New Hellboy Movie Coming

It would have been nice to get closure from Del Toro's series but on the flip side I love the Hellboy comics more, so maybe a reboot can raise the movies to that level for me.

Neil Marshall is a wild card, this could turn out great or bad based on his portfolio.

This is such a bad idea don't do this.
It's an adaptation. Del Toro's version isn't the only one worth existing.

Raimi's Spiderman versus MCU Spiderman
Burton's Batman versus Nolan's Batman
Del Toro's Hellboy versus...well, we'll see.

R-rated plus Marshall suggests it'll be a different take compared to Del Toro's fantastical adventure style

The guy behind Dog Soldiers and Descent doing r-rated Hellboy? I wonder if this will lean more on the horror and Gothic elements, like Hellboy In Hell. That would suit Marshall's monster horror background and skill at grand battles.
One of the chapters of Hellboy in Hell is called The Descent ;)

David Harbour is inspired casting. I hope they use makeup that doesn't prevent him from emoting the way the rubber face hampered Perlman.

I do feel bad for Perlman if this happens. Dude seemed to want Hellboy III so bad and has been jerked around by the possibility of it for so many years.

This doesn't make sense. How the hell was Del Toro not able to get Hellboy 3 made but this is apparently getting green lit?

This. Either this project is wishful thinking that will go nowhere or the world really has it out for the guy. Speaking of which...

Del Toro really is on the shitlist for studios right now isn't he?

Video games publishers too. (Silent Hills/P.T. and THQ's inSANE)

I liked the Hellboy movies well enough, but I didn't love them enough that this news bothers me. David Harbour would fit the role well, and R rating may allow it to go in some interesting places, and the director seems solid enough.

I've always been meaning to read Hellboy but I feel like theres too much out there and don't know where to start. Anybody got some suggestions as to where to start? With the news coming out just now, I wanna get into it.

Marshall isn't a bad choice for the reboot, but this strikes me as something that isn't going to get made anytime soon, and the lack of del toro probably means it'll rely even more on CGI which is a bit of bummer IMO.

R rated reboot directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game Of Thrones) and staring David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy.

I love the del Toro movies, but people shouldn't be upset by this news.

This could be amazing.

His character in Stranger Things was basically Hellboy the more I think about it.

Stocky, gruff, grumpy, lovable, wisecracking functional alcoholic.

Never watched a Neil Marshall movie so I don't know what to expect. Hoping for Lobster Johnson.
If you like horror, check out Dog Soldiers and The Descent

If you watch Game of Thrones, you've seen some of his works; he's done two of the big battle episodes in the series

You really don't understand why an older run of movies that never set the box office on fire isn't being continued instead of starting fresh?

I think the speculation that Del Toro and Perlman were too expensive is unfounded. From what I recall they both love they property, loved working on the previous movies, have been trying to get the 3rd made for almost a decade and would be willing to take a price cut to get the 3rd one finished. Idk

You think people, 10 years after Batman Returns, heard about Nolan making Batman Begins, and responded "Burton and Keaton are the only people who should make Batman movies?"

Because Del Toro's Hellboy and Burton's Batman have a lot in common when it comes to taking the concepts and fictional universe and then doing something very, very cool but not necessarily very faithful with them.

I may be wrong as I only read a few hellboy comics years ago but what warrants this needing to be rated r? Nothing I read seems like an r rating would be needed unless there chasing to that Logan , deadpool money

Yeah, I imdb'd him, never watched any of his stuff. The Descent looked cool from the advertising I've seen but still haven't watched it. Good to know he is not an automatic crap choice, Hellboy/the Mignolaverse deserve good treatment.

I'll echo the sentiment that an animated series could fare better though.

I'm totally In for this, David harbor is great but why does it seem like Del Toro is just constantly getting shafted on projects he was or is involved with?

Hollywood Reporter's article:
But both movies engendered strong cult followings and there were rumblings of a third installment. Last year, del Toro, Dark Horse Entertainment, Levin and Gordon, the latter of whom controls the rights, explored their options. However, the budget was a stumbling block, with del Toro wanting a bigger canvas for his vision. In the end, the producers decided a reboot and relaunch was the more feasible route.

The rating and the director makes it sound like they're gonna go heavy on the horror like the comics.

Can you imagine a moment like the wolf-head girl being brought to life?

That panel scared the SHIT out of me the first time I read it. One of the few times a comic was paced so perfectly as to elicit a physical reaction from me while reading it.

I'm sort of okay with this.

On one hand Perlman was great as Hellboy, on the other I feel like Del Toro doesn't have a great track record for getting things out the door and hasn't knocked it out the park movie wise since the early aughts anyway.

Read some of the BPRD books. Yes, making it R is likely influenced by the success of Deadpool and Logan, but it wouldn't be a bad fit for the material at all. More natural if anything.

I'll watch. I'm curious how they think they'll get audiences more interested, though. The first two were good, but the world at Large didn't care. How exactly do you fix that problem?

We can have a hellboy series without Del Toro guys. The movies were good for world design, and great hellboy makeup, but the movies weren't that good overall. this is coming from someone who read the comics for years.

There are so many great hellboy stories perfect for movie adaption.

this

tho, Golden Army is an EXPONENTIALLY better film than the first. It's actually fucking great and I never have a problem re-watching it as opposed to the first one

It's all in how you sell it.

Neither Hellboy was sold all that well.

They've got arguably the star from Stranger Things playing Hellboy, and if they sell it with more emphasis on the monsters and the supernatural horror aspect than they do the comic book/superhero stuff, it might move the needle a bit more.
