New Durango devkit Pic?

Far Cry 3's was exactly that and it looked better than the PC version. I even know exactly what mission it was.

I didn't follow FC3 pre-release, were they really demoing a vertical slice so close to release? Seems odd.

If I remember correctly, his claim was that the Durango dev kits were significantly more powerful than the final version, hence the games looking significantly better at E3 than the retail release.

That's it. Thanks.

His comment wasn't in relation to dev kits but games looking better at their unveil but undergoing a downgrade before launch.

It's something that doesn't really make a lot of sense, unless they show unplayable demos or engage in a campaign of smoke and mirrors not unlike the one Gearbox engaged in with Colonial Marines.

This makes no sense. Why would there be a noticeable downgrade between E3 and launch?

Read it again. He was just messing around to keep Sony-GAF from imploding (or so he says his intention is).

I think Thuway had a point that given MS's consistency in target performance which was reflected in their dev kit, the initial showing may carry somewhat better result than what was shown off on PS4. It should be most pronounced when their first party offerings are unveiled. I can't even begin to imagine how good Halo 5 is going to look.

I don't doubt that next xbox games might look better for the reasons you and others have stated.

Perhaps so, but it's the comment about a noticeable downgrade that perplexes. He could just say that games will look better on next xbox for the reasons listed, but he makes a point to claim that games will undergo a noticeable downgrade from E3 to launch.

Such a thing simply doesn't happen unless they show demos that aren't representative of what the games will look like (Killzone 2, etc) or show vertical slices/unplayable demos, but such a thing isn't likely with the console rumoured to be releasing this year.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but some clarification on the noticeable dowgrde comment would be nice.

If Durango games are shown real time at it's unvailing, they will not be downgraded when it goes to retail. If that was actually said its complete and utter bollocks.

What would mandatory installs do for both next gen systems, since developer can bank on it being standard?

It would greatly improve load times and texture streaming. I want PS4 to do the same install thing as the Durango after reading about it. As long as they let me freely delete and reinstall as needed it would be awesome, especially if you don't have to wait through a long install screen. I wouldn't mind if I need to keep the disk in like on the 360.

I'm expecting some of the Durango stuff to look better or at least very close at the April event. There have been rumors that they've had final silicon since December. If devs have been working closely with the final spec for a while the games will look much closer to final than the PS4's did. They'll also have had an extra two months of dev time anyway.

Decrease load times and streaming issues over using the disc.

Would be funny if every dev pulled a Halo 2 like Bungie.

+ Alleviate pop in issue (hopefully)

Also, PS4 would definitely have installation given PS3 has it and the game sizes will only increase from here on out and the optical reader's speed will still be a far cry in performance compared what a 5,400RPM 32MB (Cache) 2.5" SATA is capable of.

I think it will be a form of background installation (after perhaps a small initial installation, if not fully background) much like Gran Turismo 5.

Reduce load times, help with pop in issues, help with open world titles as there would be no streaming from the disc.

It's actually pretty great, but it's game dependant for the most part. A game like CoD might not benefit greatly from a mandatory install, but a game like Fallout 4 or Witcher 3, would benefit greatly.

Indeed. Which is why I'd like him to clarify his comment.

As am I, but I find the comment about noticeable perplexing. I know I'm giving it far more attention than it deserves, but it's something that's really stuck out in all the various arguments/discussions due to its odd claim.

Wouldn't it just.

I still want the game that was the Halo 2 reveal.

Don't we all. I can't begin to describe how bitterly disappointed I was when it was revealed the now infamous E3 demo wasn't representative of the final product.

I hope to the gaming Gods that no games next gen have UE3-esque texture pop-in.

That was definitely the point where Bungie had to go through some growing pains from being a small talented studio to having the expectations of a platform holder and millions of gamers on their shoulders.

Man,

I can see it now, a demo of UE4 at the april durango unveiling looking better then the PS4 UE4 demo

and ignorant gaffers saying stuff like

''holy mackerel that secret sauce, move engine esram makes the ps4 look really bad''

''haha to all the durango graphics naysayers you can go eat many crows now''

and tons of gifs of kaz crying and don and Steve baller kicking kazes ass.

it will be crazy

You dont

but if you actually read the thread ppl were saying how the PS4 devkits have gone from 2gb + 4 core CPU to what they are today, where MS has been more consistent with there dev kits having 8gb ram + 8 cores since the very start.
