I did slap art on my EX2 mod, but it's tasteful atleast:

Is that just a sticker put onto what was already on the EX2, or did you use some other method to better protect the art from wear? I ask because I'm wondering what options one is going to have for changing the art on the standard FightStick.

And yeah, man, some of those mods are just BRUTAL. The whole "let's paint the base" thing is just such a bad idea. I don't have any joystick mods of my own to show off, but I did make this one time for somebody who was trying to put together art for their own stick. (They didn't end up using it.)

nah, dude those sticks (furry? gambit? really?) are hideous. though _dementia's is one of the cleanest anime-inspired sticks i've seen. love the clear-blue buttons <3

if anyone with photoshop wants to help me create a black/white piece for my TE stick when the template comes out please letme know... i will be more than happy to paypal you some bucks for your work. what i have in mind is a very clean, simple design so i don't think it would be too hard if you have the photoshop skills...

I don't know why anyone would paint the base of the EX2 unless they really knew what they were doing.

Game inspired, actually.

I guess this question fits better here than in the SF4 thread:

How much would it cost to import new buttons and maybe a new joystick to Europe, for the SF4 SE stick? I read that you can replace the buttons by simply popping the old ones out and putting new ones in, but is it as easy to replace the stick?

Where in Europe? SRK's stickied thread has links to stores located in UK, France, and Germany for parts, so check there.

Sweden, but I guess at least some of those stores will ship to other parts of Europe, thanks for the link! Basically what I'm wondering is if it's worth it to buy the SE stick and mod it with new buttons (and maybe a new stick). My options are to

a) buy an SE and mod it
b) buy an SE and keep it unmodded or
c) buy a TE (don't really want to spend all that money at once, I have a preorder but will probably cancel)

The SE is 85 euro and the TE is 150 euro. I'm also an SF newbie so I won't be FADCing into Ultra anytime soon, if that helps :P

huh, look at that. still, _dementia's good peoples and that stick is still clean.

my art (once someone helps me realize it) will only be three colors (to match the white/black/dark red of the TE)

plain black background

tiny dark red arrows in the 8 directions around the stick
tiny dark red lettering next to the buttons (jab / strong / fierce / etc)

white 'j' with crossbones underneath it (see: my username)

i honestly think you'd do great with an unmodded SE... and come back to us if there is something about it you don't like (less responsive buttons than you would like, square gate, too loose of astick, etc) and we can suggest parts to mod it.

It's laminated photo paper attached to the metal plate with adhesive spray. I peeled off the stock EX sticker.

It might be a little difficult to peel off the art on the FightStick (you have the review one; you would be a better judge than I) but I don't see why you couldn't just place the new art above it...

If you think you're going to be playing fighters on your console for a long time, I honestly would say to just bite the bullet and get the TE. But 150 Euros is quite a bit (would be close to $200 now, I think?), and if you go the SE route, just try it without mods and see how you like it - you can always mod it later, and having used it both modded and unmodded would probably make you better able to feel/appreciate the difference as well.

Oh, I read your post alright, why do you think I replied about it?

In any case, keep us updated on your experience.

I put in my info because like I said, we don't have a VGC in the database. So just warning people just in case. More than likely launch allocations won't be fulfilled there.
could you say if the Capcom online orders are from the first batch? So if I ordered from there when you posted the link will I get it in time for SF4?

I haven't been following the news on these sticks as closely as I should have (or I probably would have pre-ordered a TE before every store in my city sold out their allotments), but I really appreciate the look at the innards of the stick. Comparing the layout of the buttons and the PCB on this to my EX2 is quite a contrast.

So since I've been out of the loop, is there any info on additional allotments of the TE after launch, aside from fighting people on eBay?

Looks like the inside of a real hand-built cab, doesn't it?

I'm in the camp that thinks that less than a week after release, eBay sales will be MSRP. When the internet finds out that something is truly limited, the speculators come out and eventually they drown the market.

Anyone know a reliable place to get a HRAP2 still? I posted earlier in this thread that I had just got a HRAP2 SA but what happened was I had won an auction on eBay and the seller never sent the item. In the end I ended up w/ a refund and the other place I was going to get it sold out by the time I got my money back >_<.

So now I'm basically hunting everywhere for a HRAP2 or similar ps2 stick w/ easy to access quick disconnects so I can easily swap to sanwa or semitsu buttons.

I got an order in for a TE 360 stick from BestBuy.com so now I just need a good ps2 stick (& ps3 adapter) then I'll be set.

Did your eBay auction happen to be either of these sellers?

I went to one of those eBay seller's website, and it's selling there for $150 plus tax and shipping.

I can't vouch for either seller's reliability, but someone else already has, above.

The link doesn't work :(

I preordered Hori Street Fighter IV HRAP3, and also want to buy Sanwa buttons. I live in Spain. It will be my first really good arcade stick.

BTW Markman, do you know if the TE sticks are going to be released finally in Europe? I want to buy one, and who knows, maybe Game or similar stores would sell them.

I remember to see here lots of SF 15th Anniversary pads and sticks.

I sent an e-mail to Sony about playing PS2 games with the Mad Catz Fightsticks.

With the impending release of Street Fighter IV, I am planning on getting one of the soon to be released Mad Catz Arcade Fightsticks. However, I have read that it will not be compatible when playing PS2 games on my PS3 system. I know other arcade sticks have been made compatible with PS2 games on PS3 through firmware updates, and I was wondering if the same will be done for the Mad Catz Fightsticks?

This is something that I would really like to see since there is a great catalog of fighting and other arcade style games available on the PS2 and I would like to play these games using the Mad Catz Fightstick on my PS3.

Here was the response.

Thank you for writing us.

To be honest the MAD KATZ are made for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and should be supported if not there should be an update for it.

Don't know if the guy really read the question correctly, but if he did I guess he thinks they'll update it to support the Fightsticks for PS2 games.

In Sweden almost all videogame stores (including Game and Gamestop) carry both the SE and the TE stick.

I asked previously in Game and Gamestop Spanish shops and sadly they still don't know anything about them. Will ask next week another time.

That was the auction I won. I should have looked at their customer reviews more before bidding >_<. I saw those 2 earlier today, but I wasn't sure on the reliability either. So far it looks like I will have to buy one of those 3 (all around 180 w/ shipping). I found 2 other places which have them for a bit cheaper, but they seem kinda sketchy and I'd never heard of either place:

http://www.avcdistributor.com/Video...PS2-Arcade-Pro-Fighting-Stick-2-Hori-HP2-260/
$150.80 shipped

http://www.priceground.com/111-29776.html
$157.59 shipped

They are in "the system" at GAME, but apparently only their online store will receive sticks at the release (at least that's what they told me in the store I visited).

Gamestop however claims that they will have sticks available in stores, but I doubt that there will be a lot of them.

Update on the SF4 TE stick from JapanVideoGames:

"THIS CONTROLLER IS HIGHLY ALLOCATED BY MADCATZ AND QUANTITIES MAY BE CUT ON DAY OF SHIPPING. WE WILL TRY TO FULFILL ALL PREORDERS BUT YOUR CARD WILL NOT BE CHARGED UNTIL THE ITEM IS IN STOCK AND READY TO SHIP "

sounds like bail out imo. although JVG has been reputable for a long time, I think they've dropped the ball on this one.

Yeah, I pre-ordered an SE at Gamestop so I should be ok. If they don't have one for me on release... HULK SMASH! I also have a TE pre-ordered online but I probably won't keep it.

I don't think they dropped the ball. I just think they jumped in late.

Amazon has a new picture of the HRAP 360 that has a MUCH better button layout.

Did they change this for the US release? I have one pre-ordered and I hope I get the new pictured layout.

New aka Good:

It looks like the Japanese Death Smiles version uses the new layout too.

That's fair, but they are the only ones saying "our shipment might get cut the DAY of"

It just seems strange that they have no idea of what they're going to get; even in the slightest. If their supplier was Mad Catz, wouldn't they have been informed?

Asking as someone who doesn't know anything about this sort of thing... can you explain why one is better than the other?

I actually think that the JPN HRAP EX has a superior layout to the retarded Fighting Stick EX (DoA4) one. My only problem is that they used the four colored face buttons in the middle instead of the far left. It led to a very odd angle for the face buttons, something that only 1 other arcade stick has. Pretty stupid design choice if you ask me. If they were going to have the colored buttons in the middle, they should have used the HRAP1 or T5 stick button layout instead.

But yea, there are a lot of reasons why Hori has changed everything back to the DoA4 layout. There is a certain spec companies must adhere by when making arcade sticks.

It makes things kinda sucky for the end user because using the DoA4 layout means the sticks won't work with certain games out the box. Even games that they are branded for.

For example. The SCIV Hori, you need to remap buttons if you want to play correctly. Same thing with the upcoming SF4 Hori. Now it isn't a big deal to most.... it is very easy to remap in game etc.

But I have a gripe about this, personally, I think it is stupid to use the face buttons in a way that does not resemble the actually 360 controller. It should be standardized like PS3 sticks

ALSO... games that don't have the feature to remap buttons, those games are left out to try.

Poor UMK3.

:(

---

Now you might be wondering why the SF4 TE and standard FS have buttons mapped to work with SF4 out of the box on 360. The reason? MarkMan loves you, thats why.

UMK3 players can be happy now too.

Which leads me to believe they are going through a distributor... so yea, I don't know either.

Thanks for the explanation Mark. I'm getting my HRAP EX in the mail and am going to swap to swap the buttons for Sanwas and change the layout to match the normal 360 layout.

And wow...those are some good prices for the HRAP2 SAs. I don't game on my PS2 so it would be pointless for PS3 or 360.

If they had done a HRAP redesign than I would've gotten the SFIV stick...but it's pretty stale...and it would just be cheaper to rip the artwork and apply it to one of the HRAPs I already have.

I went ahead and ordered the HRAP2 SA from AVC Distributor. I have never heard of them before tho so I am a little weary but hopefully it all goes well this time (3rd time trying to buy a HRAP2 SA). Has anyone here ever purchased from them before?

Hmm, I don't know how much I believe that. But as alternative is unacceptable I guess optimism it is!

In the meantime, that standard is looking more and more like a solid option. Has anyone tried replacing the default art yet?

No one has a standard stick yet, but you can change out the art on it. The top art on the stick is just a decal.
