Netflix |OT| Where Binge Watching is Encouraged

Saw the home invasion movie Hush (apparently bought by Netflix). A deaf woman living in the woods versus (seriously, what a match-up) against a playful, but brutal intruder. It's a fantastic movie. Any genre fan has to watch it.

Saw it last night and thought it was a nice surprise. It doesn't re-invent the wheel or anything but I thought it was well enough done. I also love me an hour and twenty minute long thriller. I've been watching so many 3 hour long flicks lately that I find a tight movie like this to be refreshing. So yeah, recommended and had some nice tension.

Movie was super dark though. Anyone whose TV glares from outside sunlight should definitely watch this one in a dark environment.

UK news: In addition to adding a load of Dreamworks films (but not How to Train Your Dragon 2, for some reason), Netflix has just become the local broadcaster for Orphan Black, so new episodes from season 4 will go up weekly.

Is that new, Netherlands has had that for last season as well. Didn't the UK?

Pretty sure that wasn't the case for us last season, though I could be wrong. It definitely has more "Netflix Original" branding and a "new episodes weekly" thing.

I *do* remember the BBC putting the entirety of season 3 up online last year. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

EDIT: Oops. (All the others are normal)

Just watched it. I thought it was a good movie. The only part I didn't like, and I thought was predictable what was coming next was the
scene where she is thinking up all the possibilities.
I know they set that up earlier in the movie, but it kinda broke up the pacing for me.

Netflix bringing more true crime to your screens:
Netflix Commissions Hostage Doc Series From Lightbox And Doug Liman’s Hypnotic
Academy Award-winning producer Simon Chinn and Emmy Award-winning cousin Jonathan Chinn’s multi-media banner Lightbox has been commissioned by Netflix to produce Captive, an eight episode series exploring hostage situations and negotiations around the world. Lightbox, which conceived the series, is teaming up with Doug Liman’s Hypnotic to produce. The deal has been in the works for some months now but was being kept a closely guarded secret to protect the sensitive nature of the filming that has been taking place.

From the highest profile cases to those kept hidden from the public, the producers have gained privileged access to some of the most challenging negotiations of recent times. The episodes look at a wide range of situations from the viewpoint of everyone involved: the victims and their families back home, the experienced negotiators, business leaders, government officials and the kidnappers themselves.

And more CanCon:
Netflix Picks Up Time Travel Drama Series ‘Travelers’ Starring Eric McCormack
Netflix has come on board Travelers, an original time-traveling sci-fi series starring Eric McCormack (Will & Grace, Perception). Netflix is teaming on the project with Canadian TV channel Showcase, which will air the series in Canada, with Netflix carrying it exclusively everywhere the service is available outside of Canada.
...
Created and written by Brad Wright, co-creator of Stargate SG-1 and creator of related franchises Stargate: Atlantis and SGU, Travelers is set hundreds of years from now when the last surviving humans discover the means of sending consciousness back through time, directly into people in the 21st century. These “travelers” assume the lives of seemingly random people, while secretly working as teams to perform missions in order to save humanity from a terrible future. These travelers are: FBI Special Agent Grant MacLaren (McCormack), the team’s leader; Marcy (Porter), a young, intellectually disabled woman in the care of her social worker, David (Gilmore); Trevor (Abrahamson), a high school quarterback; Carly (Cooper), a single mom in an abusive relationship; and Philip (Dolman), a heroin-addicted college student. Armed only with their knowledge of history and an archive of social media profiles, the travelers discover that 21st century lives and relationships are as much a challenge as their high-stakes missions.
...
Well, at least one of the projects sounds good.

terrace house is so weird haha...comparing it to western reality shows is interesting. cultural differences and all that. i like that its more like the OG Real World settings and people only live in the house and don't have some contrived job with their housemates

the people on this show are so polite and passive yet at the same time so forward when talking openly about the other house mates they are interested in. I lol-ed when the japanese guys were amazed that
the one hapa guy from hawaii revealed that he had gotten one of the girls to hold his hand on their first "date"

bummed that it stops at episode 18 as it just kind of ends abruptly. guessing they need time to sub-title? does only japan get new episodes weekly?

I think it's only 18 episodes. I've almost finished it, on episode 14 right now, but I think they mentioned in the introduction of episode 1 that there are only 18 episodes/weeks. Will have to go back to see whether it's true.
I really like the show, though there's some strange things in there due to cultural differences, like
when Arman enters the house and they instantly notice that he's still wearing his shoes, and they awkwardly shake his hand when he meets them

They are already well into season 2 in Japan. The translation is done that day, so they're ready for US whenever. I used to watch it religiously every week on Netflix Japan, but my VPN died :(
I wouldn't be surprised if Arman was a Gaffer.

Oh great, I hope they won't wait too long too bring it over here. Belgian netflix can be slighlty bare bones at time but the netflix originals usually get released the same day here.

Finished watching Ken Burns: The West. It's worth noting that the last episode is horizontally squished for some reason. Now on to Prohibition. Also, they took down Baseball and Jazz? Lame!

Finally decided to go back to Scrubs to be notified that it's not going to be available after May 2nd. This really sucks cause now I have to finish it quick and I won't really have time to rewatch any of it.

Been watching the CNN documentary series The Seventies. I'm enjoying learning about the decade which has been rather hazy to me knowledge-wise, but there's one problem: They do like FXX did to The Simpsons and crop the image horizontally to fit the 16:9 presentation. I know CNN is currently airing The Eighties (which I'm most interested in), but I've missed half the series, so hopefully that'll be up on Netflix soon. I also love the intros for each decade: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4Rswf_C3WU&feature=share
