Steamdeck could sell like shit and PC gaming will still be fine.

Same can't be said for Xbox platform.

That's why Microsoft will release an "Xbox" branded Windows PC next time around.

It'll be priced close to £1000 in order to sell at a profit, and it it doesn't sell million then no harm is done to the Windows/Xbox PC platform just as weak SteamDeck sales didn't harm Steam.

As for the Xbox console platform, it's over, it's dead.

I'm really enjoying all the conveniences and features of my dead Series X. I especially like having dead features such as Game Pass, Quick Resume, and Play Anywhere that allows me to play on the dead Xbox platform on PC as well. Looking forward to the dead release of this dead platform following their dead partnership with AMD and dead investment into Game Pass.

Xbox and PC were always working together, it's not just a marketing phrase but haters gonna hate anyway.
Of course, but there is still a large attachment to consoles. PC's are their own thing. Xbox no longer has that attachment to consoles. They're essentially going to be an overpriced pre-build with an Xbox sticker in the case.
They'll struggle more in that space than they currently do trying to keep up with Nintendo and Sony.

This isn't a "We're moving along with the current shift" but a "We have no fucking idea what to do anymore".

So, because you enjoy your Xbox, it means the brand is not dying and sales aren't falling?...

Oh my! What a ginormous ego you must have...

Over 30 million Xbox Series owners and millions more still happily using Xbox One consoles- what a ginormous ego you must have to ignore those people to prop up your tired narrative. :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

It was over the moment the media decided personal relationships with executives were a deciding factor in covering the platform.

"Why are fans disappointed ? They were all so nice to me at a press event, I even got my own copy of the game autographed. I don't get it"

Isn't it funny. They have more shills, ambassadors and "influencers" this gen than last gen, but somehow they managed to sell LESS than the xbox one. They should've focused on making quality AAA games instead of buying Gears and the media shills. Phil Spencer and their cult fans killed the brand.

If they had put as much effort into the consoles and some of the games as have building relationships with media allies and
online community lackeys then they would of been far better off.

A potentially brilliant long term platform never realised and that is what disappoints me most.

The worst thing, those arse wipes would be the first to cheer and brag if they ever did reach the majority of that potential that others have wanted them to achieve in the first place but are deliberately labelled as toxic and negative.

Not just xbox but I have been seeing SOC pc announcements left and right. which I am excited for actually. PCs are about to get much smaller with next gen console level specs. it's literally what I have been wanting for years now.

Why? DIY has it's own demographic as well as OEMs like Alienware and other tiers like Falcon, Digitalstorm. Everyone drink on something and it's smellier on PC for sure.

You have a hard time convincing me that the existence of something like this means that the "console" is not dead.
You're writing as if consoles haven't been using PC architecture since 2013.
There's a reason Sony employ Cerny as their hype man- to sell fanboys on the idea that there is some "secret sauce" in their consoles vs the competition. Hint: there isn't- they are AMD "consoles."

You fail to see that consoles and PC have entirely different business models and that "Xbox" is shifting to the latter.

Another nail in the coffin, potentially Microsoft's biggest upcoming game of the generation will also release on PS5

Watch that release date for the PS5 version be brought forward to align with Xbox and PC in the next few months.

It's just Microsoft that's selling much less. Sony is still doing great.

Too bad though, I had great hopes when they revealed the Series consoles.

Switch 2 will also do less than the Switch 1, but still well over 100 millions. Nintendo is in that weird space where they don't really have competitors, but can still eat pieces of everybody's cake. They are definitely having a greedy and lazy launch though. I hope things start accelerating next year.

And before one of the terminally online basement dwellers mention the steam deck or whatever new Asus ROG ultra gamer nuclear edition, those sell in their lifetime what the Switch 2 did in its launch month. They are nice for benchmarking against the Switch 2, but certainly not competitors.
Absolutely.
Switch 2 sold 3.5M units in 4 days. PC gaming handhelds altogether were at like 6M in early 2025 with roughly 4 being Steam Deck alone. Switch 2 sold over half the total number of PC gaming handheld sales in 3 years in a mater of a couple days.

You have to look at the overall picture though.

The Xbox One consoles sold what? I think it's roughly 60M, and we know for a fact due to leaked emails that Microsoft was thinking about shutting it all down then so you think that cutting that in half is good for them? They have already started porting essentially everything over to their main competitor including an announcement for Forza Horizon 6 today. They have announced everything but Halo is coming over so far and it's only a matter of time.

Then we can add the fact that it's nearly impossible to find Xbox in stores even in the states so Microsoft has either pulled retail presence themselves (way more likely as Microsoft can pay stores to keep stock even if it's not selling) or stores have opted out of it.

Yes, there are 30M Series consoles out there and there is still a dedicated Xbox fanbase but that doesn't mean the console and the brand is not dying.

I've been a pretty big Xbox fan since the beginning and I've owned every piece of Xbox hardware outside of the Xbox 360E. Hell, Halo is one of my favorite franchises of all time. I've pretty much just come to the realization that you just gotta let it go. I barely use my Series X outside of when I literally FORCE myself to do it. Yesterday I took my OG Xbox, 2 Xbox 360s (Halo 3 and Halo Reach SE consoles), and my Gears 5 XBO X to a local game store, and I'll probably just trade my Series X to GameStop later today and just get some PSN and Steam gift cards to fund upcoming games for awhile.

My memories will always be there, but despite having bought and sold Xbox consoles multiple times even this same generation I just don't see a place for it anymore at least in my setup.

The "secret sauce" is how efficient and performant an x86 small box they are engineered for the software-subsidized price.

Sound like a PC to you?

Let's not forget at one point Halo was destined for the Nintendo DS, but they pulled the plug on it, so it's a no-brainer that the next Halo will be on there too...Only a company like Microsoft would all but abandon exclusivity, yet the likes of Nintendo and Sony differ, you would never see Sony green-lighting the Spiderman, or Ratchet and Clank to appear on Xbox..

Sony and Nintendo intimately understand the game business. MS is a schizophrenic for applying whatever leverage they happen to have with a knee jerk. I remember when Halo 2 PC was Vista exclusive instead of just...on PC. They can't get out of their own way with this "corporate strategy" mentality, more open than the competition except when they have anything worth a damn then they get dizzy. I'm sure it will happen again, MS software will be everywhere until they smell a little weakness and see an opening again. Then they will get checked, and say "it was only 4 exclusive games"

But we don't have closed boxes like we usually do anymore. At least all these players are legit.

Definitely the worse of the third consoles at the moment. Most of their best stuff are already on PC day 1. They need to pump out a actual new Elder Scrolls or Fallout game to get back to the very top like how Halo and Halo 2 did during XBOX.

But even then Fallout and Elder Scrolls would also be day 1 PC when they come so there's not a whole lot of reason to go for the console even then.

It is:

Transitioning
Metamorphosizing
Rebranding
Transforming

it must die in order for there to be re-birth. For darkness and light co-exist and are in a constant battle and a state of dynamic equilibrium.

At this point with a major retailer confirmed to have dropped the console in the only market that it was viable in, yeah, I think it's time to call it. The system is in a death spiral.

My Mac Mini is more powerful than a lot of people's PC's and it is this big.

They almost got it right with the Xbox 360 but Phil Spencer just made the wrong choice after the wrong choice. Very few sells Xbox consoles and even fewer/almost none sell their games. And now GamePass just died. Sony wins, but is a bad thing since they have no competence. Only Steam remains...

Unhooked my Xbox series X today and replaced it with a switch 2…

Canceled my gamepass and bought Sliksong on switch 2.

Never thought this day would come but there you go.

Looks like I got out at the right time 😂

There is no need for xbox branding or console(s) anymore, but they are trying to salvage it by making 'xbox anywhere' with the purpose of making PC gaming 'console like' with simple UI and fast loading times. I am hoping that the one advantage that MSFT will have is getting rid of the constant bottle neck of limited CPU/GPU/RAM every 4 years. I think they can eliminate that. They can make MSFT/Xbox gaming ubiquitous if they:

-Create console like gaming PC's similar to surface line up and let OEMs follow pursuit with their own bells, whistles, whip cream and cherry on top
-Not be limited to AMD APUs, it can be on intel/nvidia
-Create SDK's, tools, API's that can run on ARM architecture and x86 at same time
-You can game on handhelds using 5G and soon to be 6G connection

If they can understand this vision, I don't care if Xbox dies. Unleash and summon the sailor guardian of death and destruction: Sailor Saturn- towards current xbox consoles.

I think all Windows PCs will be able to work like the ROG Xbox Ally next year.

Yeah it's dead as fuck.

The pillars are all on PlayStation now.
GPU has one more price increase coming.
Next-gen console will be $1500 and they'll only produce sub 10mil units.

and then the nail in the coffin...

GTA6.
