New English Gameplay of Xenoblade Chronicles X

So Carina Reeves is one of the VAs for Cross? I might have to roll a female since I love her voice so much.

...provided that Adam Howden somehow isn't one of the male voices, of course.

Shulk's Japanese va (Shintaro Asanuma) was one of the options in the Japanese version, so maybe he'll turn up somehow.

Agreed though, Carina Reeves is great and I'm happy if she's involved in this.

This would probably be a co-production between Cup of Tea and a London studio (Side UK or OMUK) like Fatal Frame V was if they were able to get actual VAs from England.

Kinda going off-topic but a lot of the Japanese avatar voices were callbacks to previous Xeno games. Eiji Miyashita (Reyn), Hideyuki Tanaka (Citan), Shiori Katsuta (Melia), Ai Maeda (Shion), and Mariko Suzuki (KOS-MOS) were all options. And as a bonus, so was Daisuke Namikawa (Sagi from Baten Kaitos Origins).

Is that the actual music that plays when flying around in a Skell? Um... okay.

Oof. They should've enlisted the same English voice actors from its predecessor. These "anime caliber" voice actors are really, really bad.

My biggest issue is the silent protag dialogue.

So honestly I have to say I'm pretty hyped about it considering nothing else really bothers me. December can't come soon enough yo.

The gameplay is excellent, but my God that UI is huge, it blocks 3/4th of the screen. It was very distracting during combat.

EDIT: That music though. After one hour of hearing that shit looping you'll be driven mad. Can't understand why they would add lyrics to overworld music.
The overworld music dont have lyrics, thats the Flying theme...
Here is an example of music from the 4th continent
There are like 7 different kinds of mechs, all customizable. The ones in the battle video I guess are the generic kind. I mean there's another video in the OP with a different kind of mech with huge cannons on its back.
Yep, I guess the only mech that isnt customizable is the Ares.90, but it's a endgame mech anyway.

GAF – can you give me some feedback? I’m interested in playing this but one problem I’m having from watching vids is the tiny service area during battles. There’s so much HUD clutter and info bordering the screen, it seems the viewable area is small and not very serviceable. It appears much less intrusive during exploration, but I’d like your opinions, especially those who have played it. Two shots below depict what I’m referring to, one in Skells and the other on foot battling the ball-chinnian chicken.

Do you find the battle area in the center of the screen sufficient?

No matter how many times I see it, and even when I know it's coming, and even when I know what to expect, I am never prepared for Lin's character model.

I have a legitimate physical reaction, it makes my stomach churn and my hair stand up.

I cannot work past or through the repulsion. I have never reacted this way to something so innocuous before. But that face, and that body, triggers a genuine sense of disgust for me.

I don't know if I'll be able to play the game. If I'm not over it now, perhaps I will never be. Maybe I shouldn't be trying to get over it, either.

Although, as has been pointed out, a helmet is certainly an option.

I'm not trying to derail the thread to another debate over her character model though, so please don't use my comment as a surrogate OP.

I'm glad that the game is finally getting some English coverage.

Coming out too close to the Holidays, and my brother is already getting it for me. Looks like I'll be waiting until the 25th to play.

I like how the player turned his mech into a slower moving tank, the ones I've seen before this seem like they must've just been the standard builds. Also, the voices are fairly well done.

One fifth, approximately.
Mmm i may be wrong but i don't think you can see the entire continent of Primordia from up there. He was close to NLA when he went up.
O_O!

...The game must be massive then XD!
It's 400km2, around 10x bigger than Skyrim and 3x bigger than The Witcher 3 (all regions).

Apparently Elma is the main character, not the silent avatar.

You can turn everything off, outside of the things you need for battle, that accordingly only shows up when you are in battle.
You can make it like this for example (outside of battle)

Not gonna watch but I'm really excited for this, it'll rule my life for a few weeks. I'll be happy if it's even half as good as Xenoblade.

I've seen so little that I don't even know what to expect.

When you're playing the game, I don't think that really matters.
In battle you're only focused on a few certain things, so you don't even notice the rest.

I understand, I guess I was curious if people felt the action area in the center was enough space, not if the hud is detracting. The hud seems to take up so much space it only leaves a small playable area in the center.

Looks nice, I think I'm good in exploration mode. I was curious how people felt about the (what appears to be) tiny area in the center of the screen partitioned as the viewable battle area.

Quick question, I have watched all of the videos in the OP but the second video. Are there spoilers in the second video?

I played the first Xenoblade when it released in the States and again on New 3DS; I love the music and environments and the sense of scale and wonder and exploration.

I have the sequel paid in full in advance, but I can't shake this feeling that less plot and more mechs are not what I'm looking for in a sequel. The gameplay was great in the first game, but it was mostly a means to an end of seeing more of the story and grand environments.

These characters look a little frightening, honestly. And grinding for grinding's sake, I uh, I just don't know if I want to Monster Hunter this franchise.

Oh yeah, I personally hate the small space, but that mostly only happens because people zoom way too close, you can zoom out a lot and control the battle better.

Well the game is all about exploring and discovering new areas and environments, which makes sense since the point of the game is colonizing this new planet and surviving.
The story follows that, with a less ultimate main quest and more meaningful (story-wise) Kizuna, and normal quests.

Only that the Growth are now called Ganglion and that they take the fight to New LA at some point in the game.

Sounds great but jesuschrist I can't stand all of that insane amount of text and crazy icons on-screen while battling. All of that info is it really that necessary to display while fighting? Can it be turned off?? PLEASE tell me it can be turned off. Other than that, game looks ace.

You can turn off what you dont use in battle, like the map for example. The rest you will need unfortunately, the game just happen to have a really deep combat...
And you still have the soul voice menu which Andre didnt show :p
But dont worry, as I said you can zoom out, so it's not like the menu will affect your ability to see things.

I've avoided just about everything on XBCX up to this point, but I had to check these out. Wow, the scale of the world is just insane. Even as a big supporter of the system, it's hard to believe that this is all running on the Wii U. I miss the accents of XBC's characters, though... that localization will probably be remembered as one of my favorites.

I think you'll still be happy with the voices in this game.
Particularly, two of them.

Thank you! Well that's not too bad. I guess after a few hours of gameplay you will get used to the HUB while battling, plus the abbility to zoom out.

Maybe it's just me but Tatsu sounded kind of weird compared to XBC's Nopons. Maybe it's the missing accent. Otherwise, very good voice acting.

I can't speak of Xenoblade X, but the HUD is basically the same as it was in the first Xenoblade, except it was much worse with SD resolution. That said, I never had a problem with it. Some people feel a bit overwhelmed with the information overload, but for the most part I completely glossed over all the text and numbers. Most of the information is really only there when you need it. And as far as the size of the battle area, the people who describe both Xenoblades' battle systems as quasi-turn-based or MMO-like are not wrong. You move around and everything happens in real-time, but the visual portion of a battle is mostly a novelty, as is typical for menu-based RPGs (as opposed to action-RPGs).

So though the systems are very different, the interface atleast is near identical to the first Xenoblade with slight improvements thanks to the resolution.

The 7:40 point in the GameXplain video. :)

Hopefully this means we might see some coverage from IGN, Nintendo World Report, and other outlets. Or maybe they're waiting until after Fallout 4 comes out. That should be the last big game for the holiday and might allow XCX to have some breathing room for it's coverage before it releases. Hopefully.

The gamexplain preview mentioned that a more detailed preview was coming next week because he was embargoed from talking more about the game. I imagine that's when we'll see more impressions come out from other websites.

I tend to prefer voiced mcs to silent protagonists, not that I really mind all that much if a game has a silent protagonist, but what bothers me here is the abrupt pause when Cross has to say anything.

Was the square-tache mention a reference to that dude from Xenoblade, or is that a common thing to say about mustached people.
