New screenshots.

NeoGAF talks about everything except graphics.

Is this the game that is playable Day 1 or will we have to wait a few years for Boris this time around?

These screens look doctored, as far as IQ goes.
Either way what am i supposed to see there?

What are we meant to be looking at? The blocky shadow on the fence? I don't know if there's snow on the roof and ground like one guy said but I guess it's possible if it's a little mountain town.

Hot damn this game looks amazing. So I basically have too bad choices - play it day one with poor IQ and stuttering FR, or wait for ages for the superior PC version that never will materialize. I think I'll just go with day one, maybe do a week of some old Xbox 360 to acclimatize me.

Snow? Where? I don't see it.

On the full pic there's a whitish ground and some white lump on the left, but it could be something else. Doesn't really look like a snowy scene otherwise.

But Dennis has posted that cropped picture twice with no explanation, need some help here.

Too high res, must be next gen.

Nice try.

The issue is not whether the super superior PC version will come out but if we will have to wait for Boris to work his magic.

GTA V resembles GTA IV in some unfortunate ways like the ugly foliage but on the other hand we have stuff like this:

that indicate vast improvements.

That last pic does not have a single jaggy and it looks like they're using some kind of real time global illumination approximation. How are they pulling that off on the consoles?

I just hope the cars handle better. More like the ps2 GTAs and less like the all over the place handling that the GTA 4 cars had.

I'm not sure if they're going back to that but thankfully, despite seemingly most of gaf saying how amazing it was, Rockstar realized how terrible the handling was in GTA 4 and they said in the GI article they're trying to make it like racing game controls.

if it's like a sim racer, people are going to hate it even more than GTA4. heh heh heh.

I think they're trying more for the arcade racer like midnight club or burnout than forza. Who knows though. I'd sure as hell love it if it had GT/Forza's customization even if cars last about 20 seconds in GTA games lol.

They said the driving would satisfy fans of simulation racers, I think it'll have Forza Horizon physics. Horizon was slightly more arcadey than Forza 4 and was more forgiving.

Also the handling in IV was heavy but easily controllable, you could actually not hit everything while going down a street unlike all the PS2 GTA's.

They just have a really strong lighting engine that makes it look amazing in motion, I'm sure the individual objects in that scene are low res but it doesn't really matter since obviously they're so limited by the hardware

That'd be fine with me. I do hope they bring customization back from SA even if it's not as deep as a simulation racer. It would make things more fun and give us another option to spend money which is a constant problem in GTA games.

Anyone else thinking you put your scubagear on, ride in a jet, jump straight into the water from a great height, and swim underwater? It would be awesome.

Do you mean actually playable or just good for taking screenshots? Boris made GTA IV look a lot better....not more "playable". If anything ENB actually made it harder to run on systems.

New screens looks awesome btw.

holy fuck

OMG WE GET TO BE JAMES CAMERON

Hope rockstar goes crazy with this one. I'm talking about a dinosaur ( trex) loose on th streets of LA and you have to hijack a fighter jet, and hunt it down kind of crazy.

I hope there's multiple talk stations this time.

WCTR better return at least. PLR and Integrity sucked dicks.

No thanks, GTA never got that stupid. Killer chefs is stupid but believable. Jetpacks are farfetched, but again, believable. I still want it somewhat grounded in reality kind of like most of SR2 or it'll become obnoxious like SR3.

This has probably been said before, but I want the game to be crazy, but not that crazy. That's what l like Saints Row for.

I hope they take an even more mature and realistic tone than GTA IV.

No crazy stuff pls. That is what Saints Row is for.

I don't know what you are talking about because all I can think is "Damn! A mission with car-carrier truck dumping cars to block the police? THAT IS FUCKING AWESOME!"

I think the 2nd trailer is evidence enough that they aren't doing that. This game's tone seems to be a bit more "reckless abandon" in comparison to GTAIV, and the characters seem to revel in their jobs way more than Niko did. Truthfully, I'm glad they've lightened up a bit. The nature of this series is too ridiculous for the narrative and protagonist to be so serious. Not to mention vanilla GTAIV was extremely light on mission variety and had terrible controls. Plus if you're going to make a serious crime drama, it has to be intense. The only thing intense about GTAIV was the struggle between my hands and getting Niko to take cover, or shoot someone through a doorway.

There's a time and place for "mature and realistic." In terms of tone, GTA is not the time nor the place.

I think that people confuses fun stuff to do with a stupid plot or a weak narrative. If you play saints row, you have a lot of things to do, but there is no a strong/coherent/interesting story or characters to complement this fun stuff, the same happens with Just Cause.

GTA IV´s plot /characters and dialogues are great, but the game becomes boring due to the lack of minigames and things to do out the main story.
I think that GTA V should keep the narrative level of GTA IV, and add to this the "fun stuff" of SA. This interview with Dan Houser on the NY Times is relevant on that.

On the plus side, they can use GTAIV's car handling for the boats.

Did you play the game for more than an hour? The piece of shit taxis and old cars at the start of the game weren't meant to handle like Ferraris...

If R* deliver cars that handle like burnout I'll lose my shit... The GTA IV sports cars were awesome to drive.

Yet there's aliasing on the windshield wipers.

Not even Forza Horizon has jaggies on the winshield wipers.
You sure that's just not a bad texture? The pic looks clean as glass.

Actually, I see something going on at the top of the car. I wonder if it's aliasing that MSAA didn't pick up because it's a deferred engine.

I think there's too much shit going on, for a ps3/360, to have that IQ, as blurry as it may be.
RDR was plagued with Aliasing and GTA4 was beyond blurry.
If they can pull it off, more power to them, i don't believe it.

RDR was using just 2xMSAA
GTA4 was 2XMSAA which broke in a lot of places, plus it used a nasty post process filter, plus bloom to make the game look blurry. If you notice, the game is actually sharper at night.

The thing is that the RDR shots were way sharper than those GTAV shots.

That shark is effing huge! It looks more like a whale shark than a Great White. Hopefully they readjust it some to make it more anatomically correct. If that's supposed to be a Great White it would be the fattest Great White ever.

My guess is that it's downsampled from 1080p + post processing AA. Of course there will still be aliasing left. But it will look a lot worse in real time on consoles.
