So is anything ever going to be done about that total cesspit of a thread, also known as the 'Next Gen' thread?. Anyone mentioning Xbox in a positive way is hounded out of the thread. VFXVeteran has been mass attacked in there the past few pages. Complete fud being talked about as fact with xsx having oinly 10gb of ram, yet anyone even whispers '9tf' gets banned. seriously its almost like a cult in there at the minute. Its not a good look for the forum imo, especially when its supposed to be a thread to discuss next gen, not the 'unofficial Sony thread'.

We're just putting a plan together.
We did post in there some time ago with regards to thoughts. We thought with the reveals completely done there could be a thread dedicated to the Xbox Series X and one for the Playstation 5 (similar to the Beyond 3D forum setup). Unfortunately with the cat and mouse game going on between Microsoft and Sony, it has dragged on slightly longer. Also, there seems to be an unwillingness from anyone to step up and create these threads. The thread also generates a lot of views and serves as an archive and respository for previously discussed topics.
At the moment we are going through the list of reply bans, of which there are more than sixty and will be issuing amnesties for certain individuals. We'll then make a mod post in the thread detailing the expectations going forward. If any of them are broken then reply bans will be (re)issued. Of course, if you have any thoughts feel free to mention them.

Well i like the idea of seperate Xbox and Playstation next gen threads, maybe a seperate PC and Nintendo thread as well. 'Official' threads where fanboying isnt allowed, and drive by trolling means a thread ban. Thread bans would be an easy way to stop this crap. I dont know, i just look at some of the users in that thread, look at the post history, and what exactly do they bring to this forum?.

Look i dont even go in that thread anymore, i was only in it today because a post from it was linked in another thread. What a complete mess it is though.

I think just change the title of the thread to Sony Safe Space OT and let them have the thread. Xbox & PC fans should just leave that thread alone or accept that if you enter that thread you do so at your own risk. Just let them discuss theorize and fantasize to their hearts content without anyone to contradict or debate them.
Then make a new next gen Spec thread with the moderation rules and expected behavior going forward.

The reason for the suggestion of seperate system OT's is that they are easier to moderate from people running in to deliberately cause trouble/bait. However, I have a feeling that without 'incentive' the chat from nextGen will not go into the Sony thread. At least then, with it being a catch all thread with everyone in, if people want to retire for brandy and cigars to their lounge with fellow fans they can do so in peace. At this time, the review of fifty accounts has been done, and tomorrow we will roll some of the reply bans back and issue a mod post. The most recent bans have not been reviewed as not enough time has elapsed to learn the lesson. There are also people who have been banned in the interim, and there are also people, who, after a recent activity review have not demonstrated enough growth to have their review rolled back.

Really like the proposed ideas.
The next-gen thread should be a neutral ground for both camps to meet and discuss, and having OTs for each system, will bring some of the fun of Nintendo Gaf, an OT I've really enjoyed, to the other two systems.
Sometimes just getting to chat about a specific thing with fellow fans, is a really enjoyable type of discussion itself.
Is anyone thinking about creating the Xbox OT? I'm a rookie thread creator, so I don't know if I want to assume that responsibility, but I certainly wouldn't mind contributing some ideas.

The PS5 is never at 9TF as far as we know. It's a 10.28TF console that can go slightly lower than that under certain circumstances. But then we're (according to Cerny himself) talking a few percent at most, so maybe down to around 10TF.
It's simply not a 9TF console, and people saying that are being disingenuous and intentionally trying to make it look worse than it is.

People who care about the teardown are likely just tech heads and shouldn't really care for the brand on them. Both systems will certainly be interesting to look into akin to how Cars work.
I just wish people didn't compare as though being weaker in one area matters.

While there is definitely a Sony bias in the next gen thread, I would say VFXVeteran has deserved all the takedowns he's gotten. All folks have done is gone through his 'insider info' and proven that he's been wrong nearly 100% of the time. this only came after he boasted that he has been a 100% right. I mean we could've come in here and asked for his 'vetted' status to be taken away, but I think the forum or thread policing itself is the right way to go in this case. Mods dont need to be dragged out for everything.
That said, perhaps Sony fans are running rampant in that thread. They loved me until I dared to say the Sony conference didn't blow me away, and they turned on me faster than era turned on JK Rowling. The problem with 9 tflops is that there is no proof whatsoever that this thing has 9 tflops. Even Digital Foundry talked to devs who told him they were using the full 10.2 tflops by hitting max gpu clocks. At this point, it's just trolling to bring it up.
We have been talking about variable clocks the last two days so it's not like you aren't allowed to talk about variable clocks, you just cant mention 9 because it's used by twitter fanboys and makes no sense when full specs have been released. It would be like me calling the MS ssd a 1 GBps ssd instead of 2.4 gpbs because they dont have all the fancy stuff Cerny put in his I/O block.

Dont get me wrong, if its was the 'Official Sony thread', i wouldnt have a problem with it, but its not, its the 'Next Gen Speculation' thread, where everyone should be allowed to discuss next gen systems without being attacked.
I mean you said it yourself, you were attacked for saying you werent impressed with Sony's conference, and i'm the same. Sony usually knock it out of the park with their E3 shows, but this one was poor by their high standards. You just get labeled a fanboy if you dare suggest otherwise though. I mean there were more games that impressed me at Microsofts much maligned 3rd party show lol (Bright Infinity, Vampire Bloodlines 2, The Medium, Scorn, Dirt 5, and a couple of tohers).

This is also my experience. I have like three PS4 Pros and have a PS5 preorder but a small number of people in there are like zealots. You can't even have a conversation in there, worse is when they all spill out into the TLOU threads saying it's a world class game of never been seen before, and protecting anything bad being said. That being said, the xbox threads at one point were equally as bad for clicbait articles but they seem to have stopped now and are more reasonable. I just avoid next gen totally now. But I think that's something we need to push back on together. If someone is being an asshole, just say stop being an asshole.

I'm so glad I never had anything to do with GAF in those days. I'd heard terrible things about this place being a den of radical SJWs and based on bans like that it obviously was. I doubt I would have ever come back if I ventured in here during those dark days. I feel fortunate to have only experienced the excellent new NeoGAF. A rare spot on the internet where opinions that go against the prevailing SJW/cancel culture narrative are actually allowed.
