Saw the Fighting Edge at E3 today. Fuck that thing is beautiful up close.

Hype rising. Love the Hori sticks. Neat that they are releasing something totally new. Seems like all sticks now are pretty much equal so fun to see new features like touch.

At the same time, glad to see Hori is still content to announce SEs and SAs.

THAT persona stick! Kills the Hori. Four buttons! WANT! Look at that awesome Atlus logo. Looks like something Atlus had made for the show...no colored buttons and overt labeling. :-(

Newest addition. The sticker on the bottom just says "Real Arcade Pro." That makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Replaced all the buttons with Sanwa OBSF's, preserving the original color scheme and layout, and dropped a Seimitsu LS-56-01 in it. This brings me up to 7 sticks total. Getting there.

That is really pretty. I wanna start getting some RAPs from the prior generation. So classy, those sticks. Seems like YAJ is the only place to shop for good condition.

Been scouring the web for flesh pics of the new VF stick, no luck. Anybody have actual pics or a link to some?

What's YAJ?

Also, my recommendation on earlier-gen HRAP's that aren't SA or SE limited edition models...

Mod them so that you can take off the faceplate from the top right away...

I don't know that this type of mod would reduce collectible value, but it WILL save you tons of time for changing out components as they wear out!

As it is, those carriage bolts force you to take the damn base apart from the bottom and remove around 30-40 parts (mostly small easy to lose screws, washers, and hex nuts) before you can take the faceplate off.

I recommend ordering cap socket/button head screws (M4 screw size, 0.7 pitch, head accepts 2.5 size metric Allen/Hex key) and retaining the hex nuts that shipped with the HRAP... Glue the hex nuts on the interior of the hole where the carriage bolt went through to serve as the anchor for the cap sockets...

(NOTE: Hori's official HRAP 1/2/3 SA/SE cap socket screws are identical to the ones I mentioned BUT have slightly larger heads to accept 4 size metric Allen keys... Don't worry -- the 2.5 size head cap socket screws secure the faceplate very well whether you use a plexi or not or keep the original "naked" look.

(You normally can't find the head size-4 cap socket screws online... I've looked in tons of places. Most of the better hardware stores in the US only stock the head size-2.5 cap socket screws.)

I usually screw the cap socket screws onto the hex nuts and secure the hex nuts with hot glue to dry over night... then you can safely remove the cap sockets and put the faceplate back on before re-securing it.

The HRAP SA/SE base has a retainer ring for its hex screws so glue needed there! Your hot glue in the regular HRAP recreates that retainer ring. That's the only difference in the bases that I've noticed.

With the mod, your time for changing parts goes from something half an hour to 5 minutes or less... So, so much easier to only have to remove 4-6 button head screws versus 30+ small hardware parts and keep track of all that mess!

No,

Components don't wear out that fast,
BUT I was adjusting spring tension so often with the JLF (before I switched to Seimitsu control levers) that it was easier to do the mod.

I did this mod for the Tekken 5 HRAP variants and the 2 vanilla HRAP 3's I bought. Total of nine joysticks I performed the mod on. Very worth it, IMHO.

Honestly, in the long run I felt I made the right choice... The vanilla HRAP's are a pain-in-the-ass to change parts on/tweak otherwise!

Thank goodness it's easier to swap out parts on the newer Hori design cases... The previous editions should have all been SA-models anyway.

It took Hori nearly a full year to release a new case line (HRAP V3/VX) that have all been SA-models from the get-go (excepting a few SE-variant releases). Note it took competition from Mad Catz to make Hori change its ways...

That last point is a bigger deal than people generally realize. That's one of the most important things Mad Catz and its case designers (take a bow, Markman!) have brought to this section of the accessory industry.

so I just got my VSHG back from being fixed, and one of the button is completely stuck (pressed down, feels like no spring is in there). Is there some home remedy way of getting the button unstuck without opening the case? Because I don't have the correct tools to open it :(.

Who's got the best coverage of E3 with picks of all the new accessories and eye-grabbing games?

I'm really, really out of the loop on coverage of E3 nowadays... Then again, E3 has shrunk a bit and all these electronics and game conferences are a lot more spread out than they used to be.

My reaction = WTF?

No, but seriously, good sale!

If you have the cash and don't have a joystick yet, there's no question NOT to take advantage of the sale...

This is good stuff!

What's consensus on lap play? Is a larger stick better or worse for lap play? I have a FS VX right now, but looking into a HRAP VX SA. (Will sell the FS VX)

I play with sticks on my lap. Smaller sticks slide around and I hate that. Larger sticks don't slide around and I love that.

I second this as far as the current plastic sticks are concerned.

Hoping the fighting edge is better. :D

And Nyko has it's own Sanwa equipped stick. Stick can be mounted on left or right.

Oh good lord. Stay free indeed.

My LS-56-01 just shipped out today. I'm planning on installing it in a HRAP 1, ver. B (the non-mirrored surface). I opened the sucker up and it has one of those screwy hori mounting brackets that seem to fit a JLF just fine, but little else. I did some research and it seems like a LS-56 will fit in there just fine. Anyone have any experience modding one of these HRAP's? I think maybe even donkey "Mr. LS-56" show himself has a similar setup. Any tips?

Sorry about the late reply. I think there's a B mounting plate that would fit specifically on it, but I just drill holes into the current mounting plate and go from there. =)

No prob. The stock 56 plate ("VF") actually fits that bracket perfectly, but I picked up the "MS" plate along with the stick which also fits nicely. The biggest "modification" I had to make was doubling up on the washers to make the long screws fit without pressing up against the top panel.

Less than two weeks till Edge streets!

Anybody who gets theirs please post nice pics! Next to other sticks for comparison!

Don't get mine till July when I return to cali. They are just sitting in my mom's office right now ;-(

So I guess the great button exchange won't be happening until then either? lol

Should we PM each other our addresses just so we have them?

Yeah, go ahead and PM me the address. Won't get back to cali till around the 8th of July (stopping in Akihabara on the way home, yay!) Just gotta open it then send them. I'm getting one of the stateside Edges too. That is the one I'm gonna take the buttons out of. Either way, all the Edges will be waiting for me.

All of the edges!

So excited! Really looking forward to getting my mitts on the stick. :D

My arcade stick has been acting up recently, it doesn't react to when I hold up forward or up backwards. Well its like 50/50.

I would open it, but I don't have the right size tool to open it up. I'm considering buying a whole new stick because of this but I don't think it'll be worth it :/.

I have the first SF4 TE Stick btw.

I started having problems after I got it dual modded at Toryuken. Probably shouldn't have :/

I have a million 360 sticks, and it would be cheaper to just get a TE Kitty and mod one of them, BUT DAMN THAT MADCATZ DEAL IS TOO GOOD TO PASS UP. But will I get one in time for EVO? D:

On the bright side, that Nyko stick seems to have plenty of room between the buttons and stick, for those that are into that sort of thing.

And what is this supposed to mean?

...well, mostly Sanwa Denshi, as half the button plungers are in-house ...
e.g. The white buttons are legit and the black ones are knockoffs? Want even less now.

Thinking they mean all the little buttons like on the old Qanbas...anything not 30 or 24mm will be proprietary. The standard stuff looks Sanwa.
