New Final Fantasy XV screenshots

Hell no. As much as i like Witcher 3 or Skyrim, we don't need RPGs to be standardized.
(I mean, first thing I've done playing Witcher3 was to deactivate the whole right part of the HUD to play without a fucking GPS like a boss)
No one said standardise anything.

All i said was a witcher type game with a more Japanese art style would neat.

I want xv to be the way it is.

Yeah but I don't particularly like the art direction. The rest of the game is ace, though, my second favourite FF after IX.

interesting...FFTs art direction is some of my favorite 2D game art direction... i absolutely LOVE the character designs!

I do see how some people might not like the samey-no-nose look though... but personally it fits the game perfectly... i think it would lose its charm if the characters looked like FFVIII or FFVII characters instead.

The thing that I like about this game is that it feels like a fantasy roadtrip simulator. You can get out of your car whenever you want and go explore nature. Who needs real life when you can go for a fantasy hike?

Even if the story ends up being shit, at least it'll be good for aimless exploration (like Skyrim).

I just hope there's some biodiversity. Best case scenario is that the Duscae region is the only region that's finished, which is why they haven't shown anything else?

In Episode Duscae the locals are reacting to their car which is pretty cool.

They all drive these old junks and then a luxury convertible from the royal capital comes around, so it gives a sense of realism for them to talk about it.

I'm hoping we'll hear same kind of stuff regarding the party in the full game too.

That's actually pretty cool.

It's not like the old games didn't have stuff like that but addressing it ingame makes the world feel more alive and believable.

It sounds like the Duscae region is the "most finished"(or at least the tiny part of Duscae in the demo) for obvious reasons. Beyond Duscae they now say most areas are between 70%-80% done.

Hopefully that means we'll see a lot of variety soon.

Now this is looking very nice. I like the vibe of the city, as someone else already stated, reminds me a lot of FFVIII.

Did you download it back at launch?

My story is simple. :D

-I bought the Type-0 on Xbox Live on premiere day.
-I downloaded FF XV demo, and i play with it several hours. :D
-Few day later i deleted the demo, and Type-0.
-And today i can't find the FFXV on my Games&Apps list: :( (not even XBL)

(sry for the simple words)

would really have liked a video log instead of a picture log but, damn does it look very pretty. I can't imagine how good it looks in motion.

Damn, VIII really had the best city design of the saga.

TBH those screenshots don't tell me much. General art direction is solid, but that was never the problem with the game.

Also, I don't get where people get the idea that open world equals world map here, they're basically telling you, you can explore those areas in that description, isn't suposed to be like a world map where landmarks are clearly identified and ins't there a lot to do in them...

I'm telling you this is going to be the number one way that SE create a good world. AI for pedestrians and animals that have cool interactions with the environment. So far everything we've seen from the behemoth is phenomenal like the way it's skeletal system pays attention to the topography of the map, i hope they follow through with this detail for all the things in the game.

I think people have been misinterpreting what I meant with my post...

So no one wants a completely open world Final Fantasy game with a quest system with a ton of meaningful quests/talking to towns people to unlock epic storylines outside the main quest that is both meaningful and rewarding, with a story progression of: You can do whatever you want, you can do the main quest or just focus on it too, but look at all the other amazing quests you can do as well.

And by Sandboxy I mean you can fool around fighting things randomly for fun, steal airships from the army, or a tank, and take down crowds of monsters. (Things shown in Versus 13 trailers of things you could do.) That way grinding doesn't feel like grinding but you getting experience for fighting/while having fun?

But okay...

I want it, but seems people are happy with subquests involving Prompto getting mushrooms by himself when the player is watching.

I don't think that kind of game is a realistic goal today. Games with sprawling open worlds don't tend to also have huge epic storylines, much less a bunch of epic sidequests too.

Witcher 3 is about the closest to that kind of thing, but I wouldn't call the game epic at all. It takes place on a much smaller scale than any kind of Final Fantasy game.

There are way too many fully open world games today. Final Fantasy should stay story focused, it's one of few things consistent about the series minus the MMOs.

That's fine and dandy, but then we have one of the biggest waste of resources in the recent times. They should have done a traditional world map instead, we may have been playing the game by now.

They're describing it as being similar to Red Dead Redemption in terms of linear progression through an open world.

As part of the Final Fantasy series, the characters will grow while gathering items, and you’ll visit other places as the story goes along, where there will be drama to experience, followed by a climax that will be reached. That’s the kind of flow that it will have.”

“That’s right. It’s not a game like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, for example, where you could go where you please and pick up quests,” says Tabata. “The destination will always be indicated, and that’s where you’ll head with your allies, and grow together.”

Tabata adds that while the game will allow you to explore, “once you arrive at an area of interest and start advancing through the story, in a sense, it’s closer to Red Dead Redemption.”

These 3 screenshots are like emergency medical aid for the disaster scene. However of course it aint enough.

We need more aid and fast.

Give me some kickass footage of airship travel. Better yet, reveal that their car has flying capabilities, like the DeLorean in BttF, and I'm set.

They're blurry mostly because the game is blurry. JPEG compression at 1.4MB isn't doing them favours, but it's not the main image quality bottleneck either.

Can you tell if these screens are lower than 900p? There's artifacts all over that city screen, probably why they didn't want to show it at Gamescom.

It's probably 900p upscaled to 1080p like the demo was, since it's looking like actual ingame footage.

There's also some funky postprocessing going on in the game which blurs the image.

No way.
The only thing i'll accept, is instanced cities and dungeons.

I want a real overworld, not some FFX-follow-the-path nonsense.

Sorry for my ignorance (english is far from my strenght) but what does it means "instanced cities and dungeons" ? I tried to google it but I still didn't get it :(

All the obvious stairstepping is actually 1:1 on both horizontal and vertical axes. It's native 1920x1080.

The post-processing is smeary and has some artifacts at depth discontinuities, however.

The game has a slight DOF effect that blurs the background, but even in the demo the textures up-close don't have the low-res artifacting I'm seeing in the Lestallum screen.

Well that's weird lol, as IQ-wise it looks worse the demo imo. Guess they still have a year to iron out those issues.

EDIT - just read the last page. I'm so lttp.

I think he means that the cities and dungeons would be separate locations, but everything else would be open-world and seamless.

Looks kinda too good for PS4 but too bad for PC max settings. Then again, it's probably far from being constant 30 FPS so I don't know.

That Cuba designed on... It just adds so much character to the world, it seems so real!

edit:

._.

Are you f---ken kidding me? -sigh-
Is that hard to ask for a very sandboxy Final Fantasy that's like Skyrim/Witcher 3 in terms of open world, quest system, and story progression.
This is a reasonable suggestion for a game. It's very doable, and I have no doubt that a lot of the jRPG fans who are like "huh? no! Crazy!" would actually love this if they were given it (whether in XV or not)

I'm not usually a fan of when people say things like this, but: Square Enix couldn't handle that with mainline FF. They'd need to relax graphical fidelity and authorial control over every sequence.

But then again, FFXII was one step in that direction. Never say never. Just probably not XV....

But then again, FFXII was one step in that direction.

XII was a step towards a larger world, but not wholly open world. It was open in that you could attempt to map out every location if you wanted, but doing so would likely kill you, like wandering into a certain cave from the Westersands. The progression throughout the world map is methodically linear. That appears to be the course SE is taking for XV as well. There comes a point where relinquishing enough scripted scenes and guiding hints will change the game from a story driven experience to a sandbox. The mmo entries are as far as SE has gone with the concept of open world, and even then progression and exploration is locked behind the narrative framework.

That does sound like a pretty reasonable explanation.

I'd like to see the sandbox jRPG someday, but I do realize it'd come at a cost to forward motion and the emotional connection you get from a more structured storyline.

I just noticed...they changed the driving orientation? Driver's seat is also on the left...

Yeah it seems like they did. I thought the screenshot was mirrored at first, but Promto's hair is correct and it's from an official source so...

They drive on the left lane in Japan but maybe they looked that most people on this planet don't and changed it.
