New gaming monitors at CES2017 (VA, IPS, TN, 240 Hz, etc.)

That new Asus monitor looks pretty good, and has all the new fancy technology so it would last for a couple years... however the size is the biggest downside.
After seeing those 34 inch monitors in person, 27 inches just won't cut it for me anymore.
Especially if you factor in the price.

It's not looking good for a 34" 21:9 144hz IPS/VA monitor announcement at CES, is it?

Do something, Durante. Make it happen. Please.

My problem is that I have a 34" IPS ultra wide 60hz monitor and it just doesn't seem $1200 is worth the price of entree right now. I would rather finally get a VR set when Oculus/HTC release new updated models.

The definition of laptop takes another bruising.

Thanks Razor.

I'm hoping to see successor of 43X800D/samsung's entry 6300 series, or something else that will appear in that price range [~600 euros].

Yeah, I really hope we get a Samsung tv with the picture quality/HDR Premium capabilities of the 2016 Series 8/9 models, but at a 40-43" size.

Any word on the Acer variant of that sick ASUS 4k144 monitor?

Also what would the ultra wide resolution be? 5040x2160? That sounds nice but it's like 2 million pixels more

Not a gaming monitor but holy crap!

Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 8K Monitor (UP3218K)

With our new UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 8K Monitor (UP3218K), we're pushing the boundaries of innovation to feature four times more content than Ultra HD 4K resolution and 16 times more content than Full HD in addition to 33.2 million pixels of resolution compared to a 5K monitor's 14 million pixels of resolution. The new UP3218K offers breakthrough realism with the finest details and color-critical performance for a truly transcendent visual experience thanks to Dell PremierColor, which offers 1.07 billion colors and 100 percent Adobe RGB and 100 percent sRGB, and an unprecedented 280 ppi to view most images in native format.

Only $4999. I'll take 3.

On paper, ASUS PG27UQ is exactly what I want, except the price is just a bit too high.

Still, if it reviews well, I think I'm gonna grab one this year. My only two big tech acquisition goals are 4K+HDR monitor and Nintendo Switch. I also, at this point, don't know if the back has a VESA mount because I'd like to attach it to my monitor arm rather than on its own stand. Won't be a big deal if not, I actually have cleared my desk by packing up the WiiU and selling my Xbox One... So now I just need space for my gaming laptop (which I HDMI-out to my monitor when I'm home) and PS4 Pro and the upcoming Nintendo Switch.

EDIT: left a sentence unfinished

Sadly, you'd better change the OP to remove the price of the PG27UQ, Durante. It seems ASUS suddenly realised they could charge way more for this display. The RRP seems likely to now be €2000.

That's a lot closer to what I would have expected.

Sadly, if I was in charge of their pricing, I'd do the same (as long as I know that the tech works as well as can be expected), so I can't complain too much. There's not really any alternative for now. (Other than the Acer, which will probably have a very similar price)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ;/

2000€ is too much for me.

Friendship ended with ASUS. Now Dell is my best friend.

I thought OLED wasn't optimal for PC use? (due to static elements causing burn in)

DELL actually intended to put their $4999 OLED monitor on sale in 2016, but it's been delayed. It was shown a year ago and there were several previews online.

The monitor had two mechanisms to combat image retention; a sensor that turned off the display if no-one was present and a pixel-shifting algorithm.

At CES, the video was published 6 hours ago

So almost at the exact same time that ComputerBase published the text I posted. Heh. Sort your shit out ASUS!

$2000? Nah, I'm out. $1499 was the highest I was expecting and that was too much for me.

Id rather buy a titan and a KS8000 for the same price, and just run that with my current monitor to cover all the same needs.

Boo.

I wouldn't mind a 3-monitor setup with those new 8K Dell monitors. The bezel is pretty sleek.

15 fps is all you need.

See, now this is a monitor. Small bezel, minimalist foot, no signs of any garishly designed edgelord 'g4mer' nonsense.

Good looking out for me, Dell.

Most Dell monitors look like that. I love the look of my Dell GSync and the flexibility of the positioning options is wonderful.

The ASUS design doesn't really bug me though. Most of the Acer "Predator" bright red branding is way too garish though.

That HP Ultrawide in the OP looks pretty slick.
