yikes... not liking this at all :(

I really love earlier M83, especially Before The Dawn Heals Us for it's noisey atmosphere, or the nostalgic dream pop on Saturdays=Youth. I was a bit down on Hurry Up, We're Dreaming because it ended up being too pompous/ambitious for it's own sake. But that new song feels like almost lazy, edm remix friendly, almost cookie cutter synth-pop. I'm not surprised tho considering the massive pop they had after Midnight City.

what the fuck is this

edit: I love/d m83. The previous album was good, but I only really cared for maybe 7 of the songs, I LOVED saturdays=youth, and the previous albums as well. But this? feels like a different, generic band.

Wow this is pretty much word for word exactly how I feel about M83, Before The Dawn Heals Us is one of my favorite albums ever. Really bummed to see M83 go in this direction.

Not really digging it. They also had the worst collaboration with Jarre on Electronica. Weird because most of their older tracks are really great. Oh well...

The backlash reminds me of when MGMT released Congratulations and people were like this doesn't sound like Oracular Spectacular.

YES! My God how many times have I listened to Steve McQueen and Midnight City at this point...? I've just spent many a night with them on loop and doing art. Sooooooo good.

Any Album recommendations that are similar or give off the same vibe as Hurry up Were Dreaming? Its an itch I've not been able to scratch since and I know nothing about this genre.

there are good parts
and there are bad parts

On the whole it's not my favorite thing he's ever done and it's not really the direction I want to see.

It doesn't really sound like M83 nor even good.

I keep hoping for another Saturdays = Youth that's awashed in '80s nostalgia, but it'll never happen.

I know everyone's hating this song but I'm weirdly into it after a couple of listens. I guess I'm not heavily invested in M83 as a band and can imagine this song would be a shock to those expecting their usual.

Fuck the haters, it became instantly my favourite M83 song.

I don't mind the backing production, but the mess of vocals is very unappealing.

Ah well, I have so much new music* to buy in the next couple months, I can live with dropping this album.

*Including the new albums from: TOKiMONSTA, Fatima Al Qadiri, Tim Hecker, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Jessy Lanza, Dave Harrington Group, Clark, Underworld.

because I'm too lazy to look into it myself, I really enjoyed their Oblivion soundtrack but know nothing about them otherwise, what kind of music is their "normal" style?

Man, that ragtime-sounding piano beginning is off-putting.

Yeah I'm having a hard time getting into the song with that piano. Maybe it'll grow on me over time. I still have high hopes for the rest of the album, even though Morgan Kibby is apparently gone now :(

I was okay with their move towards poppier stuff, even if I thought Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts was their best album, but I'm not digging it any more.

I'm not going to spoil the track until the album, but I've literally loved every M83 album so far... Dead Cities will likely always be my favourite, but I enjoyed Before the Dawn Heals Us, Saturdays = Youth & Hurry Up You're Dreaming as well. I doubt the streak can ever be broken for me. I honestly can't think of another artist where I've liked every album they've ever done
