New English Gameplay of Xenoblade Chronicles X

I watched a Gamexplain cutscene vid, and god it was terrible. Static standing poses and moving mouths for the whole thing. This is compounded by the horrible character design...

For comparison I watched a random Xenoblade cutscene and kind of just want to replay that :/

Yeah I don't know how accurate this would be to say but from what I can see, this game seems to have a lot more of Xenoblade's standing-around-mouth-flap level cutscenes than the really well directed more action oriented ones, which would be dissapointing.
It also might be possible that it has the same amount of the higher budget actiony scenes but spread out over a longer game. I hope that's the case since the non lip flap cutscenes in Xenoblade were really fun to watch.

Like 85% or so of XC cutscenes were like that too :V

perhaps i just got lucky in the ones i watched, but I can't recall them being that lifeless. i'm sure Xenoblade was guilty of it here and there, the game is massive, but on the whole I remember lively characters and some really well done animations. i've searched through a lot of X clips, and unless they're just hiding them, it seems really dull so far.

Any non main quest cutscene in XC was very basic in terms of animation from what I remember. Then there were also a ton of quests that were just brief bits of text. Like sometimes you'd just get a long list of quests from an NPC asking you to go collect or kill something with a small explanation for why, and when you completed it you'd get a little congrats screen.

I imagine the sidequests in XCX are similar, but with more of the "basic animation looking" quests with bits of story in place of the simple throwaway collecting missions.

7:00-9:35 shows both types of cutscenes in Xenoblade. The majority consist of the characters standing around and talking while the higher budget cutscenes are saved for major events. I'm guessing people tend to remember the higher budget ones more because they're much more, well, memorable.

This game took 4 years to make, original XB also took around 4 years because they did everything by hand, dont know how this game looks procedurally generated to you though, I believe overside can provide more information but he is probably avoiding this thread because he's on blackout.
Ok so you don't have a source. And 4 years isn't shocking for an open world game, see Witcher 3, GTAV, MGSV, Just Cause 3, Red Dead, Watch Dogs all have similar dev time, hell the first GTA game took that long.

I've been looking forward to this as I'm a HUGE fan of the original, but I really *hate* the music. Why on Earth did they get a composer who has worked on one other game besides this? The anime music sucks and I'm so sad about it. The original had some of the best music I've ever heard. This one? freakin jpop. So disappointed :(

Blame the director as he handpicked him and deemed Sawano the chosen one for the project.

This music fits the setting and world far better. You might not like anime music, but Xenoblade X is literally an anime game. It's the right choice, and the soundtrack is fantastic.

You know...the most songs are just instrumental pieces and most of them are frwaking amazing and on the same lebel if not above the ones in Xenoblade Wii. I mean...just listen to this:

That Sawano hate is so freaking stupip.

I think the Xenoblade OST is objectively better, and subjectively I prefer moody instrumentals to loud vocal tracks. But the notion that X has a bad OST is hyperbole. It's pretty good.

Holy shit, some kind of Voodoo getting thus running on the U? I really need to buy and pls the first game so I'm ready for this. It looks amazing.

How time consuming is it to go to the city from the field before you get your mech? Like is there a lot of busy work at the beginning? No fast-travel right?

I'm kind of overwhelmed at the possibility of navigating that huge city to get equipment, missions etc.

Nevermind the world itself but the city looks massive, I can see myself losing time/interest if there isn't a faster way to navigating the city after the first few times.

I'm still getting it day one, no game offers me the ability to customize and fly a mech in a huge world like Xenoblade.

The game looks beautiful but sorry good god does the soundtrack seems repulsive. If the game actually has a good and intriguing story and cast then I'll try and learn to tolerate it, but I'm honestly not sure I can do so to the point where I'll actually buy this game. :/

That is not the who soundtrack for God's sake, I can show you some songs but Sony cracked down on the OST recently the asshole so I can't show you proof of the variety that is apart of this OST

edit: People lost the ability to spell in the last few posts lol.

Are these just a handful of odd tracks? (The fact that they came on while flying around in a Doll and fighting battles is worrisome.)

Music I think is a huge part of how the worlds in JRPGs are experienced. Having it presented with what sounds like a low-rent Bemani album is a huge turn off.

The walk/running speed is way higher than xenoblade's as your gonna be running like a olympic athlete and jumping 6 feet in the air but yes you can fast travel and open up more routes to fast travel to.

Like atleast 85% of the soundtrack is instrumental, even the ones that have lyrics often have a instrumental version, this is a 4 hour+ long soundtrack.I know as Ive listened to most of it when working out at the gym

Oh thank god. These are not bad by any means. In fact, I like them. I hope most of the music is like that.

This also helps me feel better!

Looking at the flying video, Square Enix really need to get their shit together with FFXV. If Monolith Soft could do it with that massive world, draw distance and pure beauty of world design based on art style, why couldn't you?

I think the game engine must be made from scratch with this concept in mind to work probably. I don't think the FFXV engine could handle it.

Haha, my man. Doing the exact same and the soundtrack is nearly 6 1/2 hours long if I'm not mistaken. My favourite track so far is this one...4:40 is just....HNNNNG.

It pushes you to the limit while working out.

Thanks, sounds great then as the only thing that was putting me off was the fear of no fast traveling to the city before acquiring the mech.

I know that we won't have an answer about dual-audio as DLC (I'm still hoping for it!) until it's close to release, but did we get several confirmations that Lyn is the only one without the same outfits as the japanese version?
Already not liking some text and voice changes, wouldn't like that to happen on top of it...

Looking at the comparisons, I don't think they actually changed the outfits at all. It seems more likely that the modifications were actually made to Lyn's base model.

I know nothing about this game. At all. Maintained a full blackout so far. Not seen any videos apart from the e3 trailers.

And that's considering Xenoblade Wii is one of my favourite games of all time. I've played through it twice on my Wii since UK release day in 2011, once on my N3DS and three times on my PC in full HD.

Gonna start a new playthrough soon, will get it wrapped up before 4th December.

Wow... I was not nearly this strong (I was one of the first people to look at the spoiler thread in fact lol).

I know the entire story (but I did keep a blackout on most of my favorite part of that game, which is the exploration).

I don't mind much though, specially now that it'll be a while before I can play the game =X

I do know one thing, as I guessed from the trailer last e3:

telethia

But I'm totally dark on everything else. I don't even know the character names.

Why is the lip-syncing so bad.... Graphically the textures look flat and low quality. Combat looks like a MMO except without the... MMO part not sure what the hook for this actually is?

Alright time to stop checking out videos and go dark till the 4th, Nintendo really needs to hurry up with the pre-load i mean hell they had time to put mario tennis up for pre-load >.<

I don't think the lip-syncing was adjusted for the dub.

The textures are bad (I assume) because the world is huge

Pre-loads go live about two weeks before the release date. It makes sense for Mario Tennis to be up now since... well, you get the point.

In the first Xenoblade, the lower quality cutscenes (as in, the ones that were basically just people talking) didn't have actual lip sync. Only the higher quality, fully animated cutscenes did. This game is most likely similar.

They also didn't redo the lip sync for the English dialog in the first game, giving it something of a dubbed anime feel. I haven't seen enough footage of the English version of X to know if this is the case for this one, too.

You do know this is the spiritual sequel to xenoblade, right? One of thr highest rated and highly praised JRPGS of the last generation?

Wow I just noticed (Xenoblade spoiler?):
Fiora's VA
is in there. Making my avatar won't be so simple now since I have more appealing options.

In the Japanese version they got all sorts of actors from not only Blade but from Saga and Gears as well. It's so cool.

Andre from gamexplain said during a Mario Maker stream that while he hasn't been into RPGs in recent years, XCX impressed him. Hope this gets received well.
