New English Gameplay of Xenoblade Chronicles X

So despite having it preordered at a good discount (saving $30), I'm thinking about cancelling. I'm having a case of "this game looks too big & daunting, I think I should just skip it, I have enough games in my current-gen backlog as it is"
But it's one of those games that's made for either long bursts or short bursts. Plus, no other game has giant robots.
At least go fight each other in giant robots!
I will accept this.

I had only the fight art available, what to do?
Should have been working on your affinity tree!

True for you. Not everyone has the same opinion as you. I still think hunting monsters, exploring the world and look for a lot of loot, even if its not important for the story, is something you can truely enjoy even if the game isnt as story driven as the first one. Maybe the game is not your typical JRPG like the first one but its not an soulless MMO like you try to make it...its an interesting mixture of both and has it flaws but there are more than enough things that makes this game special and enjoyable.

That's the thing, though. All there is is monsters in the open world. You're not going to find interesting items or characters or really anything else with which you can interact unless you have the pre-requisite quest (almost universally received from NPCs in town). That's fine if you just want to fight monsters, but your statement made it sound (to me) like you can just set out into the big world and do whatever you want. That may be true to an extent, but there are a ton of mechanics and features locked behind specific missions, so you'll hit a wall fairly soon.

You just can't help it, no? I'm looking forward to the review threads and you "correcting" those too.

I don't see the problem with correcting wild claims that way oversell certain features of the game.

I doubt there will be much to correct in the review thread since the information in it should be coming from people who actually played the game.

Sooooooooo happy to get full confirmation they kept the lyrics in. Can't wait to listen to good ol' Sawano while flying around in a mech. Insanely hyped for this game even though I won't be able to play it till a week after launch becuase of finals

Tatsu sounds really weird, but so did Riki when I finally played the first game in English. Can't wait to see how they translated some of his nonsense dialogue.

They could have done a better job showing off the battle system in those videos with the cutscenes, though. Their dolls/skells barely had anything equipped, so they just stood there looking silly for most of the fights.

Well they just got the review copies yesterday.

They said they recorded the videos at a preview event, so everything was likely setup beforehand

It's just her voice actress doing one of the female voices for your avatar.

Oh ok thanks.

What are you talking about? The game still has long cutscenes and tells a good story but a lot of it is hidden in the sidequests what is a little bit (absolutly) stupid. But saying its an "empty world" with "no story" is just wrong. The world is as empty as the one of the other Xenoblade. The main content and focus is to explore and engage big enemies. It was the same for Xeno Chronicles...the main difference is open world vs smaller linear worlds which were very story driven. If you're okay with finding your own path Xeno X gives you the freedom to do so.

I don't see an issue with there being story in the sidequests. A ton of time in Xenoblade is dedicated to completing quests so I'm glad they're fleshed out more.

The 3rd survival guide will cover skell combat. Here are the previous 2 in case you missed them =)
Don't worry, I'm plenty familiar with the robotfighting in the game, I just thought it was an unfortunate example that the people who watch these videos will have to sit through.

Which is even more bizarre. That means that someone setting up the preview thought it would be a good idea to show them off like that :p

That's what I thought, also is Tatsu voiced by the same person that did Teddie in P4 or just sounds alike?

I'd like to know this too. (Here's a timeskip to Tatsu's line for anyone that needs it: https://youtu.be/xsaO1m1-_W4?t=114)

At first I thought it was Teddie's English voice, but it might be someone else. Thing is, I have heard this exact voice before, but I can't quite figure out who it was, and I can't remember which games I played through with the English dub.

Edit: Okay it probably is Teddie I was thinking about.

Whenever people talk about how story driven Xenoblade Chronicles proper was, I'm always in awe because for me it wasn't until the last 3rd of the game where you're pretty much tripping over cutscenes. Most of your time before that however, you're mostly exploring the its huge world while occasionally getting story beats sprinkled throughout.

This looks largely the same, at least to me.

Hmm, I don't know, some very dramatic things happen early in the game
like Fiora's death
and the game is filled with plot twists and establishing emotional connections between characters. Sure, you are exploring and doing sidequests, but the game is very linear in that you always have a place to go to trigger the continuation of the main story. That's the big difference with X, that there isn't that kind of linear progression and therefore a less 'epic' story. Of course I have no idea, since I haven't played it, but that's the impression I get.

The big difference is that you always had a goal and you were always progressing through the world in a fairly linear or guided fashion, even if it was through massive environments that offered some stuff to see off the beaten path.

X is set up like an MMO with a single town/quest hub.

Dude I'm sorry Xenoblade X apparently killed your parents, but at some point you need to let it go. Between this and the other thread yesterday(?) you're like every fourth post. I get you don't like the game. It's still okay for other people to like it.

Besides that, game continues to look pretty as all hell! Draw distance is certainly... Something, and voice acting seems pretty on point!
Let's just hope that flying music doesn't get overbearing. Sawano pls...

Well, you held a generally minority opinion in what were overall positive impressions from Japanese GAFers. I get that you're passionate about your issues with the game, but it's a little disingenuous to assume that you hold some sort of truth over how the game will be received, especially when most impressions held the opposite. Even someone like Bebpo, who didn't love the game as much as most, still gave it a B. So, dunno.

Has there been any real reviews of this game yet? It's been out in Japan since April. Wondering if I should still get it, I've sort of lost interest.

I still really want this, but I'm way behind in my Wii U game buying. I still haven't picked up Splatoon yet.

Hell I just got Bayonetta 2 a few days ago lol

The Japanese professional reviews have been largely positive on the game.

I actually do think the game is pretty good, but it has a ton of issues. It's unfortunate that your excitement about the game has you taking offense at any post that isn't unadulterated hype, but don't expect that to stop me from posting information about the game or correcting false statements.

I've got the same facts as the other people who actually played the game. Also, again, I wouldn't have played the game for over 50 hours if I hated it. It's just that it has a lot of major issues that people interested in the game should probably know about. I'm trying to lay out the facts as plain as possible. Whether or not those are major issues for other people, too, is up for the individual to decide.

Which ones, specifically? Some people were quoting something about an outlet calling it a "masterpiece" in the other thread, but I failed to find it.

Famitsu gave it 8s and 9s.
Sounds to me like on the worse side of fine, the more I listen. The first game's VA was pretty wonderful. This is... not that.
The main cast of XB were great. The supporting cast was kind of hit or miss. X sounds more than fine, honestly.

The point is that your opinion is no less and no more important that other opinions from those who played the game and yet you feel the need to post it over and over and over again. In every thread. I think everybody on this forum already knows by now that you don't like the game (to say that you did like it but it has flaws is in full contradiction with the tone and frequency of your posts about it and even disingenuous).

If that's what it seemed like you were doing, fine. And if that's your intention, great! You should know that it's not quite coming across that way -- it's more coming across as a thread hijack in multiple Xenoblade threads. I don't doubt that you enjoyed the game yet found it frustrating, yet it's also frustrating to have threads just these seemingly derailed. I'd save it for the review thread, which will inevitably be a mix of both very positive and good-but-not-great impressions that we got out of Japan, or when more people actually get to play the game or are looking for impressions.

That draw distance is insane. Damn, this can't come soon enough, people are losing their shit over Fallout 4 or Battlefront but I'm easily more hyped for this.

The poster in question linked to the Dengeki review. I can't read Japanese so I can't confirm.

But like,
Ryzz
's VA is straight dumpster fire.

Nor do I think it is, which is why I'm sticking to facts.

On your other wild claim of everyone on the forum knowing that I don't like the game:

1. It's not true that I don't like the game--that's just you projecting your hurt feelings or whatever.
2. The previous thread about general excitement for the game is more than enough proof that no, not everyone on this forum was aware of my impressions on the game.

Also, there are plenty of Xenoblade threads I haven't posted in. The search functionality built into this forum or Google can help you there.

Anyway, nice post policing.

Which part do you think is derailing, honestly? Telling something that their post (which ostensibly was written to get other people excited) contains factual errors is not a derail in my mind.

Let's just hope that flying music doesn't get overbearing. Sawano pls...

I love the flying music, but it is a bit frustrating that it starts from the very beginning every time you take off, even if you just barely touch the ground.

I consider anything with a boss battle to be scored that high honestly. N it looks crucial to the story. So take heed.

I just watched it and have no idea what I actually saw. But I think I'm interested.

This game seems to have a darker tone than XC. Would anyone say that's true? Also wondering, are the characters more interesting than the shallow, cliched ones from XC?
