So. My 2 TE sticks are almost here (Amazon) and my HRAP 3 is feeling a bit jealous.

Dilemma: I only need 2 sticks. Do I sell my awesome modded HRAP 3 which features PS3/PC AND 360 compatibility...and keep the TE sticks and mod them for the same compatibility?...

...or do I sell one of the TE sticks, which are going for over $400 on eBay right now? Keep the HRAP 3 and mod the 1 TE stick I keep with 360/PS3 compatibility later?

what would you do?

Did you do the mod yourself? I want to do the 360 mod on my HARP 3 as well and i'm looking for info on how to do that. I would love to learn the process.

So I just got my SE stick today in the mail and Im pretty sure I have the washer problem because i feel a crunch when I move the stick down and back. Is there anyway to verify/fix without voiding my warranty?

I'll take the HRAP3 off of your hands if you decide to sell it.

You sell me your HRAP3, obviously.

PS3, if I recall that was the only one that had its preorder window briefly opened in mid January.
I'm guessing Amazon got all their PS3 shipments in but not 360.

I still haven't received word on my PS3 TE stick preorder from amazon.

Hmm. I don't know we'll have to wait and see what happens next week.

I played with it (SE) a bit tonight, now that I fixed the washer problem this is actually a pretty good stick. I suck at SF IV, but it's not the controller's fault.

I do have issues with one of the buttons, but it's one of the bumper buttons that I don't need. I should have checked the microswitch when I had it open. I'm switching them all to Sanwa anyway.

How did you fix the washer issue? I have heard of gluing it down and removing it all together.

welp, if I decide to let the HRAP 3 go, I will offer it up here first. I didn't do the mod work; I had a guy at SRK do it for me. he posts here too (akuma001). great work.

will keep you guys posted.

Any reviews for the Se sticks? Best buy is getting 18 of them on Monday.. and if i cant find anything else ill get one.

Are Best Buys in general getting new shipments in or do you know just for yours?

Depends on your preferences. Feature wise, it looks like your HRAP3 beats out the TE on compatibility, including BC PS2 on PS3, which you didn't mention. If you were going to mod the TE, anyway, then it would reach feature parity with your HRAP3, but have a longer stow-away cord. So, do you prefer the layout/casing of the HRAP3 or TE, and how much money would you be making/losing, going either way? Those are the things that will determine what you do. Personally, I love the layout/build of the TE stick, so I would keep that, but that's personal preference. Yeah, I could sell it on eBay, and get an HRAP3 for free, but for me, $150 isn't going to break the bank, and I'd never really be happy with the HRAP3 layout. Easy choice, for me.
I hear you.

What I planned on doing is modding the 360 TE stick(s) with the Cthulu board making them:

360/PC/PS3/PS2/PSOne/Wii/GC compatable. So they'd actually be *more* potent than my HRAP3. I can finally play Tatsunoko vs. Capcom with a stick! :D

I haven't received the TE sticks yet (they are in transit), so I won't have an opinion on them until then. If the stick feels right, it will be an easy decision. If it's a draw...well...we'll see.

Like I said, they're going for $400-$500 on eBay. I'm sure my very nice modded HRAP would command a pretty penny thanks to its 360/PC/PS3/PS2BC compatibility. But imagine if I put up a modded TE stick on eBay. I could see that auction going for several hundred dollars. More than enough to buy another TE stick when more are made.

Like I said, there are some parts that make this a dilemma. But this thread will be the first to know and the first to bid for whichever I decide to sell.

Yeah, Dreams-Visions. That would be a dream stick. A universal PCB in the TE case would be an awesome stick. I'm sure there will be more than a few of those, among the SRK crowd.

Get one! Anything SF IV related is becoming hard to get. Besides the washer issue(which is a piece of cake to fix) it's an awesome entry level stick which can be easily modified to a true arcade quality stick.

MarkMan,

Got my TE from Amazon today and I can tell you that on circle motions specially I can immediately (in 5 minutes of testing) see a huge difference over my EX2 stick. Everything about the stick screams quality and it feels amazing... I think I want one for my PS3 as well :(

I have one question though. The glossy part of the stick (the overlay? with the SFIV graphics) has tons of hairline scratches all over it. It looks like the material wasnt finished correctly? Do they all look like this?

just got my TE (360) in from amazon and played for an hour or two... came in perfect condition and seems to work fine 100%

fuck that JLF square gate though, my QCF's never come out. can't wait to sit down and drop in my ls-32... looking forward to the rounded edges on that square gate

Are the TE fightsticks quality in question like the SE fightsticks? I know TE's are made of Swana parts, but it's still Madcatz putting everything together...

Anyway, should I go for the HRAP EX or the TE fightstick? Which is more of a bitch to find, and if both are tough find, which is going to be getting the newer shipment sooner?

PS: My SE fightstick is good, I have no problems with it. But I figure I should upgrade and simply return the SE to Fry's (it's obviously still well within the 30 day limit)

"Are the TE fightsticks quality in question like the SE fightsticks? I know TE's are made of Swana parts, but it's still Madcatz putting everything together..."

Before anyone gives you shit and wastes a post making a joke about it, it's Sanwa not Swana.

Either way, the TE fightsticks seem to be 100% okay. The only real problem with the SE fightsticks that seems common is an issue with the assembly of the lever. The TEs use Sanwa sticks, though, so there's no problems there.

"Anyway, should I go for the HRAP EX or the TE fightstick? Which is more of a bitch to find, and if both are tough find, which is going to be getting the newer shipment sooner?"

At this point, I think if you're not already on a backordered list and not willing to shell out 500+ bucks, you're not getting a TE unless you get lucky with a random store walk-in.

"PS: My SE fightstick is good, I have no problems with it. But I figure I should upgrade and simply return the SE to Fry's (it's obviously still well within the 30 day limit)"

If you want to upgrade, simply buy new parts (though all the parts dealers seem completely *swamped* currently and you may be waiting a week or two for your order to ship) and swap them in your SE fight stick. The only recurring problem with the fightstick is sidestepped when you swap out the stick.

"Anyway know of a good tutorial vid on swapping out the fighstick parts with ordered parts?"

It's pretty much a "plug and play" affair. For the buttons you simply pull of the plugs on the bottom, snap out the button, snap a new one in, plug it back up. For the stick, I think you only need to unscrew the screws holding it in place, pull off the little adapter, screw the new on, plug the adapter and you're good to go.

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=BDEC0E72AC5926C6

Not really a tutorial, IIRC, but the guy does go inside a TE stick (SE insides are more or less the same so don't worry there) and tinkers around.

Alright neogaf! I'm being offered to get the SE mad catz stick in exchange for my old hori ps3 fight stick. I'm gonna pay a little more, but also doing him a favor as he just wants a cheap stick. To note, I already have a TE stick, but still wanted a 2nd one for when people come over y'know. Anyway, so the SE should be a lot better than the hori right? Aside from the washer issues.

You're talking about the Fight Stick 3?

ps3_hori_arcade_fight_stick.jpg

If so, you should definitely do the trade. The FS SE is vastly superior in terms of quality and ease of modding.

The FS SE retails for $79.99 (going for a lot more on eBay) and the FS3 is $29.99 at Gamestop.

With stock parts you're looking at similar performance to the hori stick, I give the FightStick a slight edge with the button response, even though the hori buttons feel better... The stick itself again slight edge to the fightstick, more responsive... I'll post more in depth comparisons between both (FS3/Ex2 vs SE) either later today or tomorrow. However you can purchase parts for the SE stick, and make the stick/buttons as good as your TE stick, something your FS3 is a real pain due to soldering.

Alright, I'm ordering some parts.

What the flying fuck is the difference between:

Sawna JLF - TM clone
Sawna JLF - TP
Sawna JLW - TM

And as for the buttons I know I need snaps-ins (since one of the buttons is too close to the joystick plate. But what mm size? 18, 24, 30?
Can anyone just tell me the exact shit I need to upgrade my SE fightsticks to TE standards? Thanks :)

Since my reseller screwed up and high end sticks are nowhere to be found around my place, would it be a decent solution to use a full sanwa modded Hori FS2 I have on PS2 with a PS2-->PS3 adaptator ?

What's the word on adaptators ? Does it create lag or anything ?

The main 8 buttons on the face are 30mm. The other 2 are 24mm. I don't know enough about sticks yet to help, but the JLF series seems to be more highly regarded than the JLW from my research.

Oh, and from looking at that link, definitely don't get the clone. It's not a Sanwa part.

Buy the Sanwa Joystick JLF-TP.From the drop down box choose the JLF-TP-8-YT model.

You need snap-ins push buttons and the Sanwa OBSF-30 are the correct ones to buy.

Choosing what colors you want is up to you.

If you're talking about extremely faint "patterns" in the finish, particularly around the screws, then mine is like that as well. It's possible they're all like that - just some people don't notice because you have to be looking for it in the right light.

Mad Catz has indicated that they'll fix these if you want - but it seems a waste to send the stick in for this. I wonder if it's possible to just get a replacement part mailed.

Markman?

Has anyone modded their VFHG? Any option for switching out the four yellow "buttons" at the top or should I just paint those to match new buttons/balltop?

I have been wanting to build a dedicated stick for my PC and hence need a case, now I want to get out of it as cheap as possible and was thinking about using my EX2(at least when my TE eventually turns up) case for the job. Will a Sanwa JLF and buttons fit into one of these cases without too much modding? Keep in mind I plan on using a Chulhu board and would be scrapping the Hori parts and PCB.

Dying the plastic is much more effective than painting it...

(not mine, just examples from SRK)

So apparently barnesandnoble.com does not have any more SE sticks.. I got a shipment delay notification from gamestop saying that I could cancel my order, but since I ordered through bn.com, I can't cancel the order myself.. so I e-mailed customer service asking them to cancel and I haven't heard back from a person yet.. hopefully within the next day or so.

All of my local stores have zero arcade sticks of any kind so I'm screwed, it seems.

Thanks.

dammit, that starcab website doesn't take american express...fuckin europeans. :)

Amazon TE never shipped today. Looks like the earliest I'll get it is the 24th which means a few more days of playing SF4 with the 360 controller. :/

I'm having a bit of a problem where instead of charging back I hit Up and Back :(

Do seimitsu sticks have a wider gate? Like a wider space to move the stick? (This is known as throw I think? I don't know the terms for sticks...never had to replace one before)

Same, but I think I'm used to the 360 controller except for the triggers. I can't do Sagat's Ultra to save my life. Amazon will probably ship them on Monday.

My final PS3 version of the stick is still idle (ordered on Jan 16th). Hopefully Monday it is!
