Just revealed on Spike's CES coverage, Mad Catz new SFxT VS Sticks!

You can combine two of them together to form one long panel that mirrors the control panel of a japanese cabinet. Very cool!

MSRP: $199.99 for one stick.

More info here: http://www.madcatz.com/ces/2012/

I really like the size and shape of the VS stick BUT there is a couple of things that I would like to have been done differently. First maybe have a non glossy version of the stick, it looks like it is shiny plastic casing not metal, same case in matte black metal like the VSHG would be amazing!

Second have the top with removable screws and the art under nice thick plexi like what Art has at his store.

Also have the USB screw in like the new MLG controllers, that would be fantastic.

As for the fightpads, maybe next go around having the dpad covered in matte rubber instead of glossy plastic, so it gives better grip and ALL the input buttons (dpad, face buttons, shoulder buttons) have mechanical buttons, NOW that would be NICE :)

Just shooting some ideas out there Mark, I have to say you really have turned around Madcatz , really happy you did!!

I'm about to embark on a Seimitsu custom stick project for 360 since the Hori EX SE ones are too damn expensive now. I've heard recommendations to mod a madcats SE fightstick, but seems even those are pretty pricey right now.

What is my best option for this? I'm looking at the WWE Brawl stick for 64 bucks on Amazon, is this my best/cheapest bet right now?

Oh and it seems this stick is not compatible with PC?

It's PC compatible.

Yeah the brawl stick should work. I don't think it uses the 5-pin connector that the SF4 SE stick uses though, so if you're thinking about replacing the lever with a Seimitsu LS-32-01, get the regular LS-32 instead.

I also thought it would have been a lot classier if it was matte black like the VSHG too, but I figured I'd just powdercoat it myself, but it turns out that the exterior of the case is plastic.

Mentioned 4min in that the exterior is plastic...

It does, you just have to flip it around. I put an LS-40-01 in mine.

If you could find a used Original SE (not brawlstick) for cheap that would be your best bet since you are modding it anyways.

So my dual modded SSF4 SE stick keeps randomly disconnecting on me, which apparently is a sign that it's dying :(

I wanted a Qanba Q4RAF but the standard editions are out of stock and FocusAttack is saying they won't get another shipment until March. I don't think I can wait that long.

I am eyeing the EightArc Fusion but fuck $185 is a hell of a lot for an arcade stick

There really isn't any other alternative as far as dual-compatible joysticks go right

I think I prefer the build of the EightArc, but I do like how the Omni appears to have easy to swap buttons like the Madcatz SE/TE. Does anyone know if the EightArc is like that too? I might swap the Sanwa buttons for the Seimitsu PS-15s I got for my SE.

Also, as someone who only has experience with Sanwa and Seimitsu, I am kind of curious about the Omni Korean Edition. How do Crown buttons compare to Sanwa and Seimitsu?

Here are the internals of the Qanba Q4RAF.

Since they're closely related designs and I haven't heard otherwise, I can only assume the Eightarc is very similar and uses standard 30mm OBSF snap-in buttons.

Just ordered my Soul Calibur V MC stick from Buy. 2nd day shipping was just $5! Kinda blew me away with that.

Anyway, is the ChimpSMD still the easiest solderless way to dual-mod a 360 stick? I did a Femme Fatale with one like a year ago and haven't kept up on which new boards have come out since.

And MarkMan, I don't mean to keep hounding, I know you're busy, but I still want to talk with you about MGC 12's SFxT tourneys. I'll even be cool with a "sorry, we're not interested/can't help" message over nothing. Hit me when you get a moment. Thanks!

AFAIK The SCV Madcatz sticks have not been confirmed to be identical to the older sticks so I'd wait for Toodles to confirm that the Kitty will work. Just watch the Kitty thread in Tech Talk on SRK.

Just looked over the TE Kitty installation instructions and I don't think I like it. I'm not a fan of removing the select button from your stick and putting a jack in its place. I think I'd rather strip wires again with the ChimpSMD.

Oh heavenly blessed beauty...

Edges too pointy/10

My last TE was the R1 which I dualmodded and sold a while ago. So this is pretty refreshing.

Just got my package. Feast upon it! I don't have my tools to open this at the moment so no insides. But it should be pretty standard stuff for the most part.

Btw as of this post, there's about 1-2 more left to order on Amazon.com before they restock later.

Good stick. I purchased this for a few reasons:
  • The design is good, I will likely mod the look of it and the translucent body design will assist greatly.
  • Compact, I had the R1 TE which was nice but this is nicer.
  • Stainless steel screws; my R1 TE's screws rusted a bit overtime due to perspiration over the last 2.5 years.
  • NEW BUTTON LAYOUT! I can't remember the last time I played on a cab with this layout. this is refreshing as I am a tall guy with wide shoulders. I'll be bending my wrist a lot less while using this so physically this is good.
  • Lighter than my VLX so I can carry this to local gatherings easier lol

It's an optional step, and the kitty remaps the back/select functionality to the turbo button so it acts as both. But again just to repeat the rj-45 jack is optional, it's just there for multi console support. If all you care about is PC/PS3/360 then skip it. Also it's possible to drill another 24mm hole to the left of the start button and move the buttons and jack around. I've done this on both of my TEs that have MC support.

EDIT: Also, if you're not going to use the MC support you might as well just get a TEasy Strike (S), quicker install than the Kitty to be sure. That said, I don't think it's confirmed if that works on the SCV stick yet either so again, check phreakazoid's TT thread.

Bad news. The Quanba/EightArc sticks use a metal panel overlaid with thick plexiglass. The Seimitsu PS-15's are too shallow to fit through the plexi, and don't clip into place. The regular depth snap-in buttons do fit just right, so you'll need some OBSF-30's or PS-14's. Sucks :(

How do those translucent sanwas feel? Are they any different from the regular opaque ones?

Yes, sadly (at least in my experience, I haven't read anyone else's thoughts on it). I put 8 in my Chun stick a while back and they are noticeably stiffer than the regular ones but not as much as Seimitsus. It's far past the "breaking in" period too. I'm not really a fan of it and I've been considering tossing the old buttons back in.

Wow that was a helpful post. Thanks for the tips! I guess I shouldn't have skimmed that Kitty PDF so fast.

I've heard of the TEasy before, just never put one in. Maybe I'll give that a closer look too.

Thanks again!

Cool, and it only took Mad Catz what... 3 years to fix this?

Mine turned to pure rust immediately and the upper metal plate too, had to replace it with an acrylic top (not just a cover, a thick acrylic replacement for the actual metal plate)

I use a hori v3 sa now. No screws on the top and no cheap metal = no rust.

Yeah, you could already replace it with better ones from the hardware store I think. Took them too long to alleviate that problem.

Hm okay thanks for letting me know, that's unfortunate but not the biggest deal. My bright green buttons would probably look ugly on the EightArc anyway, so I wouldn't be against getting new buttons. I'm just glad it uses snap-ins so I don't have to do any soldering :)

Huh? The VSHG case is plastic too. I have one.

Huh?? I know the VSHG is plastic. I have one too. My only point is that there's some mis-information about what's plastic on this new Madcatz VS stick and I was was just trying to post some clarification. I thought the entire exterior was metal and able to be powder coated to match the VSHG since I'm not a huge fan of glossy gadgets.

I eagerly await further clarification from Markman.

I cant wait for more info too from Markman, i had a vshg, i really thought the frame was
Metal???

I'm writing a full spec sheet on the new fighting game products we unveiled at CES. It'll be ready by the end of this week.

I'll go over everything.

ALSO! The products will be out around (or a little before) Street Fighter X Tekken's launch date (March 6th).

If anyone has any questions, post em' here so I can go over it later.

Also hi Kadey.

The VSHG shell is plastic guys. The top plate and bottom plates however, are metal and there is some kind of metal frame inside for stability/weightiness.

Damn, that is some high quality plastic then. The weight/structure/solidness felt like metal.

Wow, agreed! Im shocked it was plastic!

Markman, can the outside frame of the vs stick be removed and replaced with different color ones etc? Maybe plastic like what was on the vshg :p
