I got my order in for a wack of buttons, octo gate, and a joystick bat top over at Akihabarashop.jp. I'm now ready for July when NCS is getting a batch of HORI Real Arcade Pro.EX

Eh, I have a question. I found a Hori Fighting Stick for the Saturn at good Will for $3, is there any way I can make it usable on a system I own, like my Gamecube, PS2, 360?

Alright, I'll look into that more later in the week when I have some more free time.

One more question, anyone think its possible for me to somehow map the turbo switches to buttons? Something tells me it can't be, or that you may need to see the insides to be certain, but here are a few pictures I took:

Would like to map something to the Center button, Start and Select, but I don't want to use one of the main 8 buttons to do it, and only have the one start button.

Late reply, but I just saw this:

Any thoughts on the Mad Catz TE Stick vs. the Hori Arcade Pro 3 stick for PS3?

The major benefit for the former is that I can trade games towards it (and I have a lot I'm no longer playing). Of course it is pretty much impossible to find either.

I've probably spent more time with the HRAP3. The TE has a lower profile, better turbo, the usb compartment, easier to swap out artwork, the wires are easier to identify (because they're sort of labeled). They perform the same, imo. Get whichever will be cheaper. They both can be modified for cross platform play. I believe Akuma001 had modded HRAPs in the past for cross platform play.

Also, the HRAPs never get any quality control complaints. I have two Amazon HRAP3s and the EX and EX SE and they all worked well out of the box.

Unless you're good with a solder, stay away from the newer Hori joysticks.

I'll take pictures. Give me a minute.

Thanks. I probably should have mentioned that I'm not going to mod it. I just want a quality stick that works on my PS3 and PS2 2D fighters (all played on a 80gb PS3). No messing around.

BTW, out of the box, the TE comes with all Sanwa parts, whereas the Hori comes with a Sanwa stick but Hori buttons. The Hori buttons aren't abysmal, but I'd much prefer arcade quality parts.

The main advantage of the Hori is it supports backward compatibility and the quality control. The price of a HRAP3 (pre SFIV) was much cheaper. $99 vs. $150 (for the TE).

The TE has all Sanwa buttons and a stick, has better turbo features, the USB compartment and a better modding factor. There's no BC, and it's more expensive.

If you buy the HRAP3, get new buttons. If you buy the TE, you can't play PS2 games.

You're shitting me. You can't play PS2 games on the PS3 with the TE?

Correct. You can't.

HRAP3s did not work originally until a firmware update. 1.7 or 1.8 I think.

TE backwards compatibility on PS3 would require Sony to issue a similar fix in a future firmware update.

However, the stick you're planning to mod looks like it has the same mounting plate as the one that already has an LS-32 in it. You could always just measure the distances between screw holes to make sure it fits, or just take the LS-32 out of your EX-SE temporarily to try it out. Don't be like me and buy an LS-56, only to realize afterward that the TE "universal mounting plate" isn't as universal as advertised :(
Haha, I realized the same thing when I tried to mount my LS-56 into my TE. A drill and 30 minutes later fixed the job though. :lol

But in all honesty, I love the 56 much better than the 32.

I've come up with a Mushi Futari template for my 360 TE (I'm putting SFIV Balrog on my PS3 TE). The original image for the background is 1280X960, will this look really bad when printed?

Finally got my hands on a 360 TE, and it's pretty nice, but doesn't surpass the quality or feel of the VSHG IMO, it's still in a class of its own in workmanship, I like the TE's moddability, cord compartment, and cord length, but I'm not putting the black and gray god stick away any time soon.

Any thoughts on carrying case/bag for VSHG, while we're at it?

Got my TE at work today, brought it home, and WOW what a difference this thing makes. Makes pulling off moves effortless. It was so frustrating playing online with my EX2. I went on my first ten win streak as soon as I plugged the TE in. I highly recommend this stick, do not settle for an EX2. Only bad thing was that there was some sticky glue residue left by some tape that had been on the top. Tried scrubbing it off, and ended up with some scuff marks. Really bothers me when looking at it, but oh well, I'm not gonna be looking at the stick when I'm playing. Good job Markman, my hat is off to you.
Same thing happened when my TE came in the other day. Use some rubbing alcohol on the glue marks and that should do the trick.

Whoa dementia, I have that same bag!

Any JGAFfers know some good places in Japan where I could find a stick (or a good fight controller) for X360? Or any good Japanese internet shops?

You could probably order straight from hori-store.com right? They don't always have stock, but whenever a new batch of HRAPEXs or whatever turns up, they appear there first.

Does anyone here have experience with building a stick from near scratch? I am thinking about getting a Toodles Cthulhu PC/PS3 Board, Sanwa stick, and 8 buttons from lizard lick amusements and am wondering what else I would need [aside from a box ;)] to get running? I am guessing I would need 2 wires and quick connectors per button and that the wiring harness for the joystick would go into the cthulhu no prob?

I posted this on SRK regarding my MadCatz SF4 SE but thought I'd try my luck here as well:

I'm having a weird version of the "stuck joystick" problem, and I'm wondering if anyone can relate. My stick broke (left wouldn't work) so I contacted MadCatz. They sent me a new stick saying I could replace it myself. I did, and the new one works.

EXCEPT that all directions get stuck for maybe 0,25 seconds (=my character walks/ducks for about 0,25 seconds more after I release the stick) whenever I push the joystick in that direction for about 0,5 seconds and then release. Only then. If I quickly tap the joystick in any direction and then release, my character stops immediately. If I push the joystick for about 1 second or longer and then release, my character stops immediately. It's only when I push the joystick for almost exactly 0,5 seconds that the direction "sticks" for a little while.

It's really annoying to have this issue on my replacement joystick, so I'm wondering what you guys think I should do. Is it faulty, and is it the washer problem? It seems weird that the joystick only gets "stuck" when I push it for a specific amount of time.

Ledsen, do you have it set to d-pad or left stick?

:O

It was set on LS, I must have accidentally changed it while I was working on the stick. I changed it back and now it works flawlessly. Guess I'll have to e-mail MadCatz and tell them to ignore my last mail :lol
Thanks a million, now I can play again! :D

NP, happy to help and I'm glad it was an easy fix. Many people overlook that.

Can anybody tell me if the TE works with the PS2 Slim?

I need to know for tourney directing purposes. If someone wants to play Guilty Gear Accent Core or Third Strike I'd like to be able to use my TE.

Has there been any indication from Sony if/when this would be coming?

I'm in between on buying and not buying an Agetec Dreamcast stick in the next two hours for my Mars Matrix game.

Yay or Nay on this stick?

great Hori stick, better modded. ive got 2 and i love em.

default, theyre about the same as a Hori EX from what i remember.

you own Under Defeat yet? :o

So is Hori HRAP 3 the cheapest best stick you can buy out of the box? $99 dollars is still pricey
Out of the box yeah.

Unless you can invent a time machine and go back in time to pick up a VSHG when they were new for like 6800 yen / $70 USD

i like the form factor of it, not sure how good the stock parts are as i didnt play with it for years before modding it with a sixaxis for sfiv, getting the JLF in was a bit of a pain.

Ok, I just bought one. Seemed extremely clean and it was $97 delivered. I'm sure I overpaid by $30 but this guy's auctions were all very nice sticks and and things like immaculate DC Twin Stick controllers so I'm hoping he was a collector.

I guess the other option was to use one of my many HRAPS with a converter but that seemed more trouble.

Man it seems like getting any arcade stick in Canada is impossible. I'm just trolling around Craigslist hoping for an over priced one that is not too over priced.

I happen to have some good parts and I want one to mod so I'm wanting to buy a Madcatz SE or PS3 Hori anything but in Canada there's nooooooothing.

:(

Eh. If someone's reading G4 to make their stick buying decisions, they're probably best off with the cheapest stick possible anyway. Odds are they won't have the patience to adjust to a stick as it is, and at $130+ for a good stick, that leaves them out a lotta cash for a performance and reliability boost that they likely will never notice.
