New comments from Ed Boon on remastering the old MKs!!

For context and for those who don't want to click and read through the fluff:

"Ed Boon was asked what he hopes to see in the future of the Mortal Kombat franchise, by fans at the show at the Cleveland Gaming Classic video game convention.

'"To me, there's two kinds of directions. One, I think we do need to continue moving forward with new content," said Boon, likely referring to DLC and other things for the 2023 release, Mortal Kombat 1.

Addressing the second part, Boon said that "There's a catalogue of 30 years of games, and a lot of high points in people's memories. Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Deception and Konquest, all of these pivotal moments."'

Personally I'd love to play 1-3 and Shaolin Monks again.

I enjoyed MK9 and it felt like a solid revisiting (while still continuing the lore). Not sure I need to play the older MKs.

They just need to add MK9 back to Steam. That was peak MK. Still felt like an MK game. But as an OG launch owner of the OG MK, I definitely would grab it if they just remastered it and ain't touch nothing because the current series (MKX-present) is absolute cheeks. Don't sully the past with the current garbage.

MK1-3 and Ultimate please. Keep the same charm of the original spirit though.

Also might as well just go fully into a Horror or 80's action hero franchise while your at it.

This is a real boon for MK fans.

Looking like its a matter of when, not if, and his comments seem to indicate theres more going on behind the scenes with this than he can talk about.

Regardless, this is great news and hopefully him talking about it means sooner than later.

I saw too many of his tweets and comments to put any stock in his words, unfortunately. He just loves to tease and nothing ever comes of it.

I'll only start believing when Shaolin Monks is on pre-order.

They should just port the original trilogy (or UMK3) to modern consoles without making any changes. Given the current state of Netherrealm they will definitely try to censor old models / outfits in the remasters to get rid of the female sex appeal.

You think you want it..
But you don't

Actually i do want it.....I played the 1st 4 MK's in the arcade to death, in fact i still know MK2 like the back of my hand. It would be awesome to revisit these games after all these years.

The fact that MK's 30th anniversary came and went without a collection already is a travesty. I'm sure its WB, though....Ed has said many times in the past he wants to bring them back.

Agreed on KI, what a game!!!

I think with the MK's though, if they were perfect arcade ports, that would be awesome!

but why, each release is basically a remaster, mostly the same characters, with a slight upgrade, and a new story, they also just reset everything with MK1, seems totally pointless franchise to do remasters, it'd be like remastering Forza or Fifa games.

I played Shaolin Monks recently and it's still great. They can keep all the other gamecube/ ps2 games. 1-UMK3 remasters would be cool if they did it right like those capcom collections.

God no, not from modern NRS.

Based on how they've redesigned legacy outfit designs, I'd rather they stayed far away from remastering legacy games.
