i must admit, seeing those stages from the flyby view, they look incredible. but.... (and i'm tired of saying this) where is the self-shadowing?

I was about to post that if any game needs self-shadowning, this is the one. But you beat me to it. :lol

The backgrounds look amazing, and the character detail is good. But the lighting really, really sucks.

Whered you play it?
on Dreamcast. i also checked out the 2 versions that they made on xbox with the upgraded graphics.

based on the footage that's been released, they're definitely on the same path of adding a new coat of paint, and nothing more. yes, i've read that they plan to make big changes to the gameplay, but that's bullshit and if you believe other wise... well, enjoy. the game was made for you.

Screw the haters, this looks great. If the scans or screenshots don't do it for you, at least check out the HD trailer of it floating around, pretty sure it can be found at Gametrailers. The city street level in HD is pretty incredible. If you still don't think it looks impressive then fine but it at least needs to be seen in motion and in high-res to get an idea of how it really looks

Nighttrain's just mad that he has no more street cred. It's a shame what he's reduced to now that everyone knows his insider schtick is a sham.

I greatly enjoy DOA's gameplay and mechanics even if sometimes they are not perfect.

I am a weirdo, a tard, a weaksauce gamer, the bane of GAF.

yep, that's what i do actually. be it losing credibility, getting turned down by a girl, having a shoot cancelled, losing my wallet, pretty much when anything bad happens to me, i get mad, and take it out on DoA for no good reason.

and for the millionth time, i never claimed to be an insider.

Why not just stop trolling this thread, Nighttroll? :)

Nightrain isn't the only one "trolling" (if you want to call it that) there are a chunk of people in this thread that think the games looks "Xbox 1.5" and that the gameplay won't be anything spectacular. Itagaki had how many Dead or Alive's to make great gameplay, what makes you think him and his team will rewrite the god damn fighting engine to make something Virtua Fighter comparable, fuck that--AT THE LEAST Tekken comparable.

Do I hope I'm proven wrong. Yes, of course. More money this shit worth of a series gets the more Team Ninja gets to use on new projects and other franchises I'm more fond of, but do I think it'll happen, no--I have my doubts.

The game looks amazing which leads me to believe that maybe after 4 straight gameplay failures, 5th time will finally be a charm.

Looks good. Too bad the motion blur is only for capture mode or whatever.

What's that black and white picture all about?

Game looks great. I like the motion blur, but I rather see the screens without it.

Hope venus is an unlockable for Lisa :lol

OK, this is my thing...if people want to complain that the series hasn't progressed very far, that argument is now almost 4 years old, when the last new installment of the series was released...DOA3. Now, four years later, the next new installment is being readied, with promised improvements and redesigns on the DOA3 fighting engine, and including one of the new ideas they implemented in the DOA2HC remake contained in the DOA Ultimate package, the sloping falls and throws.

Until the game is out and final, I'm confident that the engine will receive some pretty hefty redesign and improvements. Who am I to second-guess the creators of the game when I haven't even played the final version? There's certainly been no ridiculously awful history of not doing anything with each NEW installment of the series. DOA1-DOA2-DOA3 all had pretty sizable improvements and changes to the engine.

Looks quite nice, though as someone mentioned yet again, it needs self-shadowing.

And ignore Nightrain... he's just seeking redemption in front of the nintendo audience.

alright captain.

please tell me about all the depth that was added with each new addition in the series. infact, i'll try to make things easier on you, so don't even worry about depth, just go ahead and tell me about all the gameplay additions that were made that made each installment different from the previous one.

enlighten me.

how do you figure?

Right...I know you haven't played these very much then.

Anyone who can't see the differences in the gameplay between DOA1 and DOA2 is either blind or never even played DOA1.

DOA1 was roughly a Virtua Fighter clone, but with "Danger Zones" added to the sides of the ring.

DOA2 added multilevel stages, walls, and an extensive three-level counter system among other things.

um...this hardly has to do with it not being on a Nintendo system. or are we gonna start playing that card now? what's next, i only own Nintendo systems as well? :lol

i never liked DoA since after playing it a few hours the day it came out on Dreamcast. i lost even more respect for the series after all the shit Itagaki talked about Tekken.

in any case, if that's reirom in your avatar...genius.

Okay, as a person who has played each Dead or Alive game, but not 'master' them or anything (so this is a cursory impression) to me the games play the exact same damn way. Like I've said, I've played them, but it's not like I discovered every new exploit or what have you to see any major gameplay changes. But then, I'm not going to sit here and say there is a major gameplay difference from lets say Tekken 3 to Tekken 5 or anything either.

There is a flaw in your rationale, as far as I can tell, Team Ninja is one studio. You're right--in saying theres been a good 4 or so years between DOA3 and DOA4. But how many projects came out in between?

DOA XBV, Ninja Gaiden, Hurricane Pack 1, Hurricane Pack 2, Black, DOA:U, those are a lot of games/projects done in a 4 year span. I figure it--DOA4 has been in 'real' production for about a year / year and a half tops. Not 4 full years. No way, not even 3.

Hey Nightrain, I think it's best if you just walk away from this thread.

You've said your peace (and I do agree with a chunk of your statements, as do others.)

But you're obviously stuck in a "past-post-history" debate going on with a few other posters, which will lead to:

A) A ban
B) Multiple bans
C) No 'real' progess of the discuss at hand
D) All of the above

There is more than one team within Team Ninja.

Kuroyume: that has given me no choice but to make a beer run.

in anycase, those of you who think we're hating cause it's not on a nintendo or Sony system need to check out some good fighting games. there's quite an excellent history of them.

Point is, you've said it yourself "i never liked DoA since after playing it a few hours the day it came out on Dreamcast."

Why even bother with this thread other than to troll?

Johnny Nighttrain said:
meh.

that goes for the gameplay as well.

Why should I bother to "enlighten" you if you've already made up your mind? Of course, you've "never liked DoA since after playing it a few hours the day it came out on Dreamcast." How can anyone take your opinion even remotely seriously after giving that statement?

Actually, the Namco/Tekken guys talked shit about DOA first..to which Itagaki was only responding in kind.

sorry, but Itagaki is the unprofessional one here. PLEEASE supply links, scans, anything what so ever where namco has said anything bad about tecmo, team ninja, DoA, or anything for that matter.

as for my comments, i came to the conclusion after a couple hours of play. doesn't mean i stopped playing it afterwords. my friend went ape shit over the game, so i had no choice but to play more. the same applies for DoA3.

in any case, i don't expect you guys to try regardless, cause there's no argument you guys can make considering that well, it's been the same game since DoA2 hit. denying that will only result in some type of "only cause it's not on sony or nintendo systems" comments it seems.

but hey, like i said earlier, if you can't realize that, well then enjoy, cause the game was made with you in mind.

I'd also like to say I'm not going head over heels for Tekken 6 either. Just to say that so no ass-hat puts me in the "he must be a fan of Tekken [6] that's why he's hating on DOA4" category.

To what mythical gold standard are we holding this series and, therefore, the creators, Team Ninja, against? Aside from personal preferences, the game has evolved just as much as the Tekken series has in the first three installments, IMO. I don't think it's as pronounced in its evolution compared to the VF series, but that is a special case, where the first title was the pioneer in this genre. How many projects Team Ninja has produced in between real installments in the series is irrelevant. This upcoming DOA is the fourth official installment in the series...and not a remake, reissue, and/or spin-off.

you really think that the jump from DoA2 to DoA3 was as big as Tekken 2 to Tekken 3?

I'm just happy that this thread resulted in a photoshopped image from japans favorite comedic team 'Downtown'.

Gotta love the magnet twins.
