NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

A PA guy who is doing a make-his-own-stick thread grabbed one of these and said it sucks very much.

They may be out of print but they're easy to get. Amazon has some (not 3rd-party retailer) and I went to Best Buy and these were the only 3rd-party controllers they had and they had three of them, taking up the whole row it was on.

So no personal experience, sorry, but you know...caveat emptor.

Wow, I can't believe how Shoryuken is going ballistic over quality control issues in the TE, it's MADNESS :lol

I hope they're just overreacting and the people recieving scratched sticks, bad sticks etc are just unlucky... but I'm kind of worried now :/

MY STICK IS NOT HERE.
I hate gamestop.
I hate puppies.
I hate candy.
I HATE RAINBOWS.
ANGER!

I'll get over it, but I really wanted it today. Damnit.

Me too. But did you really expect anything less than the clusterfuck this has become?

Shoryuken has reached full on meltdown mode. I think we were all anticipating our sticks today and now that nobody got them bricks are being shit.
Big, heavy, bricks.

My stick arrived today (well technically it arrived yesterday but I wasn't at home) and in case anyone was wondering it does work with BC Xbox games like 3rd Strike.

The stick feels great and I'm really surprised to how fast I was able to readjust to it. Only thing I'm having issues with so far is the double motions for super arts but hopefully I'll get those down before SFIV hits.

I haven't tried the online for 3S yet but if anyone would like to help me get these moves down my live tag is K1773R GDL. Although I guess now we be a good time to pick up the 360 version of Turbo HD too, huh.

Great work MarkMan!

wow the Hori Ex's are crazy money. 130$ is a whole lot. I'm leaning towards the cheaper MadCatz fight stick

You think that's bad? I'm in debt $240 for a Japanese HRAP EX:SE. I weep for my credit.

I used the regular fightstick last night for SSF2HD and Third Strike on the 360. Feels really nice, and I have no problem pulling off moves at all. I'm transitioning back to stick from pad for the past 10 years faster than I thought I would.

Hoping that I don't get the dreaded email from Amazon about my PS3 TE. I should have preordered it from Best Buy just in case.

For anyone who received their TE stick from Gamestop, can you tell me the Sku #?

I wanna make sure the GS employee didn't swipe my pre-order, telling me i ordered the wrong stick from them.

On my packing slip it says 802976. Do they use the same SKUs in store though?

What is all this on shoryuken about QA/QC with the TE sticks? Could Mad Catz really have gone the extra mile on design, packaging, and publicity only to shit the bed on manufacturing?

They're overreacting. Two dudes had issues, just two, and only one provided a pic.

It looks like most are getting in on Thursday or Friday.

Also, that thread crushed my spirit and resolve with all its retardation. Don't go in, it's mostly flaming and whining, and people asking people to stop flaming and whining.

Those pics of the stripped screws (didn't someone on here have the same problem?) bother me. For $150, I don't want scratches, warped art, or stripped hardware.

toys arrived at the store lol so i brought them home for sausage fest09 :D
customers always complain that all we do is play SF all day so whatever

This is Mad Catz we are talking about here.

No matter who is making a product, there is a margin of error and some damaged items will get through QC. Currently only two very vocal people have gotten bum sticks.

In an effort to turn a MAS Stick into a functioning SF4 machine of death for my 360 I found an old Mad Catz Gamepad Pro 360

I'm going attempt to wire it up tomorrow and see if it works.

Does anyone know if this will work? I know the cheaper/newer Mad Catz are the de facto modding PCBs, but this is an older gamepad they don't make anymore. The PCB doesn't look like any of the other Mad Catz I've seen yet, so I'm hoping I didn't just kill a controller for nothing :P

Here's a (crappy) pic of the PCB. I'm thinking this is a lost cause, its hard enough finding normal info about this controller - let alone modding info :P

Can anyone tell me if this controller uses a common ground or not? Its unlike any other Mad Catz PCB I've been able to track down pics of :(

It said the 12th in the order confirmation emails.

Hopefully they atleast let us know tomorrow. I know the e-mail said they were going to start shipping, but they also confirmed a lot of people were getting the stick and we all know what happened with that confirmation

Damn this thread is losing steam quick!

I think everybody just wants their sticks and games, and is sick of the wait. Not much longer though...most US dudes should be set by the end of next week, and then things will get interesting. I look forward to delving into strategy and system specifics on a massive scale with NeoGAF. :D

That's a really nice setup you have there. Good stuff.
Thanks :D

It's hard to see in the picture but that thing the stick is resting on is one of the gaming ottomans that Target sells. It makes the perfect sturdy base if you don't have a table near your TV and then when it's time to call it a night everything packs neatly away. Well, kind of neatly...

I don't get the akihabara shop website.

Unless they don't have any sticks currently in stock I have no idea where to go on their site to find them : /

They don't list the sticks in the dropdown menus, only in notices on the home page, and you have to email them (contact@akihabarashop.jp) ... though i think they're all out of sticks at the moment.

Nice speakers. Those are Paradigm correct? If so, I have the exact same set....very nice stuff

What the fuck? Was anyone able to pick up their SE stick from Gamestop today? Mine said next week even after receiving the voicemail saying it would be there YESTERDAY.

what's your store addy and name? PM me it or something, i'll come by and play some SF :)

btw, i just went to the Shoryuken forums to see what the fuss was about but the thread has turned into a clusterfuck with trolls and many new users. hard to judge if people are having problems with the stick or with Gamestop in general. it's a mess there.

What kind of buttons would I purchase for replacements on my standard edition FightStick?

I just tried to move the two black ones to the other end and one of the quick disconnects was practically WELDED onto the contacts, and after several minutes of gentle painful tugging it finally snapped the entire button apart and all the pieces came falling out of it. So yeah, now I need a new one.

It LOOKS like a "Sanwa OBSF-30 Pushbutton with Vertical Microswitch" as seen on this page...

http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pages/pushbuttons.shtml

...but there are so many that look so similar and with such small variations in millimeter diameter I'd like to be certain before jumping on it

You shouldn't just pull on the disconnects, use a small flathead screwdriver and twist it. Basically you put it against the edge of the disconnect, under the button, and turn it.

Any 30mm snap-in button should be fine. Sanwa OBSF-30 would be the best bet.

Well thanks for the tip, kind of wish I'd known that earlier. I've been thinking about it and I'll probably just order some flat plugs to fill the holes for the time being, though. Don't know what I need 8 buttons for, really, and now that I've got all 6 white buttons in the US alignment I'm happy with it
