New Metal Gear Rising trailers and gameplay videos

Hope its somewhere between Bayonetta and Vanquish. Vanquish had insane replay value, but the actual content itself was rather bare, 6 hour campaign + a few challenges and some dlc weapons...

I haven't played Bayonetta beyond the demo but Vanquish def was short. It was awesome but there wasn't a lot to the fighting really. There were only a few guns I stuck to because the others weren't fun. I mean length of the game doesn't equal quality, but I'd like it to be an amazing 10 hour game at least and then have some crazy modes where there's like a lot of enemies at once and you're all over the place like "wtf do I do?" =P

Bayonetta probably has the most content of any current gen action game. Kind of insane just how much is packed on that disc actually. ~10 hour campaign, insane replay value, tons of side/secret missions, unlockable boss + chapter, boat loads of unlockables including weapons, gameplay altering accessories, difficulties, costumes, etc.

A Dutch game magazine (Power Unlimited) had a preview in Frankfurt and the guy played for 8 hours straight and got to Chapter 4. Since there are usually about 8 - 12 chapters in a game, this might bode well for length. Tough the magazine isn't very trustworthy, it's still a good sign.

The achievements suggest there are seven chapters and a prologue, but that's still good news. I was beginning to think it might be another Vanquish situation.

I was happy with this post for a second until I remembered the game is probably filled with heaps of really long cut-scenes.

2: The Metal Gear Solid series is famous (or perhaps infamous) for its cutscenes. What would you estimate the ratio is of cutscenes to gameplay in Rising?

Yuji Korekado for Kojima Productions: “For this title, we focused on the quality and impact per cutscene rather than the length. We looked at the game’s tempo and emphasized the high speed action for the cutscenes integration and this resulted in a shorter duration of cutscenes in comparison to gameplay. With that said, I want to strongly point out that we did not slack on the story. We wanted to have the players think about what Raiden is going through; experience the story through the action in the game so we are not necessarily spelling out everything for players through cutscenes.

We would continuously edit the script and cinematic sequences to create a dynamic story telling method and I believe the players will be able to feel and understand the story without stopping the high speed action provided in this game

I worried that the Monsoon battle will be gimmick focused.

There is obviously some trick to getting him not to dodge.

I was thinking that too, but I'm hopeful.

I'm most excited about his fight out of the Winds of Destruction. Sam's fight, of course, is a different story.

It will neither sell as well nor score as well but opinions I guess..

To be fair, the character action genre is nowhere near as popular as MGS, so it's not surprising that it wouldn't sell as well. GoW is the biggest game in the genre and it doesn't sell as well as MGS either. I'm expecting Rising to hit 3m+ when it's all said and done.

I expect less, honestly. People will whine about how hard it is, so will reviewers.

Hmm, maybe a little less. Bayonetta pulled in over a million. And that was a new IP and basically no marketing outside of Japan. If Rising doesn't hit 3m then I don't think that it'll be too far off from it.
