New Batman V Superman Stills From EW

I guess the only hero that really "needs" to be very muscular is Batman. There's no way around it. None.

Exactly this.

Her powers come from being a goddess/magic, not from doing sets at a gym and having whey powder. There are examples of buff WW from the comics, but typically she's not overly muscular. Linda Hamilton in T2 is human, so if she were slender she'd be weak. It's not comparable when talking about a superhero who has magical powers.

The actor they cast for Flash probably isn't the fastest man in the world, but I think it will be OK.

Powers, yes. But WW learned her combat skills from years upon years on training. That kind of training would put muscles on her frame.

Whoops. You are right. I grabbed the wrong picture

Same point though:

tumblr_momle62yDj1r3ao0wo5_500.jpg

She had on armor the majority of the time.

And for the record, I don't like the actress who play Lady Sif either. She's far too skinny to be some badass warrior. She has rail thin arms. It's simply not believable

No one is asking anyone to be "overly muscular". Just look like you have muscles.

As for your smartass Flash example. The Flash equivalent for this would be if they cast a guy who didn't look like he could run a block.

Don't you think the fact that a petite woman is standing up to major threats, throwing heavy objects, etc... might work though? The dichotomy between looks and ability can work well on screen. Think about River in Serenity, for example or the tiny gun in Men in Black. With WW what you would expect an actual human with her physique to do is irrelevant. She is a goddess.

Ripley in Alien
Sarah Connor in Terminator 1
and
Furiosa in Mad Max are all quite effective despite not being very muscular.

People love Lady Sif's actress and she's like 4 inches shorter than Gal and weighs around 110 pounds.

I stood next to Jaimie at a John Smith show she's like 5'6" or 5'7".

Why ya'll acting like Diana doesn't come from an island of women who epitomize the ideals of feminine grace, beauty and athleticism? Women who are accomplished warriors, hunters and athletes, equal to any man? Why ya'll acting like Diana didn't grow up surrounded by these women, training with them, hunting with them, running with them, playing sports with them? That her life would have been their life, one of honing herself to perfection? That she was their champion because she epitomized their world best, in mind and body, a title earned through years of commitment and training?

The way ya'll make it sound, anyone with superpowers could be champion of the Amazons because that's all it takes.

Affleck looks like a fuckin bear with no neck. Either he should have dropped the bulk or they should have made the suit thinner.

I think it works for Batman in this particular movie. Powered suit or not, he's a human facing an immensely strong extra-terrestrial. He should look physically imposing in the suit or the scenario just won't come across as remotely plausible.

Yes but they weren't fighting people like Superman.

You have to adapt casting, because if you cast the most extreme end of the spectrum away from muscular it looks silly.

Sif did not look threatening, and she has Asgardian strength. When she hit people it looked comical.

If you cast someone that looks threatening and fights it out and knocks people around, it looks much more believable. Like Faora. Even though she's wearing a suit, she did the training. She has the frame to look like she could punch the shit out of superman and vice versa and not have it look fucking absurd.

Superman looks the way he does because of how the sun affects on him. He looks the way he does in Flashpoint because he was deprived of sunlight for most of his entire life.

No doubt. And I think that's partially why Reeve's Superman is still the go-to. I mean, there's a TON of other reasons (his performance, of course, the music, the quality of the first two films) but I think it's because he didn't look like some sort of HGH-fueled man-beast.
Reeve was not skinny in Superman. He might not have been ripped (that really didn't become "the look" in live action until some time in the 90s) but throughout filming of the first/second movie he was continuing to bulk up and by Superman III he was a tank, he was pretty damn jacked at the time though they never really showed it and the suit didn't lend to showing off either.

True, but that image is just fan art anyway. I'm not sure if there has been a "canon" height in the comics for Diana, but I assume that if there is it is Gal Gadot's height.

Her canon height is 6', Gadot is 5'9", height wise she's close enough.

She had WRPG style female body armor on that didn't exactly give you the impression that she had a powerhouse figure.

Unless you are trying to say that it gave her the super strength, which I am pretty sure was not the case.

word. Gal will be fine. You nerds need to calm the fuck down with this shit. You didn't complain about Faora; you won't complain about WW.

On point. SAid it better than I did above.

Powerhouse? No. But the armor gave her a more imposing figure than she actually does IRL, which is part of an armor's purpose. WW doesn't get that luxury.

Yeah. She's really fighting someone of Superman's strength there. Ya really proved us all wrong! What a great example!

It was a response to a joke about 12 year old superheroes. So I posted a pic of a 12 year old superhero.

It had nothing to do with you and your ridiculous viewpoint. Nobody actually argued that a 12 year old girl could beat up Superman.

Can't say I disagree with the idea that she'd look night and day better in that wonder woman suit alongside those two with even just a pinch more muscle . She doesn't look like a warrior.

Nerds really?

Faora didn't have to pull off the Greek Warrior miniskirt look.

Even still with a slight height difference, Gadot looks narrow and skinny compared to Traue.

If you put Traue in the Wonder Woman costume next to Gadot I guarantee it would be way more convincing.

How is someone that is invincible supposed to build muscle through training? If you guys want to use that training excuse to body sham I take it you understand the biology of why weight training builds muscle?

or we can just drop that shit and realize this is fantasy. Size doesn't fucking matter. Depiction does.

And we have no idea how she looks in motion.

You're right, I'll wait and see.

Gadot probably gonna be doing some of that ol' muscle flexing whilst holding the sword or something. The work she put in will definitely be noticeable in the film.

Her trainer is the same one that trainer Henry Cavill for the role and the dudes on 300... she is no doubt putting in the work.

No issue with her body, she looks great in the costume. I'm more worried about her acting chops and no doubt, that's what people will gravitate towards (or against) when the movie releases.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about too. Snyder definitely saw something he liked, I just hope that the thing he saw was acting talent.
Guys do you think I have a chance against Superman if I hit the gym for the next year
Eat clean.
Train hard.
You'll be bigger than Superman in two weeks.

If they show Wonder Woman fighting in the next trailer, I'm sure many doubts would be put to rest. Snyder has an eye for visuals

I'm just going by every single one of your responses to anyone even suggesting it could possibly end up looking good. If you're this resistant to even the possibility it could go any other way than the one you obviously want it to, it's pretty convincing on your part that you'll see just what you want to see going in, and you appear to have quite a bit invested in seeing a Gal Gadot that doesn't work in the movie itself. If you didn't, you wouldn't be reaching so hard in response to every poster who questions that surety.

You're not gonna wait and see because you're already good, and you're not trying to hear anything different. I don't need to be Nostradamus on Valium to see that shit.

Her body type is not really conducive to the muscular look, but she's definitely put on some weight from the F&F movies.

EDIT: apparently the internet is lying to me today.

That... wasn't Gal Gadot.

Lifting oil rigs, of course.

Wonder Woman's not invincible, just stronger and tougher than a normal human because her Amazonian training unlocks potential inside us all she's been blessed by the goddeses of Olympus with special gifts she's a demigod like Heracles. And Heracles, as I recall, is generally depicted as having spent a great deal of his youth training in Greek sports and the arts of war and having a body reflective of intense physical training.

I don't have much faith in the director. These stills don't change that.

Oh well, I'm sure it won't be garbage at least.

When talking about a classic legacy character like Wonder Woman, I don't see what's wrong with preferring the thicker, more muscular physique we've seen before. Neither is it somehow wrong to like the more petite look. It's just a preference, and I really don't see why it's worth all this hubub.

Besides, Snyder will make it work, at least visually. I know not everyone likes how Sif looks in the thor movies but she's both graceful and strong and I had no problem believing she's a super strong alien goddess despite Jamie Alexander being tiny in real life. This is coming from someone who would have rather had someone a more formidable looking Wonder Woman than Gadot.

I dislike the casting. I think it's bad. I think it's damaging. I think it will look ridiculous.

Snyder cast her in the role because he loves petite skimpy babes as super heroes.

I think that casting or depicting rail thin women with super strength is absurd. I'm tired of seeing supermodel willow bodytypes playing these heroes. I liked the actress that played Sif, but Sif looked ridiculous knocking people around. It looked bad. How is this going to be any different?

All of the photos of Gadot training show almost no change in her physique. These photos in question show little to no change in her physique. So the odds of her being able to play the role convincingly in combat are really low.

Logic, past film evidence, and current photo evidence dictate the odds of her being convincing are really goddamn low. That's it. I reject the "turn off your brain it's magic! lol" as reasoning to counter photographic evidence.

But as that poster said, some things look better in motion. Who knows, maybe Snyder will find some crazy good art team that make it look real good when it's all CG. I haven't seen it yet.

But you're right I guess I'm life model decoy simulation of a republican presidential candidate incapable of changing viewpoints in the face of solid evidence (of which there is none yet to convince me otherwise).

That's the big takeaway from this post?

So to be clear your big counter argument was "shut up it's magic, it's super heroes, you lack imagination to conceive of a rail thin actress convincingly portraying Wonder Woman's super strength." And then you provide bad examples, tell me that I said the movie was going to be shit FOR SURE (when I didn't) and that I would never ever even be capable of being proven wrong when the movie comes out (Right).

Really? You've offered me nothing concrete. Cya.

Did you see any of the FF movies?

There's acting talent ...and then there's serviceable.

Antje may have been in armor but she atleast sold us on her physical prowess with her demeanor.

Hopefully Gal did more than physical training
