Looks much better!

Yeah it doesnt look quiet that grey in real light however, and you can see slightly light areas where the heavy staining was on the front right, but overal a great improvement.

I might put it back out again tomorrow to see if i can get those areas improved. Can you leave a shell in the solution too long?, or does it just get to a certain level and doesnt go anymore?

Stopped by the local pawn shop since i hadn't in the last few weeks.

12 dollars for these guys.. I've always enjoyed Cool Spot, am an Arnold Fan, always wanted to play Golgo 13, and the others seemed like a good gamble at 2 bucks a piece.

They also had a Bionic Commando for 3 bucks, but it looked like it gone through hell and back. Had to pass.

$40 sounds a bit much, but it seems that in general FC -> NES adapters are pretty expensive for some reason. Not sure what the shipping would be for you, but there's also this one from Krikzz for $25. No shell but you can put straps on it to pull out the cart with.

I hope you haven't had the chance to order the adapter from Krikzz because I found out today that apparently you can't put a Famicom cart on them like it is. I haven't tried this adapter myself but you apparently need to take out the PCB from the FC cart to use them with this adapter according to a guy I know who ordered a bunch of these to sell.

Not sure what you are expecting, but Spot on the NES does not equate Cool Spot on the SNES/Genesis. It's pretty much a backgammon type game.

Yeah I know it's not the SNES platformer.

I just thought that was his name.. My sister and I used to play the NES game together.
Actually pretty fun, and 4 players is nice.

Grabbed this lot for $60 today...

Have most of the games already, but I wanted a Mega Man 2 and having a back up NES and some pads is great.
Not bad, a spare NES is always handy.

I have like four spares buying lots back in the day to get specific games hidden in them several years ago, one I remember quite specifically had twenty really good games (most were duplicates for me but whatever) plus Snow Brothers, which I got for $60. That was an awesome win since Snow Brothers was going for about $60 at the time on its own.

Random whining: I'm never gonna find a somewhat affordable "Mighty Final Fight" with box, am I? No? Didn't think so. :(

(and no, don't want to go the Famicom route)

just ordered a brand new copy of Sunsoft Memorial Vol. 6 (on the PS1) for Gimmick (already have a Super Spy Hunter cart).

Hopefully the controls are mapped out correctly, as I've read a few complaints.

I've been checking out the game myself for years, but just decided to pull the trigger.

If the controls aren't mapped out to my liking on the Dual Shock, hopefully they're better when using one of my Saturn-style PS2 pads.

I believe the controls are mapped as X=B and Circle=A. On a standard PlayStation pad, it's really jarring. I think that layout works on Super Nintendo controllers due to the way the buttons are spaced out, but PlayStation controllers' buttons are spaced just differently enough that it feels weird to me.

Also, as a reminder, it's available on Japanese PSN. Apparently it's free for PS+ right now if your Plus account is Japanese.

thanks for confirming, as this is what I thought... Reminds me a bit of the NES dogbone controller layout, which I could never get used to...

Hopefully it plays better with the Saturn style controller.

Got a pretty sweet lot for $32

Shatterhand
Metal Gear
Double Dragon
Operation Wolf
Bad Dudes
Strider
Wizards and Warriors
Magmax
Anticipation

Already have Metal Gear, Double Dragon, and Operation Wolf, so I figure I sell those and cut the cost in half

I was curious if anyone else has had this issue or might know of a solution. I got a copy of Adventure Island 2 that seems to have a video problem. I have taken it apart and noticed there was corrosion on the pins. I have cleaned that off as much as I can hoping it would fix the problem but it is still there.

That's nasty.

Some of the pins are in a pretty bad shape, the copper has been eaten away. You can't repair something like that without taking the soldering iron out. I don't even know if you could retin them, I don't think tin would even stick to the bare pcb.

So continuity test each pin, tin them to prevent more damage (apply tin all over it, remove the excess with braid). If you have to, make the connection with a wire, but the resulting thickness may damage your port if you solder it too low.

Or you desolder the rom to save it and put it in a worthless game. That is, if this one is worth it of course.

Yeah, I knew it was pretty rough. I was just hoping to salvage it in some way since the game still seems to run fine.

Though I do love Adventure Island 2, it's not worth the trouble.

I decided to give the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game a try again. I had only beat it once in my life as a kid and just remember it being one of the hardest games ever.

I'm happy to report that it's nowhere near as difficult as I remember and finished it quite easily actually.

It seems as a kid you want to kill every enemy and explore every possible scenario. As an adult, I know the goal is just to beat the game and basically minimize damage.

I knew exactly which buildings to go into, which to skip and where to go. I beat the game with all 4 Turtles near full health. Despite it's legacy, I think its a great game with memorable music, sound effects and good gameplay.

My second goal was to beat Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. With all of the AVGN videos floating around, I wanted to try for myself. I did fine until the last level (just like his recent video) but after numerous attempts I managed to beat it with the good ending.

The game while awful, has something charming about it. It's really not that difficult, it's just boring and frustrating. The difficulty comes in the cheapness of the design and random elements. Once you learn how to out-cheap the game, it's playable.

Come on the game is still rock hard, the Technodrome level just takes the piss. I used to be able to breeze through the rest of the game but when i got to the Technodrome i just died....alot, those twats with the rocket packs and lasers!!!

.
The game is hard.

However your point about the buildings makes sense. If I ever go through it again, I'm going to want to make a map to remember which buildings are and aren't worth my time so I can skip the worthless ones on further attempts.

I was dreading that area but literally found the Technodrome in a couple of minutes. I don't know if it's random but as soon as the stage starts, you just go down to the bottom floor and there it is. You hardly have to fight any enemies.

Yea but that's not a fair impression of the game. We didn't have maps or walkthroughs to help us out when we were kids. Of course it's not hard when you know exactly where to go and what pitfalls to avoid. But I wouldn't see that as much of an accomplishment aside from knowing that you beat it. What would be more of an accomplishment is beating it going in blind like the old days.

I did it blind. The difference is if I went into a building that I knew had nothing of value in it, I didn't go into it. As a kid, I would go in there anyway because it was part of playing the game.

Also, the air field stage was extremely confusing as a kid but as an adult, I just followed the numbers on the wall and it was self explanatory.

If you have never played the game, it would certainly be a challenge but if you played it a ton as a kid, it's worth revisiting with an adult mind because it's not that hard if you just focus on just going where you need to go to finish the level and not trying to kill everything in sight.

Load up a shit turtle like Raph with scrolls. It's as strong as a wounded Don, which can take out the jetpack guys in one hit.

I had to stop when he blew in the cartridge.
You see, I've been enlightened, and I can't bear it.
Yeah, it seems like a very hipster thing to do. It's the NES, so I need to blow in it first, harhar. I've seen so many people recall 80s/90s gaming, and say something like, "Yo, I had the Nintendo, and of course you had to blow the cartridge first!" Then they tilt their head into laughter. You were ruining your games! >_>

I just started my NES collection! Here is what I've bought so far:

front loader NES
two NES controllers
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario Bros 3
Mega Man 2
Excitebike
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Life Force
Bubble Bobble
Rad Racer
Punch Out

So far the only game I haven't been able to get to work is Punch Out. I ordered a used Top Loader NES off amazon, so maybe it will work in that.

Congratulations! Welcome to the club!
Great selection of games you got there.
Show pics! Dat game porn.

You know how to give the games a proper cleaning? I haven't had any old games I haven't been able to get working w/ a little Isopropyl Alchohol and a cotton swab.

I dip one end in the alcohol.. If it's really wet, I dab it on my jeans.. then I rub it horizontally on front and back of pins. Then do a a sort of vibrating vertical rub across the front and back, by shaking the cartridge while moving it left and right and pressing the swab in place. Then I switch to the dry swab which has more texture, to really get any dirt, repeating that cleaning technique. If it's filthy, you might need a second or even third swab.

And yeah, half of the problem could be the system's pin connector, so maybe try giving that a decent cleaning but you'll have to crack the system open to get to it.

Have fun, and don't spend too much money! Hit the flea markets and pawn shops to round up the common titles you want in your collection.. I don't think you ought to pay more than 4 or 5 dollars per game for the common stuff. I feel good at 2 bucks a game, 3 is alright, 4 is good if the games are worth it. Try trading here and on other forums with other enthusiasts. I don't mind picking up games I already have if I feel it's a great deal.. Those can be handy for trades with fellow collectors.

Actually, since I need to cut my game spending (been going a little crazy while off work for the month) I'm assembling a huge list of all my duplicate games on various classic platforms. Definitely take a look. I only have about 6 NES duplicates, as my NES collection is still fresh, but take a look anyway. I'll post here when I have it all together.

Have fun!

Welcome to the NES Club! That library is a great start. Varied list of games, hours of fun already. Envious of your MM2; that game by itself commands a high price, and I've not seen it locally of late.

I'm thinking of getting a top-loader myself. I just got a side-loader with a new 72-pin, which is working better than my previous unit, but top-loaders work so consistently well. My only gripe is the transparent vertical lines that show up when playing games on it. Not a dealbreaker, but side-loader is more "pure", IMO.
