NeoGAF Votes: Most Anticipated Games of 2017

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild : Taking Zelda back to its roots. Emergent gameplay where it's fully encouraged to fuck with the given systems, along with a focus on exploration. What they've showed is the right direction to take the series.
2. NieR: Automata : Hopefully a return to glory for the character action genre, with the typical depth you see in a Platinum game. I fuck with the dilapidated industrial aesthetic too. The footage shown (esp. the boss battle) warrants its high spot.
3. Persona 5 : Still excited for this, but I've somewhat tapered off since it got another delay. It's still a sleek looking sequel to Persona 4 and I just wanna play it already.
4. Mass Effect: Andromeda : Mako return, big uncharted world exploration and the fast paced class-hybridized third person combat shown in recent gameplay is music to my ears. Mass Effect 1 without the jank pls.
5. Nioh : post-Itagaki Team Ninja has been taking notes and getting better ever since [redacted] was released. They're clearly putting a lot of care and effort in what might people may reductively assert as 'Dark Souls with samurai Geralt', constantly polishing the game through betas and building something distinct enough to thrive on its own.
6. Gravity Rush 2 : the world and music already stole my heart, improve on some of the mechanical and design issues in the first game and I'm sure this will be something special.
7. Crackdown 3 : I just wanna dynamically blow shit up with friends
8. Resident Evil 7 : Still wary but it's Resident Evil. They've been winning me over with time, and I'm sure it'll somewhat resemble the series traditionally. I welcome the return of the foreboding, tense atmosphere from the older games.
9. Ghost Recon Wildlands : ok this MGS V + Mercenaries with friends
10. Sonic Mania : sometimes something will come out and tap right into your nostalgia, regardless if it looks good or not. In this case though, Sonic Mania looks astoundingly good, and I'm thinking this will be the first Sonic game I'll play and genuinely enjoy without some reservations since the hey-day of the series.

Mario Switch would be #1 if Nintendo just confirmed it was 64-2 already.

1. Yooka-Laylee
Feels like Playtonic are still keeping quite a lid on what they show of this B-K successor. And I'm choosing to hope that's a good thing to keep world themes and such a surprise as opposed to under-delivering on content.
Anyway it's gonna be like 1998 in 2017 and I've missed my platforming collectathon combo dearly.
Also an OST with Kirkhope and Wise? HYYYPE

2. Super Mario Switch ;3D Mario might well be Nintendo's most consistent deliverer of quality these days and already based on a mere few seconds of footage I can see they've fixed one of 3D Worlds most glaring flaws, the lack of the triple jump.
Praise be to 3D Mario's athletic prowess.

3. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ; It's presumably close enough now that I feel safe putting it on an anticipation list, after much delays and what not it should by all accounts finally roll out next year and quite refreshingly I'm still not entirely sure what to expect from the game structure which is a nice shift for a series very beholden to a standard formula.
I'm not gonna proclaim it best of anything yet but 3D Zelda has always been a good time for me (yes that includes Skyward Sword).

4. Sonic Mania ; This could go towards the currently untitled Sonic outing that's supposed to be coming next year but since we still ain't seen hide nor hair of it outside a short CGI teaser a much safer bet would be for Sonic Mania which looks to deliver a nostalgia rush of classic Sonic gameplay and effectively be the Sonic 4 we'd hoped Sonic 4 would be.

5. Marvel vs Capcom Infinite ; One of the titles I can see getting bumped into the following year but hey maybe Capcom will surprise me. I've missed getting bodied by my friend at UMVC3 so here's to more of that in my future, hopefully with Asura this time.

6. Ni-Oh ; Maaaaan I sucked at the demos for this, my hype took a hit not so much because the game itself but because I was having to work so hard in an opening demo area of all places. Team Ninja could really use another great action title and having played the demo you can see that they've done well to differentiate the title from simply being Japanese themed Dark Souls. What's cool is that they've been listening to feedback and tweaking the game as a result.

7. Nier Automata ; Platinum games have had a rocky ride as of late so looking forward to see if their take on Nier or their own Scalebound can regain that platinum shine. Nier itself (the original) is a game I mainly remember for being satisfyingly average propelled mainly by its beloved OST and a few interesting plot points. So on paper Platinum bringing the crazy gameplay while Taro Yoko assumedly delivers the crazy plot beats (another thing Platinum struggle with outside of W101) this could deliver.

8. Gravity Rush 2 ; If it successfully builds upon the original game and irons out the repetitive combat and mission structure we could be in for a sleeper hit right here, the first entry had its heart in the right place but my word does it lose its legs in the back half, a return to the remastered version reminded me as such.
Also a contender for OST of the year.

9. Horizon Zero Dawn ; looks like a million bucks but I'm still waiting to see if Guerilla Games can deliver on the gameplay front

10. Persona 5 ; I do recall enjoying P4 Golden yet I can't really remember why, so I expect I'll like this as well yet I'm not sure why either

HM to Yakuza 0 because my friend has not stopped singing the series praises to me for like 2 years straight now and this seems like a logical entry point.

Also, about half of this list will probably be different come the Switch presentation, but oh well. Timing.

1. Persona 5: I know what I'll be doing to survive the horror of April 15th :p
2. Dragon Quest XI: Is this coming next year? West? I plan on getting this on Switch. Very excited.
3. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild: Still dubious about the general direction of the game and what Nintendo has been emphasizing, but the last trailer had me pretty excited despite that.

I'm hoping that Switch event in January gets me hyped for Mario and whatever else Nintendo has in store. Also sniffing around Nioh, the Yakuza games, Nier.

Edit: That DQ event has me very hyped. I'm not putting it first because I'm pretty sure P5 is going to be absolutely fantastic and also that it is coming west next year. I'm sure DQ will be great, but that is more just assuming par the course from DQ, less going off actual feedback to the game. Also DQ coming west in 2017 is a pipe dream.

Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2017:

1. Horizon Zero Dawn : It came out of left field at E3 2015. Sony had blown people's minds seconds earlier with the reveal of The Last Guardian, and many wondered how they could follow up such a bomb shell. Horizon came, however, and blew everyone away with the amazing battle against the Thunderjaw. It caught my attention then and there, and subsequent showings have added the necessary extra information I needed to feel confident that this game will be something special.
3079323-horizonzerodawn_e32016_grazer_1465873571.jpg

2. Tales of Berseria : The Tales series is near and dear to me. I have fond memories of playing Symphonia (11 times in fact) and Vesperia is my second favourite game of all time. Recent releases in the series have been less stellar than these two games, but all the vibes I am getting (and impressions I have seen in the import thread) from Berseria indicate that this game could once again capture that amazing sense of excitement that Tales has always given me.

3. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild : I have not owned a Nintendo console since the Gamecube. My third favourite game on that system (behind Tales of Symphonia and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance) was The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. It had a playful sense of adventure that had me captivated and that Breath of the Wild looks to be improving on considerably. Freedom of exploration is what I want from a Zelda game, and it feels very satisfying to be able to experience that once more. This game is a big reason why I want a Nintendo Switch.

4. Gravity Rush 2 : The first game took me by surprise. I had seen some footage of it in various media, and that was why I decided to pick up the remaster at the start of the year. When I started playing, it just clicked. Never before have I played a game that had such unique gameplay mechanics married with a nice story and endearing characters. The sequel expands the gameplay mechanics and provides a bigger and better world to fly around in. I can't wait!

5. Persona 5 : Neogaf hype has drawn me towards this title. It looks really stylish, and the gameplay looks really good. I don't think the social links are for me, but there appears to be more than enough goodness left beyond that mechanic to enjoy.

6. Nioh : I am not a big fan of the Souls games or anything. That said, Nioh seems to press the right buttons for me. It is set in an interesting and (at least recently) underused setting in gaming, namely feudal Japan. I have played a bit of the demos that were released on the playstation store, and I was amazed just how entertaining the game was. It was fast-paced, had a high difficulty but at the same time seemed incredibly learnable. Over the few hours I played the demo I felt I had improved a lot, and that was extremely rewarding. I am looking forward to playing the game, so I can see the story (which seems interesting) and can delve deeper into the gameplay!

7. Uncharted The Lost Legacy : This game was quite a surprise. When it started out the PSX showcase, I kept wondering what game it could be. Was it a Telltale game, or maybe the new Tomb Raider game that was hinted at a couple of weeks back? As the demo went on I started realising that it was a Naughty Dog game, and that it had to be the Uncharted DLC. That was surprising, considering the fact that some leaks indicated we would get Sam and Sully, but instead we got Chloe and Nadine, a perfectly valid exchange in my opinion! The gameplay looked fluid as it was in Uncharted 4, and the setting and story (as far as we can glean from the trailer) seem interesting. I am really looking forward to see what story Naughty Dog has in store for Nadine and Chloe!

8. Nier Automata : The game looks solid, both in setting and in gameplay, and although I have not played the original Nier, I am interested in playing the game and experiencing the story, which seemed to be beloved in the first game by a large set of fans.

9. Detroit Become Human : Announced at Paris Games Week 2015, this game looked like pretty standard fare for cinematic storytelling from Quantic Dream. The E3 2016 demo, however, showed just how far they are going with the branching story paths. There are many different ways to tackle a situation, with many different results. To top it all off, any result you get from your actions will carry forward into the story to weave a personal story from this game. I really like the apparent depth of this game, and I hope it will be as deep as they suggested it will be in the demo and in interviews. Looking forward to playing it somewhere this year!

10. Yooka-Laylee : A true-to-form platformer, what else needs to be said? The game looks beautiful with a really distinct aesthetic, and the gameplay seems to be tight and fun. My only gripe with it is that dialogue and possibly the story could be a bit too much directed at younger audiences for my taste. A minor gripe, though, if the gameplay turns out to be as good as I hope it will.

Some honourable mentions and some games that are not eligible for voting but I do expect will come next year:

x. Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age : I am relatively new to Final Fantasy. I have played Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Final Fantasy X and FInal Fantasy XV and love all of them. Final Fantasy and me have a weird relationship: it should be the franchise that fits my tastes best, yet until very recently my experience with the franchise was limited to Tactics Advance. It XV that persuaded me to get more closely involved with the franchise, and that was a really good choice. In anticipation of XV I played X, and was positively amazed at how good that game actually is still. Now, having played 70 hours of XV, I can certainly say that Final Fantasy is for me: I am absolutely in love with XV and with X, and I can't wait to try out other entries in the series (I have VII and Type-0 waiting on my PS4, for example). XII is a natural step in that process, of course, and I am eagerly expecting its release.

x. Yakuza 0: This game will be my first Yakuza game ever. I was never aware of the series, but the 2015 TGS showcase brought it to my attention (that was where they unveiled both Yakuza 6 and Yakuza Kiwami). Now, I am really looking forward to stepping into the Tokyo of the Yakuza series. It seems lively, the gameplay looks to be quite good, and the graphics are unbelievably good for a (relatively) small scale Japanese game. If Yakuza 0 turns out to be enjoyable, then I will be looking forward to playing Yakuza Kiwami later next year and Yakuza 6 the year after.

x. Ni No Kuni 2 Revenant Kingdom: This game looks to be a really playful yet emotional game that mixes a beautiful art style with an interesting world. The story sounds good, and the short scene of the battle system at PSX have given me some confidence that the game will play well.

x. Super Mario Switch: The few seconds we saw in the Switch reveal were quite intriguing: the gameplay at the very least looks solid, and there are elements in the footage that look out of place and seem to indicate some kind of story going on. Will likely buy it at launch on the Switch, since I have a large fondness for platformers and Super Mario Switch seems to deliver on that front.

x. God of War: The game does not have a release date yet, but Cory Barlog teasingly said that it would be releasing "soon". It looks absolutely phenomenal, both in combat and in setting. And amazing graphics to boot!

x. Pokémon Stars (codename): I would love to return to Pokémon! I never convinced myself to get a DS or a 3DS, so the Switch will be my first Pokémon since Sapphire (although I have played bits of Diamond on my brother's DS). Pokémon has been an IP that is closely tied to my childhood, so getting back into it, especially with the laid back vibes I get from the Alola region, will be a joy!

x. Dragon Quest XI: The game is planned to release in 2017 in Japan, but most likely won't arrive in Europe in 2017, so that's why I do not include it in my most anticipated list. It will be my first ever dragon quest game I will have played, and from what I have seen it appears to be right up my alley. Here's hoping it lives up to its name!

x. Crash Bandicoot N-sane Trilogy: I have played a bit of the first game on my PS3. It was quite a fun game, but I stopped playing it in favour of newer games, and haven't returned to it yet. Now, with the remaster of the three games (which also is confirmed to release at a €40,- price point), I feel like the time is right to really get into these games.

--------------

Let's take a moment to appreciate the Japanese goodness that will be upon us in the coming year: a sampler includes Tales of Berseria, Persona 5, Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nier: automata, Nioh, Gravity Rush 2. Whether you are the hardest of hardcore and want to have a challenge, or you love colourful exploration or a gritty tale, the Japanese scene has us covered. It is truly a great time for Japanese games once again, and (even if it may not be as great as the PS2 was) it shows us that Japan still is a great place for gaming.

(1) Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (PS4) - More tightly-focused than the mechanically-similar Xenoblade Chronicles - sometimes less is more. Plus Ivalice is just a brilliantly realised setting.

(2) Divinity: Original Sin 2. Physics-based systems, colourful world to explore, hard-as-nails combat should you desire; yes please.

(3) Tacoma. People-watching is fun: just look at the popularity of Big Brother. Gone Home asked you to snoop on a family's home, to unravel a mystery. I wonder if Tacoma can repeat this trick in a space-setting, but without the 80's nostalgia.

(4) Torment: Tides of Numenera (PC). Planescape: Torment is the GOAT. I don't expect this to be on the same level, but at least they're trying.

(5) Persona 5. Japanese Scooby Doo High School Friendship Simulator. Persona 4 took the cynic in me and fucking broke him. Come at me P5.

(6) Cosmic Star Heroine. Spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger? Ambitious claim. I only played CT a few years ago, but I don't think it has been topped... yet.

(7) South Park: The Fractured But Whole. The first one provided me with a concentrated dose of South Park, plus RPG elements. I couldn't manage to watch an entire season of SP, but I do look forward to another game in the same vein.

(8) Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Standalone DLC. Claudia Black has a very distinctive and memorable voice. The only reason this didn't place higher is because I don't think it will be a very meaty experience.

(9) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Ah, fuck it. The last few entries have done nothing for me, but this could hit the sweet spot. Or, it could be boring and too easy again. I really dunno.

(10) Mass Effect: Andromeda. Not picking this up at release, because Bioware often places their DLC content mid-game. It's jarring to go back and play through it unless starting over. I still think this is their best original ip, and the characters are miles ahead of what I experienced in Dragon Age (save Claudia Black as Morrigan, lol). Will miss Jennifer Hale, though.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Think I might actually play this on the Wii U even though I will get a Switch at launch. I absolutely loved the Wii U (probably my favorite Nintendo console) and playing this on it would be a nice farewell.

2. Star Wars Battlefront 2: I know the first game had its detractors, but I absolutely loved it, and I can’t wait for the sequel.

3. Sea of Thieves: Hoping this will be Rare’s return to greatness and a super fun game to play with my kids.

4. Shenmue III: Really hoping Sega re-releases 1 and 2 prior to this. I loved the first one, but never actually finished it and never played the second one.

5. Sonic Mania: Please be good.

6. Cuphead:
It’s just so pretty.

Also, maybe I just have my head in the sand but I dont know many indies that are coming out in 2017 that I am looking forward to. Where is the Firewatch, The Witness, Inside or Oxenfree's this year? What am I missing? Paging More_Badass... TEACH ME!

2017 is easily going to be one of the best years for gamers in quite a while!

Next year is freaking stacked. This list isn't exhaustive and most of my list is very likely to come out. My top 3 is interchangeable and 4 through 6 is interchangeable as well. Shoutout to Zelda and Read Dead Redemption 2.

1. Horizon: Zero Dawn : Well, it is finally time. The impressions from those who have played it hands-on have helped keep this game as my most anticipated title. Everything from the design, to the combat, to the environments, etc... Just yes. It seems like it will be a good game at the very worst. Whether it will be great depends on mission variety and things of that nature. I really look forward to see if it can succeed and become a big franchise.

2. Gravity Rush 2 : Ah, Gravity Rush. The remaster that released this year was my first encounter with the IP and it is my game of the year. I just fell in love with the traversal system, the general vibe and Kat. The feeling of falling through the air never gets old and I cannot wait to return for the sequel given the general improvements from moving the IP to the PS4. Can't wait.

3. Persona 5 : This will be my first Persona game and I really like the atmosphere, design, bombastic style and gameplay. I really look forward to it.

4. Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom : The trailer at PSX did it for me. The visuals and the gameplay.

5. NieR: Automata : I didn't play the first one but the gameplay changes here have me interested. I'm curious to see how everything else rounds out but the gameplay has its hooks in me.

6. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy : Nostalgia overload. I can't wait to come back to this cherished IP.

7. Nioh : Dark Souls-ish with tough difficulty. Mhm.

8. Yakuza 0 : This will be my first time playing a Yakuza game. After being accepted by YakuzaGaf, I am ready!

9. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX : My first time playing KH games.

10. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age : I never played FFXII. The trailer for the remaster looks good. So, I'm in. I've been trying to catch up with the FF games I've never played too.

Time to represent the adventure game crowd with my list of upcoming games barely anyone on this site is excited for:

1. Thimbleweed Park : Q1 2017 - I backed this on kickstarter because it is a new real adventure game by the creator of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion! It looks great and I have high hopes it will turn out like a classic Lucas Arts adventure game.

2. Full Throttle: Remastered: 2017 - One of my top ten favorite games of all time is getting remastered! I'm also excited to be able to play a portable version.

3. Gorogoa: Q1 2017 - I played the demo a long time ago and really enjoyed it so I am glad that they finally found a publisher and have a release date. The puzzle mechanic is really fun!

4. Unavowed: 2017 - Wadjet Eye Games are always hits so I'm eagerly anticipating the next one. Let's hope more than 5000 people buy this one.

5. Whispers of a Machine: 2017 - New game by the creators of Kathy Rain and The Samaritan Paradox, two of my favorite non-Wadjet Eye AGS games of the past few years.

6. Lamplight City: 2017 - New game by the creator of Shardlight one of 2016's best games.

7. The Journey Down: Part 3: A kickstarted conclusion to one of my favorite recent adventure game series. SkyGoblin are a cool company and I am confident this game will be the best one yet in the series.

8. Muv-Luv Alternative: Q2 2017 - Looking forward to finally playing this visual novel trilogy on Vita. I have tried starting it a few times on the computer but I really need to play it portable to enjoy it.

9. Finding Paradise: Summer 2017 - Sequel to To the Moon. I can't believe it will have been five years in the making but after a disappointing A Bird Story, I'm hoping this will match the greatness of the original.

10. 80's Overdrive: Q1 2017 - I wanted to include one non-adventure game on the list so I'll pick the spiritual successor to 3D Outrun. It looks so gorgeous. Can't wait to listen to some synthwave and race on the 3DS.

Besides adventure games I am really looking forward to the Switch, but none of the games are officially confirmed so I won't put them on the list. I am hoping that it will be the best Nintendo console yet, especially if all the port and virtual console rumors are true then I may get my wish of having the whole of Nintendo's library on one portable machine!

01.) Resident Evil 7
I mean... did anyone else expect anything different from me? I think it'll turn out great and is currently my most anticipated game.

445dc444c25cac405931de5ac0fccc09e6f9fae2d6b00210fb83fbd0adaf7618.jpg

02.) Visage
Upcoming horror game with a lot of style and twistedness I'm excited for. It's a bit hard to say in words, but I love the art direction and surrealist edge.

Little-Nightmares-Spring-2017-Ann.jpg

03.) Little Nightmares
I've been looking forward to this ever since it was known as Hunger, love the style, world, and charm this game emits.

stal-izvesten-pervyy-personazh-outlast-2-32306.jpg

04.) Outlast 2
The original Outlast was good, I wouldn't say great and it suffered from repetition and some other quibbles. I think Outlast 2 is shaping up to be something special though, and love the new setting, stranger world, and stronger narrative focus and selection of antagonist.

05.) Routine
Probably the most exciting sci-fi horror game coming out from the selection and one that's been in the making for some time now. Excited for it to finally release.

06.) Get Even
Makes me think of a stranger Condemned, and that's right up my alley.

07.) NieR Automata
Sequel I never thought would happen that's looking better than I'd ever anticipated. Love the style, music, and combat shown so far.

sonic-mania_feature.jpg

08.) Sonic Mania
It's an incredibly charming 2D Sonic game made by some real talent, what more do I have to say?

friday-game.png

09.) Friday the 13th
I like multiplayer and I like horror games. I kind of expect this game to be more of a 'novelty' than a strictly great game, but the idea of even a decent Friday the 13th game does have be excited.

47f76284b2a739445d3b2d95eeeb1097.png

10.) Lorelai
Really liked The Cat Lady and Downfall, so of course I'm excited for this. Plus I think this looks like their most engaging project yet.

I'm purposely leaving out games I think have a high chance at being delayed, like Call of Cthulhu (2017).

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild : I haven't been this giddy about a game since I was a kid. This looks like everything I've wanted from a Zelda game ever since the series went 3D.

2. Red Dead Redemption 2 : I hope it's not a direct prequel or sequel to the first game. But even if it is, I'm sure it will be great.

3. Horizon Zero Dawn : I'm so glad Guerilla is doing something other than a futuristic military shooter. If they can avoid some of the trappings and tropes of moder open world games then this one could be something special indeed.

4. Shenmue III : This game is not releasing in 2017. Not gonna happen. It sure would make me happy if it did, but there's no way in hell it's happening. The recent Giant Bomb endurance run of the first game got me excited for some more Shenmue and I'll be happy to see where it goes no matter the quality of the actual game.

5. Mass Effect: Andromeda : Enough time has passed since Mass Effect 3 came and left a bitter aftertaste and now I'm actually yearning for another Bioware epic. My initial hopes of a more Star Trek-y adventure about discovery and conflict in favour of the originals tiresome hero's journey have been dashed, but what we've seen so far still seems like a quality game.

6. Torment: Tides of Numenara : Have been on a media blackout for more than a year now, but I have a feeling that this game has something special in store.

7. Resident Evil 7 : Having grown apathetic towards anything Reisdent Evil related since the fifth installment and seeing Capcom churn out uninspired sequel after another, I was prepared to dimiss RE7 before it was even announced. But so far, everything they've shown seems to be a step in the right direction. Gone is the ridiculous and convoluted plot that only seemed to be a vehicle for fan service. Instead we seem to be getting something more intimate and personal, while also getting back to some actual horror elements. The 1st person camera could mean that it won't feel like an actual Resident Evil game, but at this point I'll gladly take a good horror game rather than a new Resident Evil installment.

8. Prey : With Chris Avellone doing some of the writing and the first trailer hinting at some interesting narrative concept, this game sure seems interesting. Not sure about the gampelay yet.

1. Horizon: Zero Dawn : New IP and it looks amazing.
2. Mass Effect: Andromeda : My favorite series of all time. Can it rebound from ME3's ending, though?
3. Star Wars Battlefront 2 : Love the first one, can't wait to see how they build on that foundation.
4. Uncharted The Lost Legacy : A no-brainer.
5. Hellblade Sensua's Sacrifice : Looks amazing and has an interesting subject matter.
6. Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite : I need to see the full roster.
7. Injustice 2 : See MvC.
8. Wipeout Omega Collection : I need a good racing game.
9. Vane : I don't know what it's about, but it sure is pretty.
10. Detroit: Almost Human : We can hope, right? It'd be higher on the list if we knew 2017 was a sure thing.

1. Tekken 7: Tekken is easily my favorite fighting game, and while i'm pretty pissed that it's taken this long to come out so it's not 100% happy anticipation i'm feeling anymore... it still has to take the top spot.

2. Persona 5: I love Persona. 5 should be great.

3. Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star: Musou games are great. Musou game with amazing Fate Extra characters is greatest.

4. Nier Automata: The style, the combat, the characters.. this just looks perfect.

5. Marvel vs Capcom Infinite: Super into the MCU right now so really excited about this. But we don't yet know enough for me to rate it higher. Capcom might muck it up.

1. Red Dead Redemption 2 : The sequel to one of the greatest games of all time? Yeah, dude, let's go!
2. Horizon Zero Dawn : Looks amazing. Will it be fun, though?!
3. Yakuza 0 : Am I feeling Yakuza fatigue? Maybe. But I probably won't pass up PS4 Yakuza action!
4. Mass Effect Andromeda : Will it be awesome like past Mass Effects or a letdown? Find out soon!
5. Ni no Kuni II Revenant Kingdom : My son and I had a good time playing the first game. Hopefully this one isn't as much of an occasional chore!
6. South Park The Fractured But Whole : The first game was surprisingly great. Will the new game be able to add anything worthwhile to the South Park experience?!
7. Guardians of the Galaxy The Telltale Series : Pfft. Comic book nerdery. (But the movie was actually a lot of fun!) And Telltale?! Gross!! But after that sweet, sweet Tales from the Borderlands...? This just might work!
8. Shenmue 3 : I dunno. People are excited. I backed it because why not? Let's goooo!
9. Cuphead : Hey, this game still has a fantastic art style. Will it suck? Maybe!
10. Rime : This game also looks beautiful? Does it still exist? Hopefully!

I'm kinda happy because there's only one game I'm definitely buying in 2017 (Red Dead). Maybe I'll be able to finish the 10+ games lying around collecting dust. Probably not, though.

5. Mass Effect Andromeda
6. State of Decay 2
7. Yooka Laylee

9. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands
10. Halo Wars 2

So many great games next year and though I'm hyped to see more of Zelda and Horizon and a few others I'm only going vote for the games on the console that I have right now.

I've noticed when creating top 10 in the past I don't even end up buying half of them and a lot slip into the following year. This time only listing games I'm 100% going to buy and at least 80% sure will release in year.

1. Red Dead Redemption 2; Yea this game is going to be a landmark release.

2. Windjammers; This is the most awesome game I have never seen, I must own it!

3. Nier Automata; The demo cemented my purchase.

4. Sonic Mania; The perfect way to bring Sonic back to the fans.

5. Uncharted the lost legacy; Happy to see that Chloe and Nadine are back. Ive already pretty much payed for it with the pass.

6. Yakuza 0
7. Yakuza Kiwami
8. Nioh
9. Hot Shots Golf (PS4)
10. Red Dead Redemption 2

9. God of War: As a huge fan of this series, this normally would have been Top 3 for me. But the Last of Us-ification has me worried. But being God of War it makes my list by default. Having said that, thisbis most likely 2018 right?

10. Spider-Man: Is this expected in 2017?

Games that do not have a confirmed 2017 or 'TBD' 2017 (estimated window) release date. Kingdom Hearts III, WiLD, God of War, spider-Man, Cyberpunk 2077, Detroit: Become Human, etc

Only confirmed 2017 titles are allowed.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild : Please Nintendo I'm dying

2. Red Dead Redemption 2 : Loved the first one, I hope they don't force online into it thanks to GTAO

3. Star Wars Battlefront 2 : The first one was really fun but this time they need to put more content at launch (is this valid? They already talked openly about it)

1. Sonic Mania - I love everything I've seen about this game so far. I have no problem putting it on top and anticipating the crap out of it. Extremely excited for this one as I'm a huge Sonic fan. It helps that it's in some really capable hands, too.

2. Red Dead Redemption 2 - Not sure how I'm feeling about a prequel, but I know I'll love it anyway, so it doesn't matter. Just thinking about a new RDR is exciting as hell.

3. Project Sonic 2017 - A new 3D Sonic title that seems to have the mechanics of Generations with original levels? I'm in. We'll see what it actually is, but I'm highly anticipating how it will turn out.

4. Yooka-Laylee - Hopefully this is the platformer of dreams. It's the first thing I've ever backed, so I'm excited to see how the game turns out.

5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - I'm always excited about a new Zelda game, but I'll probably end up getting more excited for it once we see the release date and I figure out what I'm doing with the Switch.

6. Cuphead - Love how this game looks. The art is beautifully done, and it looks nice and challenging. A game that's right up my alley.

7. Mass Effect: Andromeda - I'm intrigued by this game, but there's something holding me back from really anticipating it. Not sure how to put that feeling into words. I'm looking forward to it, but I don't want to get too hyped yet.

I don't even own a system that Red Dead Redemption of Breath of the Wild will launch on, but I'm considering but one for both of them... after word of mouth after release. The only games I've played this year that launched this year are Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition, and Reigns. So I won't be surprised if I don't get to most of the above until 2018 or 2019.

1. Nioh : I've played that beta more than I've played some full games. Ninja Gaiden x Dark Souls looks to be something really fucking good, and different enough from Souls to not be a shameless rip-off too. I haven't been hyped for such a game since, well, Dark Souls games/Bloodborne, and having played the substantial beta, I know what to expect. Can't wait.

2. Horizon Zero Dawn: Everything we know so far looks appealing, from the combat, setting, character design, art style. Of course some games look good on paper and end up being disappointing. I truly, truly hope this won't be the case. Please be good!

3. Cosmic Star Heroine : A return to the Phantasy Star and Chrono Trigger glory days, made by two passionate indies untainted by corporate meddling. Proud backer, who has been waiting patiently, but now that I know the release date is juuuust within our reach (Q1 2017) I'm getting more and more impatient!

4. Death's Gambit : 2D Souls-like with influence from Castlevania and Shadow of the Colossus. Been waiting impatiently for that one.

5. CrossCode : Another project I proudly backed, based on a fantastic demo/prototype. Combat reminds me a lot of Ys games, and with clever Zelda-like puzzles.

6. Eitr : 2D Souls-like with Diablo influence. Looks really neat. (Source for 2017 release window here)

7. Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom : Spiritual sequel to Wonder Boy in Monster World, created in cooperation with its original creator too! Shaping up to be looking real good. We need a new Monster World-like game badly... and we may get two!

8. Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap (Remake) : A fully accurate remake of the classic game, but with absolutely gorgeous visuals and music? Why not?

9. Trails in the Sky: The 3rd : Confirmed English localization for 2017 (crosses fingers), it'll be nice to see the epilogue of Estelle and Joshua's adventures.

10. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy : Chloe and Nadine's adventures? Sound fun. At least we know it'll be pretty.

1. Resident Evil 7: Resident Evil is my second favorite video game series and after Resident Evil 6, I just stopped caring about it. With what I have seen from Resident Evil 7, and I've seen very little of it, I'm super excited and can't wait to get my hands on it.

2. Red Dead Redemption 2: Absolutely loved my time with the first game and looking forward to more. I really enjoy Westerns and Rockstar did a great job with the world last game, so I'm expecting even greater things with this one.

3. Yakuza 0: Another favorite series of mine. There really isn't anything else like Yakuza out there and the fact that we're getting more of the games here in the States has me very excited.

4. Persona 5: Really liked the other Persona games and this one in particular has the coolest style from what I've seen. Everything about it looks awesome and can't wait to sink hundreds of hours into it!

5. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy: I can't believe we're actually getting this. The first three Crash games were ones I played constantly and I'd consider them to be some of my favorite games. The N. Sane Trilogy looks beautiful.

6. NieR: Automata: The first NieR game was a blind buy for me and was blown away by how much I enjoyed it. The fact that we're getting a sequel still blows my mind, and with
Platinum working on it, I expect good things.

7. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age: My third favorite Final Fantasy game. There's not much to really say about this one other than I've been wanting to replay it for some time and I can't wait to play it again on my PS4.

8. Mass Effect: Andromeda: Like many others, I was disappointed with the third game, but Andromeda is a clean slate and I love me some space adventures so I'm very much excited for this one. The gameplay I've seen for it looks incredible.

9. Nioh: Been steering clear of just about everything for this game in hopes that I can go in almost completely blind. It's challenging and the setting really piques my interest.

10. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy: I love all of the Uncharted games and I am so excited to spend more time with the characters.

Not being able to vote for Mario Switch or Splatoon 2 even tho they are most likely coming out in March and they are officially shown off via video is so ridiculous, that I will be voting for them regardless. Disqualify my votes if you must, but i will not stand for such stupidity.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild : (NS) Third year's the charm. I have long awaited this game, and as someone who usually gets lost too easy in games I am ready to get lost and enjoy it this time. All the footage looks great and I await this game.

2. Splatoon 2 : (NS) First one was my GOTY and this'll have much more content in a portable. If I played over 300 hours on the first one despite hating playing on a tv, I can only imagine how much I'll play here.

3. Persona 5 : (PS4) Loved P4G and also liked P3P and now playing PQ. I can't wait to have another year with a great cast of characters.

4. DanganRonpa V3 : (PSV) Another DanganRonpa game and with another girl protagonist! Very excited for this new story!

5. Super Mario Switch : (NS) Always excited for more Mario! And while I prefer the linear games, a more open Mario as the rumors sugget sound more exciting since the linear games were getting stale.

6. Gravity Rush 2 : (PS4) Excited for the sequel and likely last game in this franchise. Happy to have more Gravity Rush!

7. Rose in the Castle of Twilight : (PSV) Love 2D horror so I'm excited for this! Thanks NISA for all the great horror games recently and I hope it continues!

8. Horizon: Zero Dawn : (PS4) Games looks great and I've been interested into getting into more open world games.

9. Yoshi & Poochy's Woolly World : (3DS) Never got the WiiU version and I always enjoy Yoshi games so I'm looking forward too it.

10. Marvel VS Capcom Infinite : (PS4) Been wanting to get into another fighting game and of all the upcoming ones, this looks like I'll enjoy it the most. Unless something crazy like Nintendo VS Capcom, Playstation All Stars 2, or a new Persona Arena game comes out next year I will very likely stick with this as my new fighting game.

10.) Lorelai
Really liked The Cat Lady and Downfall, so of course I'm excited for this. Plus I think this looks like their most engaging project yet.

I'm purposely leaving out games I think have a high chance at being delayed, like Call of Cthulhu (2017).
Props for including Lorelai, I am looking forward to it as well. Routine seems like it could be cool too.
