The SSAA option was added in the last patch.

It does seem to be running a lot better than it ever has before... provided I don't touch SSAA at all and don't downsample. Fairly flat 60fps, which is a first.

I bought MW yesterday and it may have been worse before the patch but with my 2500K and 660 framerate still goes down the toilet in certain areas unless I turn most of the details down. AO had to go, headlight shadows are a huge drain and geometry details on medium. I wonder if overclocking my CPU a bit would help but it's still one of the faster ones out there. I also hate the aggressive police and blatant rubberbanding but that's for another thread.

Same for me.

I downloaded the patch to see, but pretty or not, I still feel like this could have been optimized better. It's the only game I've played on my PC now that I could not max settings and get at least a steady 45 fps, if not 60+.

And the occasional stutter or <30fps dip sucks too when you're in the middle of a heated race.

Lastly, and no patch is going to fix this, I'm still very bummed about the lack of camera angles. More specifically cockpit view.

Anyone still playing Most Wanted? I scanned the EA forums to see if further patches were coming and it appears EA and Crierion have work to do to get the game in a functioning state.

A list of known and common issues: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Need-for-S...ommon-issues-Updated-03-15/m-p/373688#U373688

Nice of EA to sell DLC packs knowing players are having in-game issues with the DLC not appearing. First reports of the issue appear in March and the problem still exists as no fixes have been released. Edit: the disappearing DLC issue happens across ALL platforms.

What are the remaining issues? I can't see them because I'm at work... but I'm not surprised they're still there. Seems to be a recurring thing this gen, releasing DLC or even working on a new game whilst there are still MAJOR issues with the current/vanilla release (hello Saint's Row 3, F1 2010/2011/2012). Not surprised EA/Criterion do it as well... shame, because Criterion nailed their Burnout Paradise release (Island DLC absence notwithstanding).

You need to find a more liberal minded place of employment 8)

Issues:
DLC packs not showing up (Terminal Velocity, Movies, NFS Heroes)
Cannot unlock Mods - RAM - Porsche Panamera Turbo S
License Plates not unlocking - License plate resets
[xbox 360] - Sound issues/audio cuts out
Game stops/crashes - cutscenes

Known issues:
Motorhead glitch
Error code b0001/ Error Code B0001
Ultimate Speed Pack not showing up (PC)
Autolog constantly disconnecting
Game crashes after partial online Speed List completion (PS3) / Concours mode crash
Speed Points rising up when I'm not playing NFS
Invalid code
Can't unlock any mods on Marussia B2
Pagani Zonda R gearbox bug

Common Issues:
[PC] Stuck on loading screen
Need for Speed: Most Wanted - Xbox 360 update error

One needs to remember that many of these issues date back to last year and are yet to be fixed. I love Most Wanted but the lack of customer care from EA and/or Criterion means that I'll be very reluctant to buy another game from either party in the future.

Is there anything I can do to run this game @ 60 fps with reflections on high?

i5 2500k / 7950 / 8gb ram - (all stock)

Most of the time it runs at 60 but in Callahan Industrial with reflections on high it dips to 25-30fps and then shoots back to 60, and just keeps repeating that. Very annoying.

Everything turned up except AO on medium and Geometry Detail on medium. Super Sampling off as well.

I should say that reflections on medium it's 60 fps in the Industrial section. But dem reflections are so cool, even though it hasn't been raining. Reflections on medium completely rids of the road of it's random watery reflections.

Reading back through this thread indicates headlight shadows & AO are performance killers - turning both off may help the framerate as neither do a lot to add to the graphics.

Funny thing is Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted are running on the same Chameleon engine albeit with Most Wanted is using a modified version. Hot Pursuit runs at 60fps on really modest hardware (and remains at 60fps with anti-aliasing applied through programs such as Nvidia Inspector too) whlist Most Wanted couldn't run anywhere near 60fps on a GTX 690 or 7990 prior to patches being released and both cards still struggle now to do so. Reading through the EA forums is depressing as so many people have unresolved issues and I doubt EA give a shit.

I had massive problems getting a decent framerate out of Hot Pursuit. I'd just like to know what happened to Criterion since Burnout Paradise and the NFS games, because that ran beautifully on my machine.

I had issues with Most Wanted when I unlocked the 30fps option prior to the last patches; now I run with everything set to maximum and MW runs fine, mostly between 45-60fps even with 2 x Supersampling enabled. I could drop back to 30fps and run with 4 x Supersampling but prefer the smoothness of 60fps.

Shaneus, don't you run a ATi crossfireX set-up? What's the support like from AMD? I'm oblivious being an Nvidia user since the GeForce 4 series GPU's and their SLI support for the most part has been excellent. Nvidia claimed in their forums that MW is a CPU bound game and performance issues are a result of Criterion's coding of their game and not poor GPU drivers. Seeing both ATi and Nvidia users have similar frame rate issues (and the console versions have their own fame rate issues too), I'd believe Nvidia's claims are true.

I actually installed Hot Pursuit after a lengthy MW play the other day. HP ran smooth as butter. Granted it looks much worse than MW. For me, it's just all about reflections on high. AO and headlight shadows don't affect me much if at all. It's weird that even the consoles have better reflection settings than medium. Medium reflections is awful.
