http://akihabarashop.jp/ for parts

and try http://www.norrisarcadesticks.com/ next sunday (the 8th) to snag a case.

I believe Chad has another Cthulhu order coming in any day now.

Enjoyed putting mine together as much as I enjoy playing with it.
getting a case from norris is liek catching lighting in a bottle:lol i was lucky to snag a premium on their last restock but you have to be extremelyy quick. its well worth it though, the build quality cannot be matched.

not sure it's Sanwa...
those start and back buttons are a dead giveaway

I think it's just like the HRAP, JLF, just judging by the shaft cover (Hori levers usually do without, right) and Hori buttons. It would be neat if here was an LS-32 in there instad of a JLF.

You may be right. But they used only Sanwa buttons on the face buttons for the Oto stick and stock buttons for the start and select. Also, those are all grey so it looks like stock.

i was wondering if the HRAP3 was compatible with the PS2 console? I know its BC-able, but i heard that playing ps2 games on the ps3 creates a LITTLE lag when coming into a HDTV

Nice! Which one did you get? I am hoping they have some of the darker colored woods next go around. I want to get a finkle case, but it has been like 2, or 3 months and he hasn't responded to any of my emails or pms so I think I'll just get another Norris.

edit: Did you get the case already? How do you like it? I couldn't believe how nice they look in person. Looks much more expensive than it is. You should post some pictures...if you haven't.

HRAP2 SA or Amazon edition work...and you can always get a PS2 to USB convertor like Inpin...

It's still a good stick, much better than any other stock stick out there under 100 bucks. I mean I did Balrogs c.lp x2, c.lk, ex dash upper, c.lp, c.lk, ex dash upper, c.lp, c.lk, buffalo headbutt into ultra on it last night on it if that's any indication. :lol

Best review so far :D

MarkMan, I require your assistance!

So I was posting on SRK regarding installing an LS-32-01 into a TE stick. There are conflicting posts so I thought I would see if you could clarify my thoughts:

1) The LS-32-01 is preferred over the LS-32 as the -01 uses a 5-pin connector, as does the TE. Because both the TE and the -01 use a 5-pin connector, no soldering is required to swap the JLF for the LS-32.

2) The TE mounting plate compatible with the LS-32-01, and can be installed in a similar fashion as the HRAP2 (as per this FAQ http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=132472)

many, many thanks.

I see, I had no idea the Otomedius stick had some Sanwa components

Playing PS2 games on a PS3 creates lag even if you use analog output and 480i. Since 99% of the HDTVs out there create at least 2 frames of lag, the combined lag can really throw you off.

i was a big arcade SF2 player back in the day but haven't really used a stick much for any latter systems. I bought the 15th anniv nubystick, tekken one and had the DOA4 one for a bit. Never had anything really stable for putting on my lap. Do i really need a nice table setup for stick play? What do y'all think? I've been trying to get back into SF lately...

Can someone please inquire with japan video games and ask them who their distributor is?

To quote "Kenny" from JapanVideoGames:

"I’m waiting for final quantities from madcatz, probably within a week. I won’t charge your card until the item is in stock and ready to ship. If madcatz does cut my quantity and we aren’t able to fulfill the pre-order, we will contact you for next options, hope this helps, thanks!"

BTW, if anyone preordered the Street Fighter 4 Tourney Stick from VideoGameCentral.com, they are legit.

I had a meeting over on Cross Bay Blvd in Queens (right where I got married too) where they are located and I stopped in for a chat. They are really cool. Its a private game and hobby store. Nice to see as i hate big box and Gamestop. They have lots of nice stuff in there, import as well.

I told them my name and they instantly checked my order and said I was definitely getting it on launch - they even offered for me to pick it up and save on shipping and get it sooner.

My guess is the mob gets a piece of the action as well as Howard Beach has been Gotti - Gambino territory for 30 years.

Bummer as they are now out of their initial shipment. They are still taking preorders, but they are not shipping until April.

Just wanted to let you all know.

Like I said, VGC is most likely going through a distributor and not directly at Mad Catz. Unless they go by another business name I could not find anything being sent to them.

Whoever the distributor is for them, I hope they got enough sticks. Cuz Mad Catz sure doesn't lol.

I asked VGC several times who they were dealing with, no answer.

I trust these guys. To offer me in store pickup when I told them I drove 20 minutes there makes me believe they are getting the sticks on launch.

I just placed an order for a Seimitsu LS-32 stick over at Lizard Lick. I want to swap it with the Sanwa stick in my HRAP2SA, which I use pretty much exclusively to play shmups on. I hope it works as well as I've heard. I'm leaving the buttons as Sanwa for now, but I may swap those out at some future time.

I own 3 HRAPs with a fourth on its way. Yikes. My wife thinks I only have two - I was playing on the all-white HRAP3 recently, and my wife said - "Hey, weren't those buttons blue before...?" (My HRAP2SA is) I said, "yes honey - they were, but I switched them for a new color, as I wanted a change." This of course is not true. I have to be more careful, I may switch all my buttons to the same 2 colors so she thinks I only have 2 sticks again. If she found out I spent $800 on 4 sticks an uncomfortable evening is in my future. :P

I also told her each stick was only $100.

(Did you not read my post on where they are located and who they probably run their shit through?)

Oh, I read your post alright, why do you think I replied about it?

In any case, keep us updated on your experience.

I put in my info because like I said, we don't have a VGC in the database. So just warning people just in case. More than likely launch allocations won't be fulfilled there.

MarkMan, do YOU perhaps have any info on JapanVideoGames? I know they're reputable but when it comes to this stick... and you say MadCatz doesn't have enough sticks to meet demands..

..makes me wonder if I'm gonna end up getting canceled over there D:

Hey MarkMan. You wouldn't happen to know the dimension of the SFIV Regular edition fight stick when it's in the box would you?

Are you asking about the dimensions of the box itself? It's about 14" x 10.25" x 6".

good review even tho i'm not buying the SE. i really like that you tried other types of games with it. was it really that bad for games like Pac-Man CE? but i'm glad that other XBLA games fared better. good stuff.

The problem is - and again, this isn't just a problem with the FightStick - is that for a game like Pac-man, what I understand is that you need something to negate the diagonals. If I'm going up, and I need to quickly go right, to movement between the two could then for a moment either trigger right, or it could continue to trigger up, because you're hitting that spot where it's registering the diagonal. Because of that, it seems that unless I get a stick and specifically mod it with a 4-way gate (or whatever the proper term is), joysticks period are going to be useless to me for CE.

I do, however, now have this other 360 stick that has been rendered useless by the superior FightStick. Maybe I'll see if I can hack that into a "classic games" stick.

Jesus...I guess he would know. :D

Like I said, they were very nice, not shady at all.

I checked their website stats and they've taken over 70000 different online orders (not for the sticks) I doubt theyll try and steal money from people as there is CC protection.

They did bill me for the item, which is odd, but I know Yahoo Stores (which I run) requires you to run the charge within 30 days before they delete the information and you can't bill them anymore. Interest rates are so low now that holding money in an account for 3 weeks isnt going to net them much money to go along with the headache if they are not getting them in. I doubt they've want to lose their retail store in all of this either.

We'll see and Ill post if I get any updates.

Thanks

Pretty much :lol. I really meant to ask also what the weight was too with the stick and box. I plan to ship out the Regular stick to a friend and needed to find out the cheapest/safest way to go.

thanks!

Shidoshi: Thank you for the review. I hope it didn't take too long for you guys to receive the sticks/pad, I tried to pack and ship them out asap.

Yup, once things got worked out, they got to us super fast. Our magazine coverage for all three of the products is going to be in our March '09 issue.

Now I just need to steal the TE from Heather for a bit so that I can actually test it out. Or, actually, maybe that'd be a bad idea, because I then might decide I need one for myself when I have other bills I should be paying with that money. *heh*

If your stick is a Sanwa JLF with the standard square gate, the inner ring lets you turns 45 degrees and lock to form a diamond.

square = 8=way, diamond = 4 way

It is definitely possible to install a Sanwa stick with a 4-way/8-way restrictor plate (you loosen screws, rotate it 45 degrees, and tighten it back up).

I am trying to find out if the stock installed stick can take such a restrictor plate.

I must be dumb, or blind, or both. I don't see it. It used to be on the front page, now there's a million categories and I can't see it. I push ctrl+f and enter "tech" and it's not on the front page anymore.

Whoops, I was thinking about a different brand of stick where you loosen the screws and rotate it. Something a friend used in a MAME cab.
You might be thinking of the Sanwa JLW.

I think that looks hideous, hate the lights. The art on that stick looks especially amateurish - paper cutouts?

I've seen a lot of people post pictures of sticks they have made, and so many of them look they were cobbled together by an amputee or something (though that one isn't the worst I've seen). I don't want to discourage any youngsters from doing a fun custom mod job on your own stick, as you can learn a lot by doing that, and I'm sure it's a great deal of fun, but get ready for a critical drubbing if you post pictures of your amateur mod job on the internet.

Half the pics I've seen online have some horribly cut acrylic tops that look they were shaped by a blind man, not to mention some horrific paint jobs, with paint bleeding over lines and other building faux pas, and art on paper that wasn't even cut cleanly. I just want to shake my head and sigh. There should be a custom stick hall of shame.

edit: here's some gems I found:

I hope you understand I was being sarcastic when I referred to those as "gems" :P Unless you're being equally snarky yourself, at which point disregard my post here.

This is a really classy looking mod I found on Shoryuken - love the colors and professional paint job:
