I'd never heard of this guy until about 4 months ago. Now he's everywhere - what happened with him?!

The show Cosmos premiered in that timeframe. However, he has been rising in popularity among non-science people for the last couple of years. He's pretty much the only one taking up the mantle of Carl Saga or David Suzuki in making science appealing/comprehensible to general audiences.

He's not a Roger Ebert, so let's cut the man some slack.

That doesn't make his list any worse or Ebert's any better.

Guess i'll check out Gattica. But it is lower budget than Island, I dont thing he was trashing it.
