What in the fuck is this?

I remember when Midnight City came out and everybody was just loving it. A masterpiece.

Even Oblivion was solid.

This is like...

That piano is bad. Just terrible.

I have tickets for their summer tour so I hope the rest of the album isn't like this.

Just a completely forgettable song. Tries to do something unique and utterly fails at it. Literally can't remember a note from it, 20 minutes after listening.

Experiment all he wants, it's still not a very good song imo
Yeah, sadly it's not a track I'll be able to listen to with the car windows down this summer unfortunately, like I can with other M83 tracks.

I'll have to roll up the windows with this one :(

Super into it. I was more into the earlier M83 stuff and a lot of the stuff on Hurry Up wasn't up my alley. This is like nothing else he's done in the past, and I'm on board if the album is going in this direction. It's pretty interesting.

Reminded me of Hot Chip.

Pretty much what I thought. Kind of a weird combo, M83 x Hot Chip. And I say this as a big Hot Chip fan.

It's not as terrible as everyone else here is making out, but it's not mindblowing. Merely decent. Which of course, is going to be disappointing after everything that came before this.

It doesn't really sound like M83 nor even good.

I keep hoping for another Saturdays = Youth that's awashed in '80s nostalgia, but it'll never happen.

Gotta keep chasing that teen movie soundtrack skrilla.

It's crazy to think that there was a time that M83 was like a slightly more prolific Boards of Canada.

This seems like a gag
Yup. Wild speculation: he'll release two albums, this one with a bunch of bullshit on it first, then the "real" one shortly after.

I don't love it, but I definitely don't hate it. The outro portion is pretty sweet.

No way to tell if this is terribly representative of the whole album. There are a few songs on Hurry Up We're Dreaming I like less than this, and I LOVE Hurry Up We're Dreaming.

Bring it on.

Actually don't mind it, and could see the style growing on me. The piano seems to be referencing early techno and house tracks like Strings of Life, which I'm down with. Cautiously optimistic for the album. For reference, I liked Hurry Up, but found it a little ponderous and overblown (yes, I do know it's M83 we're talking about here), and S=Y is probably my favourite album from them.

This doesn't sound like a m83 song, as much as I liked hurry up were dreaming, I wish they would go back to the dead cities sound

Well. That's definitely not one of their stronger songs.

I love their last several albums... but this is a little off. There are parts where it feels like them, but it wavers a lot.

I get the concept they are going for with 'Junk', so I hope there are some gems on the album to win me over.

I'm scared now. I really don't want M83 to enter "that" period of their career.
Man, that ragtime-sounding piano beginning is off-putting.
Sigh. Yeah, it's not working for me on any level.

Wow the reactions in here man, M83 fans my butt. After a few listens it's really not as bad as some of you are making it out to be. Has pretty much all the hallmarks (Love the drop and the dog lol, some nice notes as well) expect for some different back beats and the struggling piano 90ish mix. That sounds totally on purpose. Maybe not as gripping as the rest of their catalog but people are acting like it's totally without merit.

The 80 vibes of the older albums were amazing , though it's seems like their looking into another era and mixing it up. Can't wait to hear more, though I will say Hurry Up was a bit more surprising.

Heh, not what I expected but...

I LOVE IT.

Starts off very Hot Chip-y then explodes into Daft Punk at the end.

Btw,

Before the Dawn Heals Us > Hurry Up, We're Dreaming > Saturdays = Youth > the rest.
