Need for Speed: Most Wanted Wii U Demo!Dat EA support.[Alex Ward of Criterion Games]

Sounds promising but I always end up not playing my NFS games. I have two on Steam and one for the 360 and barely played them lol

If none of them is developed by Criterion, that's totally fine. Otherwise:

Ha! Yeah we'll I'm sure digital foundry will write an article saying the port is nothing special and all that was just PR talk.

typical as that would be this game is almost certainly the game DF think outclasses last gen in the article they're putting up today or tomorrow

But Gaf told me Wii U RAM didn't matter in real world games because it was slow bandwidth????

Seeing Criterion make a system sing, doesn't mean that it doesn't have problems, or that lesser developers can do the same thing. They're pretty great at working within (and around) a systems bottlenecks. Consider, for example, that they were one of the first devs to put out a multiplatform game on PS3 and 360 where the two versions were almost identical in looks and performance.

Hopefully you don't need to be a Criterion level of talent to demonstrate the Wii U's technical advantage over the other consoles, but there should be no real argument any more that the Wii U doesn't have a technical advantage. It's just a small one, and it takes some specific work to demonstrate it.

When a console represents a generational leap in power, it doesn't take coding skill to demonstrate that it's more powerful than preceding systems.

None of this should be surprising to anyone who was paying attention in the build up to the systems release, but what are you going to do. That launch ports were almost at parity in many cases (and a bit better in a few rare cases) was a good sign for the system. That Criterion have now shown it can run a big budget late generation port at higher fidelity seals it.

The Wii U is more powerful overall. A bit. Enough that you can look at Most Wanted U and tell that it looks better, but not so much you look at it and go 'WOW!'.

Digital Foundry call out the good ports when they see them. CF: Trine 2 and Sonic and Sega All Stars Transformed (which had some advantages and some disadvantages, but which DF overall favored on Wii U).

frame rate seems to be solid as well. well Criterion has always been good when it comes to the technical stuff so good for WiiU owners who still have not played it.

Alex Ward got a lot of hate when Burnout Paradise's demo came out. He got all emotional and lashed out at the Nintendo fans who haven't played his game since Burnout 2.

Well.. that was dumb but this is how you win people back. UK's most consistent dev probably.

I just hope the framerate is stable. The 360 version drops a lot for me, especially at road blocks. It might be because of my aging 360 though.

The PS3 version actually runs better than the 360 one. I didn#t watch the whole video but it looked solid ont he WiiU.

It's good to see Criterion is putting in a good effort when one takes into account that this is a 6 month port job. Hopefully, it won't hurt the performance of the Wii U version much.

Actually, DF already responded to a guy from the B3D thread, that they had an article about to release about a current gen state of the art game, that was clearly superior on WiiU... very likely this is Burn... errr Need for Speed.

you obviously weren't listening to Gaf though as Gaf also said the ram bandwidth wasnt as bad as it looked and was pretty irrelevant

I think that's what he meant and was being sarcastic about the abundance of trolls claiming otherwise.

I think your memory may be a bit clouded. As with many others.
After taking a look at nine Xbox 360 launch games and comparing them side by side against their Xbox counterparts, it's clear that we can't automatically assume that the Xbox 360 version of a game will be significantly better than the Xbox version, especially if you don't have an HDTV.

Or would you judge the 360 being only slightly more powerfull than the original xbox based on it's own launch ports?

I wish I'd like racing games... I'd buy it on day one, but I don't like them, at all.

When launch game looks as good as late ps360 games that alone should tell you its more powerfull, but I dont think anyone has claimed its a "generational leap" in power, exept if you are comparing it to the Wii.

i did realise that, 'twas a jokey sounding response to sarcasm

Don't forget the load times and maybe the online population.

Load times should be much better since the moment the blu-ray reader of the Wii U is around 2,5 times faster than the 360. Online population, I won't discuss that but if people start talking good about the game in Miiverse, it won't take long to get to healthy levels.

Criterion doing it right! hells yea

just hope the online community will be fairly healthy, but I feel like it will be. Miiverse will play no small part in making that happen

seriously... stop holding onto this hope that the Wii U represents a major upgrade in power. most of the games in that link look substantially better. a handful only look substantially better if played on an HDTV. I don't see why we'd only compare them at 480p in this day and age. Gun looks notably better on 360 than Xbox. As does the NHL title.

they all look substantially better. none of them look and run worse as some of the Wii U launch ports did. My memory isn't clouded. The Wii U is more powerful, but it doesn't represent a generational increase in power. It's launch ports are a lot less impressive than the 360s as a result.

That article only really backs up what I said.

But, anyway, I am glad that Criterion have given us a game that will let us shut up some of the people still trying to claim that the Wii U isn't more powerful, or that the bad launch ports conveyed anything about what the system was capable of.

Probably because the few that looked different and improved had some effort behind them? Others just looked the same - like 360 -> wiiu ports.
only if you ignore the massive increase in resolution. The 360 -> Wii U ports we got at launch did not demonstrate any real increase in resolution.

Why is Criterion the only developer that ported a game from the PC VERSION ???
Or were there more 3rd party developers that did that for example mass effect 3 ?

Is this game casual friendly? I'm going to get it, but I want my girlfriend to be able to have fun with it, and her gaming experience is limited to NSMBU and Wii Sports.

Given the effort that most devs put into their PC version, there's nothing significant there to port anywhere.

The most 360 launch ports looked tremdously better than their XBox counterparts.

Only 2 games at 360 launch impressed man, it was Kameo and PGR4, everything else definitely didn't look tremendously better than previous Xbox late gen games. A resolution bump may be spoiling something for you though.

I know Trine 2 was also ported from the PC version, which just so happens to be one of the other games that shows clear graphical advantages over the PS3 and 360 versions.
