very cool. almost vertigo inducing.
Coming from you, that means a lot to me so thanks man! I'm gonna properly scan it eventually so it looks good. By the way, I hope you're still producing those cerebral, geometric minimalistic figures!
Don't really have anything in the way of original stuff since many digital paintings I started but haven't finished. Have been looking at the Digital Cookie video series which I'll share in the Art Fundamentals thread that a friend recommended me.
That being said, I just started reading
This One Summer yesterday and fell in love with the art work so much that I replicated one of the panels on page 29 to get a feel for Jillian Tamaki's process when she drew it. All credit goes to her. In this panel, the main character Rose looks at a couple making out through a gummy foot.
Suffice to say I learned a few things from it when replicating it. Simple, bold lines, and a three color scheme (monochromatic colors in this case; black, gray, and white) create a fantastic composition that manages to look three dimensional because of the gray shadow tone. In what must have taken her anywhere from 20-60 minutes to draw, took me several hours on and off with corrections being made.
It reminds me of how Michael Cho uses a three color scheme in
Shoplifter (black, pink, and white; another great read by the way) to create expressive characters and a vibrant environment. It goes to show that keeping it simple can create strong compositions but I digress.
