New joycon photos from Chinese forums (possibly factory worker)

Is there going to be a flat connector sticking out on each side of the screen? Those are going to break fast.
If the leaks are true, there is like a recessed part of the console on either side that these fit into. The middle part of the joycon is magnetic, so it pops into place and stays there.

Yes, but the joycons are inserted this time. Not and slide like the Switch 1. So, you have to break the console to break the pins.

Show the fucking games already.

What's with the huge button at the top that is sideways? Unlocking mechanism? Push the magnet inside to unlock it?

The thumb stick is completely different now? That's cool though I never use the joycon. lol

Yes (again supposedly according to the leaks) the sideways button at the top releases the magnet and lets you disconnect the joycon from the console.

I imagine that Nintendo risked bankruptcy with the Wii U, so for the Switch 2 they made the safest choice with a simple upgrade
Nintendo will never be bankrupt, even if the wii u sold 1 console they would still have pretty much unlimited reserves to release another console with no significant financial loss.

But that being said I agree with you that i would rather a completely different console than playing it safe,it's like they don't want to take any risks with something completely different from the switch.

Why are people hating?
People want a normal controller cut in half for some bizarre reason. I get the joy cons aren't the most comfortable but having two monstrous controllers on the side wouldn't work for portability reasons. If people want comfort just buy the pro controller.

Seems like a badly thoughtout solution tbh. All open with no lid covering the port on the joycons and if you can still detach the joycons and play without joycons at the sides two open connectors are going to stick out and risk getting damaged and pick up dust like a mobile charger.

Looks as uncomfortable as the current joy cons. Disappointing. The launch lineup is going to have to be amazing for me to buy a Switch 2 if it's not OLED and the joy cons remain relatively unchanged. If it isn't I'm just going to just wait for the next Steamdeck and enjoy my PS5 Slim in the meantime. God I really wanted a joy con redesign.

First time Nintendo are doing a simple upgrade and playing it safe. Probably a good thing but at the same time I feel like maybe Nintendo are losing their magic a little. I got the same feeling with tears of the kingdom. It felt more like an expansion than a brand new zelda game.

They don't stick out, imagine a Nes or Snes cartridge system.

That would corroborate this leak ("something is inside of the new JoyCon's, think 'lasers'"):

, which is pretty cool since this leak also said that the reveal would be in January.

Might not be long now.

I think that they really don't care anymore about the hardware leaks… They perfectly know is all about the software. Actually, this keeps people talking every day about the Switch 2 until the official announcement, so is a win win situation for them.

It basically is a beefed up expansion.

I wonder if the IR is the secret gimmick feature somehow

It would be cool if the Switch 2 dock can act as the Wii sensor bar and so you can use the joycons as wiimotes. Could be fun for some party games.

Cool??? it would be a disgrace
let's leave that wii sensor shit in the past

Nahh, there's a lot of third party options for ergonomics out there and some with better quality, also more customizable.
Even just having the option for Nintendo themselves to make some would be fantastic but sadly I think they're just too attached to the concept of a joycon to have a set straight out of the box. Having third party options are great. Having it as the only options sucks.
I find use in Removable Joycons simply for the fact I can replace them if I get stick drift. (And faulty buttons etc to be fair)
About the only benefit of having them imo without having to send in the whole unit to get fixed. If the S2 does come with hall effect joycons that should mostly eliminate at least drift.
Switch Lite doesn't have removable Joycons
It's the only Switch I have that's also one of the most awkwardly thing to hold and play due to still being modeled after it's big brother.
Strong disagree. It's better that they're removable so we can just attach whatever we want.
I'd happily compromise if they stayed detachable but came with better, significantly more comfortable joycons with a goddamn D pad straight out of the box rather than needing yet another additional purchase to make it better to hold for long periods of time.
Yeah this is why i barely used the switch as a handheld. Its just so uncomfortable and looks like nothing will change
I'd love to play on something that feels better than a king's size Hershey bar.

Guess I'll be that guy - wish Nintendo would scrap removable joycons to make the overall unit more ergonomic to hold.

dude, just buy a cheap set of ergonomic ones from some chinese manufacturers...
the fact that they are removable allows you to not only easily replace a broken stick, but also replaced the entire module with something you prefer

that NYXI Hyperion Pro has hall effect sticks, a normal ergonomic controller grip, a normal dpad, gyro support, and costs less than the official joycons while also including a grip for TV play.

I bet similar offerings by third parties will release soon after the Switch 2 is on the market.

Yep, I am not a fan of joycons myself, but they work well for kids, are portable and there are dozens of replacements in a large variety of formats.

Spend $50-70 and you have a pretty good and ergonomic replacement.

I don't see any issue with that. The quality of the product is more important, i don't care who made it…

It becomes an issue for me having to pay additional money on top of the product itself.

Same as above. I don't want to have to pay additional prices for a third party product for something that should come straight out of the box. If people want to blow money on that stuff, great, go crazy. Those options will still exist.

Well we know the reason it doesn't have a D-Pad is so it can be used as buttons on a sideways joycon. That's just a core design decision of Switch. Without that you can't split one controller into two anymore. It's actually significant because a single portable Switch can support 2p on its own with this. I personally want a d-pad, but not so bad I think they should abandon the successful "transforming console" concept. Of course we need to have it in our hands first, but I personally think the new joycon will be substantially more comfortable.

I have a d-pad joycon and large pro controller joycons. In the end I spend most time on the small joycons anyway with handheld-friendly games, but I do swap them. Since I can choose, the issue is pretty much moot.

I recently replayed some games on my Wii and it was absolutely amazing with the Metroid Prime games for example. There was so much to love about those controllers. :messenger_heart:

Goddamnit I so wanted to ignore this console, but the more "leaks" and "rumors" pop up on here the more I get kinda excited for the next Nintendo thing (again). F**ck me, only one good looking launch title announced and I'm gonna order it like the idiot I am. Probably gonna justify it by pretending my family cares for it, too.

well, do you only own a single controller for all your consoles? I don't, I always have at least 2, usually 4, for local MP. so I'd get a second pair of Joycons either way, why not kill 2 flies with 1 stone and also just get a full replacement with better ergonomics and better sticks at a lower price than official joycons?

Scrap the detachable Joy Cons concept doesn't make any sense at all…

And how is that scrapping the Joy Cons concept is going to solve that problem? I don't get it…
Already said I'm fine keeping them if instead of the current flat-ish joycons they instead put in ergonomic ones.

And sadly imo that's the rub of Nintendo being so focused on the detachable aspect of the joycons in that it almost ensures we never get a better out of the box product. Is being able to split the joycons for games really that significant for that many players that it takes priority over comfort and functionality of the product itself? Maybe, which is a bummer.

I do unless you count having to get another to replace a broken one. All my multiplayer is done online. Obviously this is going to be different for those doing a lot of couch co-op.
