New M83 song "Do It, Try It"

I feel like "It sounds like Daft Punk" is the most common thing to say about electronic music. And given how Daft Punk has changed their sound all the time, it makes little sense.

Especially since the chorus doesn't really match any of DP's sounds and that second verse sounds way too fake to resemble Random Access Memories. Eric Prydz might be a closer comparison.

I stopped caring for this band after Before the Dawn Heals US and the breakup. All the atmosphere went when that happened.

As such, I don't think this song is as bad as the overly obnoxious synth of Hurry Up.

Heh, not what I expected but...

I LOVE IT.

Starts off very Hot Chip-y then explodes into Daft Punk at the end.

Btw,

Before the Dawn Heals Us > Hurry Up, We're Dreaming > Saturdays = Youth > the rest.
Best album is the eponymous one.

wow, i really like it

the start reminds me of Miike Snow
Hrm, I can see that.

Someone linked another new song on r/m83, Solitude. I'm loving this one a lot more than Do It, Try It. So mellow and relaxing.
Sounds like an almost alternative rock song from the 90s. Almost like an attempt at Bjork.

Haha, holy shit the backlash. I didn't expect that at all. I loved it the first time I heard it.
It's GAF.

Predominant negativity is not a surprise here anymore to me, just look at most every other thread in OT (especially those related to media such as latest movie trailers and such).

I mean, it's a HEAVY switch from most M83 tracks that I like, so you have to look at it that way

I liked Saturdays = Youth, absolutely LOVED Hurry Up, I played it over and over for months on end. I liked his work on Oblivion, as well.

This is just... a hearty wtf?

I will still give the new album a full listen, it's just nothing from it so far is having an impact on me like the previous albums did.

I don't see how it's so different.

I thought the shift from the electronic shoegaze ambient amalgam to sappy synth-pop was more harrowing.

I get so many references from "Do It, Try It" but I can't put my finger on them. Still, it's like the sound has traveled to the late 80s and 90s. I think I may like M83 again. :o

I can't stop playing it. :? Though my previous repeat song was Moderat - "Reminder (Special Request Remix)."

I have to agree with hateradio here, the shift on Hurry Up and to a lesser extent Saturdays from the previous records was more significant, so I just don't see it.

Both of the songs have the quintessential M83 sound laced throughout.

Most probably won't remember, but there was a lot of backlash when Saturdays = Youth released. People new to M83 loved it, but a lot of older fans hated it... And yet look how that turned out. It's almost like that was a dream as I rarely hear anything negative about it now. M83 has always been changing, nothing new now

'Go!' is easily my favorite of the three tracks released so far. It's got such a fresh vibe to it, definetely going to be a summer jam. Love the vocals, the solo is outstanding. It's got the same energy that made me fall in love with Hurry Up.

I was on uneasy feet about this album after 'Do it, Try it', but I am fully onboard after this.

Go did nothing for me.

Solitude was alright out of the three.

Still not feeling this album so far.
Same here. None of this sounds like iconic M83 to me. Really hope the other tracks are better. Was one of my of my most anticipated albums along with Hammock and Explosions In The Sky and those delivered. Worried about this one.

Go was alright, not great. Still like that first song that nearly everyone dunked on the most of the three released so far.

I've been aware of M83 since 2005, and always thought that I was supposed to be into this music. But I have never found an M83 album where all (as opposed to a couple) of the songs appealed to me, until this one. It'll be the first one I buy.

Is that so wrong?

So it came out a day early? iTunes says April 7 and it's all there in both iTunes and Spotify. Damn I would have listed to this all day. I swore it was the 8th.

It literally became available like 25 minutes ago. I got a notification that my pre-order was ready to download at like 11:40 and same for my Deftones pre-order. Walkway Blues is such a good song and so far this whole thing is pretty great.

iTunes releasing stuff at 11pm eastern the day before is pretty typical.

Actually, I never preorder on iTunes anymore because you can just start downloading directly if you buy as soon as it releases. If you preorder it actually takes longer for it to become "ready" on the servers. I had to wait until the next morning, once.

Just finished listening to the album and I really enjoyed it so far after my first listen. Certainly has an 80's vibe to it and overall it's super catchy. Some of the stand out tracks for me so far are

Try it, Do It
Go!
Walkway Blues
Solitude
Laser Gun
The Wizard

Gonna give it another go now.

I usually do because you get the singles when they become available.

As one review reminded me: this album is for you if you listen to Spandau Ballet of your own free will.

I am flush with recommendations for this kind of callback music (or actual music from the time, too), and I'm always looking for more. Hit me up any time.

It's out? Gonna listen to this and the new ihsahn, pretty exciting day for releases. I really, really hope the rest of the album is a bit different than 'do it try it' though. I've really enjoyed every other M83 release but that song pushed me away pretty hard.

There's no song on here like it, but it all fits in the same world.

Not feeling the album at all. I actually think the comparisons are dead on to Daft Punk. This sounds like M83's version of RAM. A departure that is either a hit or miss for people. For me, it's a complete miss.

If I wanted to listen to Air, I would listen to Air. Not a cheap sounding knock off, which is what Junk comes off as for me. Such a shame too, because I really liked the direction M83 was going after Saturdays.

Still listening through it, and it's wonderful so far. I've enjoyed every song, not been tempted to skip anything yet. I think I might end up enjoying this more than HUWD. It's certainly not as bloated, which is slightly ironic considering the name of the album.

Loving it.

RAM is horrible? lol

I'm going to love this then.

The two albums don't really have anything to do with each other other than drawing inspiration from different sources that happened to exist in the same decade. I doubt there's any correlation between liking/disliking them.

RAM is horrible? lol

As a long time Daft Punk fan since Homework, I think it is. Never have I felt so disappointed in an album like I did with RAM. And the writing was on the wall when the first song leaked, could not believe my ears. I even remember speculation on GAF that since it was just the radio single, it was vastly different and what would be on the album would be closer in line to trademark Daft Punk.

RAM felt like the type of album an artist puts out to fill a contract obligation. It was Daft Punk and Friends, not Daft Punk.
