New Alienware QD-OLED Monitors, Laptop Updates | Dell at CES 2024

Alienware makes beautiful products but you don't see how their motherboards fail, also overheating things behind the curtain that make you avoid their products.
Looking at the online user manual this thing for sure has a fan, just hope it stays quiet for the most part

Lol I wish I didn't live in a shit (economically speaking) place like Brazil. I'm still sporting my '16 KS7000 TV... and I've got no desktop, just a moderately ok Acer laptop.

I absolutely love technology, one can notice that from my posts here. But it's so difficult here =(

Being such a huge nerd that I am loving tech like I do that would really suck.

Tech is my biggest vice that my wife has learned to live with (luckily for me) have so much unused stuff sitting around that we mostly donate when I tire of it

I have the 3440x1440 qd oled atm but I prefer gaming on the couch. If they put s bigger one on market ill consider swapping. 32" is way too small for me.

Damn.

Man I even started Tv website here just for fun because I love this stuff. Wish I had more money to invest in this. I'd do a more professional thing with reviews and videos, unfortunately it's out of the realm of possibility for me.

32" 16:9 OLEDs seem to be the thing this year.

I'm still waiting for a good upgrade from my 38" AW3821DW. Anything smaller is too small and the upcoming 39-45" 3440x1440 monitors are too low res.

The next good panel seems to be coming in Q4 2025. 39" Ultrawide OLED, 5120x2160, 240hz. A 45" version is supposed to enter production at the end of 2024.

I have had the AW34DW for more than a year and it's still great, I feel like I don't have the power for higher resolution than 3440x1440 yet. But I do want something larger. My next monitor will hopefully be something like 5120x2160px / 240 hz / 1400+ max nits / 21:9 and then somewhere between 38-42 inches which is probably the largest I would go. That feels like end game stuff, but my 4080 won't cut it in newer games then so would like to upgrade monitor when the 5-series Nvidia cards arrive. The 39" OLED you mention is that an upcoming Samsung panel or something like that?

I'd say you have a problem for wasting so much money in a just released monitor...
But just because im dying of envy because I cant afford one : (

I'm talking about upgrading in 2 years time at the point I'll have had this one for over 3 years. This one is great and hardly wasted. But there's always the next big thing on the horizon, hah.

So Alienware told me preorders will not go live until they are ready to ship on the 11th

My buddy from Best Buy THINKS their page goes live the same day

I was hoping to get this thing preordered but guess waiting 48 hours or so

Going to try and get mine from Alienware first but would prefer to get it via Best Buy as well then just return the one from Alienware

What made you go for this one specifically?

I'm also going for a 32 16:9 but feel like I don't have enough information to choose between multiple brands and configurations.

But I guess they are all variants of only two panels.. So in the end it's just a matter of panel type, curve/non-curved, glossy/matte finish, release date etc.?

If I am being honest simply because it came to market first

But also being honest not sure it will win the spot on my desk because of the AORUS coming supposedly next month will be the only 32" 4k 240hz monitor that has Display Port 2.1 and not 1.4 like this Alienware

Plus this Alienware not have a 3.5 mm jack out for audio really bugs me having a PC, PS5 and Series X waiting to be connected to it

$900 for 27"...

poor john travolta GIF
Early adopter tax. With that said, this is so much better than anything else in the market. And way cheaper/more affordable than the old high end mini-LED's of yester-year.

I remember ASUS trying to sell ROG monitors for nearly 3K for some 4K mini-LED a couple years back lol. Shows you how far we've come. And not being gouged (so much).

The 3 year warranty makes this one a strong option even without the 3.5 mm jack, that is annoying but there are work arounds.

What's the deal with the Series X if you have a PC? , just curious lol

Mini-LEDs are not even for the consumer market. Those TVs go up to 200k+. QD-OLED is definitely the future.

I have the Sony A95K QD-OLED and it's AMAZING.

You mean micro-LED? Mini-LED's are just mini backlights for LCD panels/screens like you'd find in a lot of higher end monitors/TV's. Micro LED's is a totally different technology won't be a thing for a while, true.

For now with how durable OLED's are getting and with better sub-pixels structure, they are way better tuned for desktop usage. Plus with how Samsung/LG stepped up production OLED's and now readily available from most large monitor manufacterers. And on top being relatively inexpensive its finally worth dipping in, for those looking for a good monitor upgrade.

Want the 27" QD-OLED… been waiting years for a near perfect OLED monitor to replace my 165 Hz 1440p ASUS Swift ROG PG279Q display with its weak blacks and horrid IPS glow and the Dell one is the closest yet. And it isn't curved, thank goodness! Last year's 27" OLED monitors were extremely disappointing for various reasons so I chose to wait.

Sadly, I live in the UK where there is no release date or pricing yet. :messenger_crying:

My adult son only games on Xbox so it's only used grouping with him in certain games. Since we live so far apart it's an easy way just to get to chat with him a little more often :)

This Alienware has me fiending. Is it wrong to think that if upgrade my already rad 1440p 360hz monitor to qd-oled then I might finally achieve happiness?

over 50 oled monitors releasing this year might wait to see what other options pop up. I want 32' without the curve.

This finally feels like the year where there's a bounty of sweet-spot OLED monitors. The Alienware 32" looks very appealing, but I'm not sold on the curve, since I tend to sit further away from the screen in my kickass granny rocking chair. :pie_sfwt:

Think I'll try to hold out until the AORUS model becomes available.

I heard that QD-OLED was bad because while it's brighter, it also adds chromatic aberration, or at least that's the case of Samsung's displays.

The lack of the 3.5 mm jack does bother me as much since it is mitigated by the PS5's ability to use bluetooth headphones with the dongle. I love everything about this Alienware monitor, but with one exception, and that one is a non-starter for me. This new Alienware monitor has 4K, OLED, 240Hz panel, with Dolby Vision, 2.1 HDMI ports and a glossy screen. But the curve in the 32 inch and OLED display is not warranted. I hear that there maybe a flat-screen version out later this year, so if I don't get the AORUS or the HP one by then, I'll get the flat Alienware one later.

That video says it doesn't support g-sync(dell website says otherwise)

It also says you can't change the resolution.
Can anyone confirm or refute this?

That video is full of mistakes. The Alienware monitor has a 1700R curve, not 1600R that was reported as well by that guy!

Does anyone know if the new panels have better support for work/office type workloads? Reviewers used to say it had some fringing or something around text elements.

Specifically eyeing the 27 inch model.

In the LTT video, they mentioned that the text fringing is a LOT better on these Alienware models. Still there, but much reduced.

For me, the tell will be to see how burn-in goes. Samsung Display panels seem to get it far worse than LG. I've got multiple LG OLEDs and have had zero burn-in issues.

The changing resolution monitors wont arrive until later this year and they even get brighter

That 4K LG 32" monitor is the one that I would like to buy, since it comes with onboard speakers (pixel sound tech that can be quite impactful since you'll be sitting right in front of the monitor), Dolby Vision, 1300 nits, and the simple fact that I'm already very familiar with LG OLEDs. But it also has a matte finish. There was another video preview where the guy stated that he can buff that matte finish off easily. Is that something that you PC guys can do easily if you don't like matte finishes on your monitors?

I personally would never attempt that because I know how that would go for me

Don't see why anyone would attempt that when you can just buy a monitor without the matte finish.

I am sure a monitor with similar specs will be available without the matte at some point.

Anything in the wearable space akin to the Nreal glasses?
I think there is Xreal next version which basically adds 6DoF, a Sony / Siemens industrial headset and upcoming Samsung Qualcomm collab.

Edit: That 32" 4K looks great, but I can't justify retiring my 42" C2 when it works fine. I will just wait till Nvidia 5000 series card release in a year and grab DP 2.1 OLED then I think. Unless I get FOMO… 😅

What about speaker hook ups?
On this Alienware seems only way to hook up speakers is to use an HDMI slot for eARC or like I am doing buying an audio extractor

Its likely why I wont end up keeping this monitor and going with something else once they get released

Have this one arriving next week to test with my consoles and PC will just use the headphone jack straight to speakers

I don't think so. Unless I missed something, the 32" LG 4K, 240Hz-480Hz is the only monitor that comes with the "pixel-speakers". My wife can't stand wearing headphones or earpods, and she doesn't want to clutter her workspace with speakers, so that leaves the LG 32GS95UE at the top of our wanted list. I just can't stand matte finishes, but she doesn't care as long as it comes with built-in speakers.

Have you gotten a shipping confirmation?

Seems a lot of people were upgraded to priority overnight shipping, says mine will arrive tomorrow which I didn't pay for that because I wont be home, having neighbor grab it for me
Shipped but I'm in Canada so delivery on Monday
