Netflix |OT| Where Binge Watching is Encouraged

I just re-watched Commando and my god, it's the funniest action movie of all time

Absolutely. Back in the day, I had this on Laserdisc - my roommate and I watched this over and over so many times-we could do a Criterion Collection commentary track for it. One of my favorite parts is when Arnold runs into a parking garage and immediately gets hit by a car-and the impact is so great-you can see his wallet fly out of his pants-then later he is paying for something and pulls out his wallet.

When he drops Sully off the cliff, that car that was on it's side, scraping along the pavement-he flips it over so he can drive it-all of a sudden, the car is as good as new.

LET OFF SOME STEAM BENNET!

My parents have gotten me hooked on Damages. I'm four episodes in and its really good.

Great show, dude-and it gets even better!

Anyone have any good documentary recomandations for Netflix? Its all I watch on Netflix pretty much.

Having used Netflix for about 4 months the search engine is pretty shitty. Is there anyway I can scale down searches to specific preferences? Because I can't find it. I need to know the exact name of the documentary or movie, or Its incredibly hard to find one for my specific genre preference.

Netflix keeps eyes on wider library with extended CBS pact
July 8, 2013 | Joan E. Solsman

In the latest stage in their content arms race, Netflix extends its agreement for classic and recent CBS shows, after Amazon Prime starts streaming "Under the Dome" episodes soon after they air.

Netflix will keep getting CBS shows, and start getting new ones. They're just not brand new.

The online streaming video site and CBS, the parent company of CNET, extended their multiyear licensing agreement for select library content. The revised deal adds titles like "L.A. Complex,""4400," and "CSI: NY" to its current stock already available for streaming on Netflix, a mix of classic programs like "Star Trek" and "Twin Peaks" and more recent titles like "Jericho" and "Medium."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos indicated this update agreement left the door open for more. "We look forward to adding even more high-profile titles from CBS in the near future," he said.

Amazon just started streaming one high-profile CBS program, an exclusive. Last month, current, in-season episodes of "Under the Dome," based on Stephen King's popular novel, became available to Prime Instant Video customers four days after they air on television. The deal with CBS, struck earlier this year, made Amazon the only online streaming service to get those rights.

It followed an agreement with the online retailer in July of last year for 18 CBS series like "Star Trek,""Cheers" and "The Tudors" for its Prime Instant Video customers.

The two streaming competitors have been volleying licensing announcements back and forth. Last week, PBS was the source of the one-upmanship, and earlier this year, it was Viacom kids favorites.

While both are vying for exclusives and edgy originals to draw in new subscribers and retain the ones they have, Netflix has been the trailblazer on the latter, while Amazon has taken the upper hand getting exclusives for wildly popular programs like "Downton Abbey."

The streaming tv wars are like wrestling's Monday Night Wars, Amazon has a great mid card and Netflix has a great main event scene, combine the two companies and they're one awesome streaming service.

Twilight Zone seems to be missing seasons :(

Missing season 4 if I recall correctly. Amazon is missing them too. Only way I was able to watch them was on Hulu, commercials suck. Season 4 episodes are an hour long, which results in really dragged out episodes, worth checking out to see Dennis Hopper's episode "He's Alive". If it was cut down to 30 minutes it would possibly be one of the best Twilight Zone episodes.

Yea and it sucks because I only want to pay for one haha.

I'm currently doing a free month trial with Hulu and it's not too bad.

The only reason I subscribed was for Monday Night Raw(I hate that they cut out like 40 minutes of the show) and it's pretty awesome just for that considering I didn't have cable at the time.

If Hulu could strike a deal with WWE that includes full episodes of old Raws and Smackdown, they would have all my money. I would pay up to $20 a month for that shit lol.

Where's the 'Crackle Recommendation Thread of Dope Movies'? I don't know what changes they've made but there's no more ads and the video quality is better, no more artifacting. I watched Punisher Warzone and Stripes.

Really?
Last I saw, it was youtube quality artifacting & really low quality overall.
Crackle is still free right?

Hulu + Netflix + Amazon Prime does it for me. $8/ month for Netflix, $8 / month for Hulu, $79 / year for Prime.....solid. Less than $300 / year for my cable services, plus whatever I get a la carte from Amazon Instant.

Jackben

bitch I'm taking calls.
Have you guys seen this Max thing they are going to roll out onto Netflix? At first I thought it looked fairly gimmicky but the video made it look at worst a more amusing way to browse for something to watch. I'd rather do that than spend 15 minutes shuffling through titles, which happens all to often to me.

Will Unblock-us work on my PS3? That's where I do all my Netflix watching.
Yeah, you can program the PS3, or just use your router to do it for everything. I also see that UK Netflix has Dexter, homeland, and justified. Wonder why showtime blocks us Netflix. I don't see any other place for showtime stuff, they don't even have a hbo go like app.

Does the Swedish stuff have subs? I used the Brazil one and could not turn them off.

Showtime does have an app. It's called "SHO Anytime." Usually the reason other countries have content that Netflix US doesn't have is due to broadcast laws that prevent foreign companies from owning channels, so those companies are forced to liscense the shows to native networks. Being liscensed to those networks allows Netflix to make deals with those networks to get the content but they can only supply it in those territories.

Yup. Works with anything, just have to set the device up first.

Probably talking out my ass, but maybe they don't have as large subscription base overseas?

Yeah, it does. A lot of the other markets you can't turn them off. I always watch with subtitles on, so it doesn't really bother me. But that does suck for anyone who hates it.

Edit- Jest Chillin makes way more sense than mine lol.

It's more a minor annoyance then anything. If they have a movie I want to watch I'll just suck it up lol.

That must be new, before they just had some shitty app that showed clips. Now that I look it up, it only works for 5 providers, and cox is not one of them. It has like 2 stars in the iOS App Store lol.

I believe it is fairly new. I've only used it for like... 9 months maybe? It's a poor performing app on Android as well. You can get randomly logged out in the middle of shows and then will be unable to log back in for random periods of time. If you do have a cable provider that supports it and you want to catch up on currently running series though, it's worth it to deal with the issues. This is assuming, of course, that your own cable provider doesn't run it's own similar service. AT&T's Uverse, for example, has it's own website that does essentially the same thing but allows you to watch movies and shows from any premium channel you're subscribed to.

Well went to Crackle again & I can say their quality is as shit as ever.
4 solid bars along with the HD signal & the quality looks like the lowest settings on youtube.

Pretty excited for Orange is the new Black tomorrow. All the original content I've seen has been pretty good so far. Only show I didn't finish was Hemlock Groves.

To be fair, I'm watching it on a 32" 720p/1080i tv. When I first start up a video, it's artifacted to hell then clears up a couple seconds later. Someone else here said it's 480p which I would agree with, definitely doesn't look as good as Netflix or Youtube. I honestly don't know why I've been using it exclusively lately, I guess it's the no ads and selection that makes it for me.

Forgot this was tomorrow, definitely watching it as soon as possible. Weeds had a shaky run but when it was on its game it was one of the better shows on TV.

Same — I'm using an older Roku and not only are there more ads than there were in the past, but the content frequently never starts playing again afterwards, so I have to exit and resume. :(

360. There was an update I had to download when I opened the app a few days ago after not touching it for months. The only ad I've seen was after a movie, I can't remember if it was before or after the credits, probably after. Since then I've been watching an anime series, 3 episodes in and no ads. Then I went online to create an account and register my device to make a playlist/queue which I was certain would introduce ads but I'm now about 10 episodes in and still no ads, knock on wood.

Yeah, some of weeds was really great. Still haven't finished it, kinda started losing interest in the last seasons. Think I only have a few eps to go. I loved the opening songs though .

Reviews of OITNB make it sound promising. Didn't look like my type of show from the trailers but I'll at least give it a shot. Gotta be better than Hemlock Grove right? heh

I can't help but repeat this over and over, it is the best $5 you will spend in any given month.
It really is. It sucks that I have to add $5 to my ever-increasing steaming budget, but it opens you up to so many shows and movies. Canada has most of the shows Amazon locked up, the UK has some great British stuff, and Sweden is... well, heaven.

I wasn't too excited about Lilyhammer. Watched the first episode... meh.. ok I guess. Steven van Zand is basically Silvio from The Sopranos, I couldn't see any difference.

You can think of it as Silvio Goes To Norway, if it helps....but it's a really fun show once you get into it, and you never feel lost with the foreign language or like their are too many subtitles either.
