Netflix |OT| Where Binge Watching is Encouraged

Hit & Run- Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell. Like the NYT said, "in a comedy that feels as if it were dreamed up in the wee hours between bong hits and shots of tequila". I enjoyed it, some chuckles.

That Masterpiece Classic episode of The Mystery of Edwin Drood that was just added is really friggin good. Highly recommended. In a similar vein, Bleak House and Great Expectations are both great as well - high production values and a ridiculously gorgeous Gillian Anderson in both of them.

Are you on a ps3?

Yes, I am. I still have yet to see Max, but I think that stems from me not being able to update to the latest version of Netflix...(still running 2.13) very frustrating, and have tried everything I can possibly think of, but it wont prompt me to update...

Oh well, doesn't sound like I am missing much.

The rivalry between Netflix and Amazon.com for online streaming content has been a boon to TV programmers, as the two are motivated buyers eager to one-up each other.

One week after Amazon.com touted PBS deal, Netflix is announcing an expansion of its multiyear pact with the pubcaster for a range of series and specials for streaming subscribers in the U.S. and Canada.

Netflix’s re-up with PBS includes two exclusive gets: Beginning this fall, streaming company will exclusively offer “The Bletchley Circle,” a British murder mystery miniseries produced by London-based World Prods. In 2014, Netflix will become the exclusive subscription video home of “Super Why!,” the PBS Kids preschool series aimed at helping tykes build literacy skills.

Amazon, for its part, is paying PBS for exclusive streaming rights starting later this year on all seasons of “Downton Abbey.”

Also continuing to be available on Netflix will be nonexclusive PBS content, including kidvids like “Wild Kratts,” “Caillou” and “Arthur”; Ken Burns docus including “Prohibition” and “Central Park Five”; and past seasons of nonfiction series including “Nova” and “Secrets of the Dead.”

A bunch of new Nova? Sweet.

Chasing Ice was an excellent doc, really impressive. Although unless you're a moron the Fox News footage will make you rage lol

Nova is good if I'm interested in the subject matter.

You should give Downton Abbey a shot. Give it a few episodes because the first episode is harder to get into.

I will give it a watch later tonight. I have been picking it off long enough.

Just know it's a period piece and you have to deal with strong British accents. It's not background viewing material.

Lol, I know what you mean. I can never put British shows/movies and not give it my 100% focus.

I don't mind it though. I think I will start that and New Girl. I don't think I can continue with Community.

Watching the first season of New Girl has been interesting because I started on that show with season 2. The characters are a bit more awkward than they become (especially Jess) and it's interesting watching it knowing how much better the show has gotten overall.

These were added yesterday on Canada's stream:

Akeelah and the Bee (Drama)
The Descent: Part 2 (Horror)
Daddy's Little Girls (Drama)
Everything Must Go (Drama)
Frailty (Crime, Thriller)
Hostel (Horror)
Hulk Vs. (Animation)
Igor (Animation, Family)
King of New York (Crime, Thriller)
Kit Kittredge: An American Girl (Drama, Family)
Planet Hulk (TV, Animation, Action)

Akeelah and the Bee is a great movie. Saw is crazy good. Hostel is a good (torture porn) movie.

I can give a resounding recommendation to The Fall, the BBC crime drama show. A gripping watch, five episodes, fantastic writing. Reminds me of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in thematic material.

The only bad thing is that we won't get new episodes until well into 2014.

Waitl, how do you fail to bold The Parallax View and Don't Look Now?!

Just watched Don't Look Now. Wow, that was a pretty interesting movie. Full of tension and paranoia. Also incredibly beautifully shot and just oozes with atmosphere. Having never been to Venice before it was really a joy to watch. It's a very ambiguous mystery/thriller movie that doesn't spell everything out for you either. Great movie!

Gonna check out Parallax View tomorrow.

Just woke up to the news and wanted to share it as well. Hilarious show, and even better in season 2.
Come for the Zooey. Stay for the Schmidt.

I'm only a few episodes in, but so much this. Schmidt is the man. And Cece is a looker.

Watching the first season of New Girl has been interesting because I started on that show with season 2. The characters are a bit more awkward than they become (especially Jess) and it's interesting watching it knowing how much better the show has gotten overall.

I have watched episodes here and there, but even I notice how awkward Jess can be. I'm still liking the show though.

I was watching some new girl season one last night too. Catching up on the episodes I missed when it originally aired.

And it's more like one for the Zoeey stay for the Nick. Schmidt's shtick gets old quick, but Nick gives me the most side busting laughter,

I watched River of No Return, which is one of the newer nature docs. Good hour long movie on a wilderness area out in Idaho which I didn't really know about before, focuses on the wolves that inhabit the area, but showcases other animals also.

Dear Zachary is a must watch, too.
Probably the most emotionally moving doc on/off Netflix, imo.

Man, you weren't kidding. It was equally a rage-inducing documentary. The love that those three people had was amazing. My heart sank when

they talked about Zachary being murdered. That made me tear up. Pissed me off too considering how easily that shit could have been avoided. I don't understand how any of those fucking people thought it was a great idea to let a (accused) murderer just have custody of a freaking kid. And the amount of delays that Kate and David went through is insane. Kate and David are saints, man.

Great film. Thank you for the recommendation. For anyone who is going to watch it, prepare to be anger at a lot of bullshit. But also to see how three people could affect the lives of so many around them.

Just watched 'The House I Live In'. What a terrific documentary on the War on Drugs.

As a Brit I'm not accustomed to the term but some of the sentencing in America is very harsh (on certain crimes) and I actually want to do some research in the sentencing in Britain and compare it to the US.

Well worth a watch.

If you liked that you should watch 'The Black Power Mixtape'. It's an amazing documentary about the black power movement in the 60's.

Looking for some good sci-fi (I wish they still had Moon)...

The Man From Earth was pretty awesome imo. It's about this guy who gets some of his friends together and tells them a wild story/revelation about himself. Don't want to spoil it, but it held my attention and felt quite thought provoking. The movie is pretty much all talking yet it didn't feel boring at all for me. Really fascinating stuff!
