Hey guys, haven't drawn anything in a while but I'm livestreaming right now for something to do. Right here

I'll wait a few minutes to see if anyone is watching and maybe take a few quickie requests. Then post the results here later.

pracitce....I think I'm getting a lil better and lighting and painting n stuff

Denitely, I love the palette of this one.

Done some Christmas card commissions based off the 12 Days of Christmas

Each done in roughly 4 hours (some a bit less). Not my best but, I also hate drawing things really tiny. Feel completely out of the zone lately. I don't think I'll be doing themed commissions for a while...ever.

Edit: FiRez, that picture is genuinely freaking me out. It's painted well but reminds me AVG and when I use to scan for viruses back in the day and this guy came up. This face has haunted me for years. Thought you would like to know that.

Oh! I remember that, very disturbing stuff :/

Btw Love those cards, I bet they would look amazing printed.

More portrait thingsss

That's lovely Feran, Can't wait to see it finished

A question for everyone: Is there any art dedicated forum/community that you recommend? I'm truly tired of dealing with trolls on /ic/.

ConceptArt.org is pretty good. Especially their sketchbook forum.

Polycount is full of great people - both entertainment industry professionals and people just learning. Not solely focused on 2D work though.

If you put in effort people will be happy to help you, people posting bad advice or behaving poorly get shunned out quickly, though.

Thanks FiRez!

I like to browse cghub. Lots of working professionals and they've got some drawing challenges going on that might interest you.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys, I remember browsing those sites some time ago but getting intimidated by the sheer number of professionals who post their work there. I will try to browse again in those specific sections to give them a try.

As for today, I made another doodle.

...I had the intention to practice foreshortening and figure drawing in order to diversify from portraiture but I got too distracted,

I really need to start catching up with this, here is a couple character designs I've been doing thought the week.

Awesome, I love your drawing style.

This is my first time in this thread and I must say you guys are all amazing. I haven't drew anything in years (since highschool) and you guys make me want to draw something. lol. good stuff. Subscribed.

Got a chance to sit down today so I quickly wipped these out:

About 20mins; was sloppy and in a rush. Started with just the sketch on the left and added to each one as I went along. Wanted to have different variants for the soldier, starting with more your standard unit to more of a specialists or heavy. Also wanted to color each one based on a type of environment. The middle one is suppose to me for arid terrain, the right color scheme for more of a forest/jungle and I went with the black/grey/white scheme trying to capture the feeling as though that soldier is part of some distopian police force. I wanted the soldiers too look just a bit futuristic but still bey modern.

This one took me 4 hours. Was originally going for a mix of distant future and modern apparel for the character. Started with the jumpsuit as the base and added on from there. I figured I would start futuristic and slowly get tad more modern. I got stuck when I tried to design a helmet. I couldn't get a solid design down for it so I left it out. Im thinking once I add more on and get the armor somewhat bulky and less furusitc then I will add a helmet.

Hi GAF, I haven't drawn in forever, I'm trying to warm up a bit.

Here's a very concerned Fassbender I doodled at work. Hard mode: no eraser, shitty pencil!

Went overboard with the shading as usual. Please feel free to tear it apart.

I'm kinda proud of how her face turned out. Jack hamm's book is really helping me a lot in figure drawing

That's really good! I've been trying to learn figure drawing with Loomis' books but I haven't really been persistent and keeping up with it. ;_;

I don't like pastels very much! I liked using those brand of pencils though. :o

They are bit messy but I really like how they blend, the charcoal pencils are much more precise so I'm going to try to find more pastel colors but in pencil "format" and store these ones for when I need to paint. It seems that I will also need a knife to create a longer tip because even with 8B charcoals I have to keep the angle almost horizontal in order to get evenly spread values.

Thanks. You might want to check out Jack Hamm's Drawing the Head and Figure. Lots of step-by-step methods accompanied by tons of illustrations. It covers everything from head to toe. And it uses simpler terms so it's a lot easier to digest. Loomis' book is kinda wordy and I found it hard to read but that's just me. Maybe hamm's book will keep you interested

Well I certainly fell off the bandwagon, I think it's been six months since I last posted anything. Going to try and get back into the swing of things. It probably be more weekly for me instead of daily, but I suppose that's better than not at all.

A couple character sketches:

First one was with a regular mechanical pencil, the one on the right was with a Palamino Blackwing - which I'm really growing to like.

Here's my outline for the last exercise from that pdf.

It's only towards the end that I realized I had messed up the proportions pretty badly. I ended up finishing it and darkening the lines after so you can actually see it (scanner isn't that great).

Yesterday I did a process image of some concept for my story I'm working on, I took the original down cause I wanted to do some touch ups. But in my process I wanted to show the different types of armors this character can wear and who it goes from light to heavy, then I colored one just for fun.

The sketches were fairly simple and took me two hours or so once I did the basic jumpsuit, the most time consuming part was how I wanted to do the armor. I looked to Mass Effect, Halo 4 and Warframe for inspiration. Last one I did today about 2hours, went back and forth with it.

There were multiple light sources on the wallet so I tried my best. I think I did the shadows by the tongue part well at least.

I like your determination. Makes me feel like I should do some more proper studying as well. Also when you say "multiple light sources", do you mean that the light was hitting the wallet at several angles? Having multiple light sources would be something like having a lamp lit on one side of the object, and a second lamp on the other. The light source is where the light is coming from directly. What I think you mean is "reflecting". As you can have a single light source reflect in multiple ways off of one surface. I'm eager to see more or your studies.

It's a busy time of year. So I'll just drop these things here.

Sketch for a speed paint I'll have to do later, I'll estimate about 4 to 5 hours. Was a bit slow on it. Moleskine and mech pencil. Some editing in PS.

and had two more of these to do. 4 hours, mech pencil on this awful awful sketchbook I have. Colouring done in PS.

I've got like, 5 picture I need to finish before January haha. And I'm starting to do that same face thing. Need to do more actual studies.....

I have a few strong lights to the left in the room that I'm working in in addition to sunlight coming in from a wide window that's to the right. So it's a little difficult to tell where everything is coming from in terms of shadows. I'm trying to identify highlights then going from there.

I'm surprised that someone is looking forward to seeing more from me :p. It does make me feel good though. I'm going to try and post daily, as I'm finally making a decent push into drawing.

Here's what I'm currently working on. I picked up Ys: Memories of Celceta yesterday so I decided to try drawing Adol's sword from the cover. The sword itself is positioned in an interesting perspective so I thought it would be a good challenge.

As you can see it's mostly invisible due to my printer/scanner. I'll be shading/darkening it tomorrow so you can expect another post from me sometime then.

Also, your work looks good as usual. One of my main motivations for drawing is to eventually be able to do commissions but I realize that I'm a long ways off from being able to do that. Have to take things one step at a time.

Like the switch to traditional. Are you using the oil pastels only?

Ah I see, so yeah you do have several light sources. I typically start with the shape of the object, and gradually work with shadows in mind. Rather than seeing where the highlights are then going towards my shadows. What pencils are you working with? If you have an HB, don't be afraid to use some really soft and light shades!

I look forward to your work because its very very seldom that someone who wan't to progress in art actually start with the basics. Most people starts drawing the things they want, get upset and -then- after years of frustration and denial go back to studying properly (I'm one of them haha), You'll undoubtedly progress far more quickly if you continue to study as vigorously as you are now.

As far as your scans go, do you not have an alternate program to mess around with the contrast in like Photoshop, or gimp or sai? this way you're not trying to force yourself to make up for your scanners fall backs.

Commissions can be satisfying, but also nerve racking. I could probably write an essay on what I've learned so far this year trying to be a freelance artist. It does require a certain level of skill, certainly. But at the end of the day, if you put your work up for offer, let the audience decide if they want to spend the money or not. If you're not bringing in sales, you either need to either up your game, or widen your audience, but that's about it. If you ever have any questions though about commissions, I'd be glad to help.

Started painting this today :

About 3 hours so far. Still have a bit of a way to go but going to try and finish tonight. Using PS.
