Wut, who told you that, the movies themselves got so much attention because they are canon and toriyama is involved with them.
Most movies aren't, or at least they don't matter because nothing that happens in them is cared, but the newer movies are different. They're officially continuations of DBZ's storyline.
Current, official, Canon that this new series is working off of is the Manga and BoG and F. Which are the only two Canon movies.

Goku and Piccolo would've known of Gohan's power before Raditz and Krillin would've known about Gohan before meeting him at Kame House.

There are a few minor hiccups here but for the most part I see no reason why this couldn't have happened pre Raditz. It even has more of a classic Dragonball pre Z feel to it.

Bojack is the only pre BOG movie that fits pretty snugly with the canon. It's not very good though.

That weird wording has only been used in the American press release, the Japanese one is much more vague, only saying that it's after Buu without all that embellishment. I don't see how it could happen right after the Buu Saga and have a villain stronger than "Buu and Freeza", which was mentioned in the Japanese news.

It is not canon. Broly being a popular character doesn't mean his movie is canon.
I don't feel like it's a perfect fit, because future Trunks is in there.

It's actually mentioned in the movie that he returned from the future to tell them about how he beat the Androids. Bojack's movie also addresses something that the manga completely ignores (Vegeta saying that he won't fight anymore at the end of the Cell Saga).
It's anime canon, since it does set up the Garlic Jr. saga later. But rule of thumb is that if it wasn't in the manga or the two new movies, it's not in Toriyama's canon.
Dragon Ball Super is a Toriyama canon thing, which follows:
- Dragon Ball manga (Kanzenban Edition)
- Yo! Son Goku & Friends Return animated special
- Battle of Gods animated film
- Jaco the Galactic Patrolman manga
- Dragon Ball Minus manga
- Revival of F animated film

Krillin doesn't meet Gohan until moments before Raditz shows up. In the Dead Zone Krillin knew Gohan already.
Right, but I'd be surprised if they don't bring him into canon-hood. If that makes sense. He's popular enough that I can see them making the effort to do so.

There's nothing wrong with Tapion giving him a sword. It's just stupid how they try to imply that it's Future Trunks' sword with the credits. Which obviously makes no sense.
