Never felt so good feels like a christmas song...is that just me?

The opening feels definitely like a Christmas song. The fact that I listened to tons of his songs during Christmas time (and other times too, but winter the most maybe?) might make anything just slightly more Christmas-like.

I don't think Timbaland's style particularly works with MJ's melodies and vocal style. It's not bad, but nothing stands out. Originals have some neat concepts and ideas that I feel were lost.
Michael was always about pushing the envelope with his sound, and I feel that for the most part the contemporized approach just makes the songs sound like any other pop song released in the last year, which conflicts with Michael's impeccable and distinct style. If anything, the album clearly demonstrates that Michael's vocals still outclass today's major pop stars. I'd say it's a pretty decent album altogether.

Really? I think Love Never Felt So Good sounds even better than some of his songs back from when he was alive (specially from his later stuff). To me LNFSG sounds pretty much old Michael Jackson right there :/

Edit: Saw your edit. Yeah, the "Michael" album was pretty bad :(

I think it's just nice to hear his voice on songs that aren't terrible. Because, to be honest, apart from a few highlights (and to be fair, they are GREAT highlights), History and Invincible are pretty forgettable albums. And of course, Michael was a total cashgrab travesty.

Now we have some decent-to-good tunes with decent-to-good productions, and it's just refreshing. Such a relief to hear that amazing voice with something that's not instantly forgettable.

But of course, put on Off The Wall or Thriller and those tunes are on a completely different universe.

I like all 3 versions of Love Never Felt So Good.

Barely hearing MJ's signature "Hee Hee" (is there a proper term for this?) seems off though.

Damn, I really like HIStory, Scream, Childhood, Tabloid Junkie, Earth Song, They Don't Care About Us.... 2 Bad.... I love all those songs, lol. Definitely not forgettable for me.

Also Stranger in Moscow is like.... one of his best.

EDIT: Forgot about Money too, lol. That chorus is so sexy. I love this album.

I want to buy the retail version of the deluxe edition, but I am in Germany

so, WHEN will the CD be there on shelves worldwide?? some sources said it would released on May 9th and other sources like wikipedia and this thread say 13th.

what gives?

After ilstening to the album nearly nonstop for the past couple days. I'm glad we have the remixes and the demos. Both sets are great. One is very up beat and poppy, great to jam/workout to. The other is very chill and vocal driven, it actually is my favorite post workout playlist right now, lol.

I see it as 17 awesome songs all worth having in my collection. Good shit.

Also Chicago gets better the more you listen to it, lol. Love the lyrics.

Really loving his album - Slave to the Rhythm, Chicago and Blue Gangsta are amazing.

When I listen to the album I have a huge smile across my face but also feel sad that the King of Pop is gone :'(. Cannot wait to see what else they have hiding in the vault.

Exactly how I feel.

HIStory has the problem that it was fueled by rage and anger, produced by years of bashing from (mostly?) american media and child abuse allegations. You can see MJ is pissed, the colors, the teaser, the songs, everything, it feels like the main message of HIStory is "fuck you everyone, I am the king"

He' stopped being the always smiling and dancing guy you see in Thriller and Bad by then.

I think this might be why I love HIStory so much.

Looking forward to giving these new jams a listen tonight.

There is something off about them.

Awesome avatar.

I kinda feel the same. I really like the new version of Xscape but the originals of some of the tracks just seem to fit more. I guess it just feels weird to hear new material from MJ where he didn't have any input over the production.

I played Chicago for my mom, and by the chorus she said she loved it. Its truly one of Mikes best songs. Theres always a huge ass grinn on my face while listening. APWNN is my workout starter on the treadmill and I run as fast as I can to Slave and Xscape. Those 2 songs hype me up beyond belief.

I had my girlfriend listen to Love Never Felt So Good this weekend, and she loved it immediately. She said that she felt like she should already know the words to it. I kind of felt the same way.

Ive checked it out, I see what people say...

LNFSG is my fave, followed by Chicago. It is a real shame he didnt get to release them to his standard.

I cant help but feel MJ would not have released them like this. I understand what they were trying but would MJ accept it? The demos seemed to be heading in one way, and the producers decided to go another way.

This album just leaves me sad that we lost such a talent. Good album none the less!

listening now, hyped because Love Never Felt So Good was my favourite MJ unreleased track before. I do love me some angry/post-Dangerous raspy voiced MJ songs too though, hope that there's some of that on here too.

Michael Jackson's XSCAPE - The Collaborators pt 5: http://youtu.be/50TZdCrT_nc

Cory Rooney, the man who wrote the song Chicago, remembers his experience meeting Michael and working on the song.

I've been wanting to say that Chicago reminds me of Billie Jean, but I was afraid I would sound stupid. Well I feel validated now since it reminded Michael himself of Billie Jean.

I'm not sure if the vocal work reminds me of any one particular song, but when I first heard the original instrumental I instantly thought of Liberian Girl -- a darker, more mysterious Liberian Girl.

I picked up the deluxe CD today. Some catchy tunes.

I like Love Never Felt So Good with Justin and A Place With No Name.

I signed up for a free month of Spotify yesterday just so that I could listen to this at work today.

Shees lovin meeeee

Yeah it's really good. I'm not the kind of person who listens to music every day and I tend to get bored of repeating the same music pretty quickly, but I've been listening to this multiple times every day for a while now and it hasn't lost any of its awesomeness yet.

I'm a few songs in, and you can tell why this album never saw the light of day.

You realise that this is a compilation made from unreleased/unfinished songs, right? It's not an album Michael was working on himself.

Anyway, I've listened to the deluxe edition back to back a fair few times now and I have to say that I rather like it even if it isn't totally his style. The only songs I can't dig at all are Slave to the Rhythm (the original is a million times better even as an obvious demo - Timbaland stripped out the groove) and Love Never Felt So Good (the "duet" version is better mixed and has a better sound, as much as I dislike JT being on it - and it's a weak song anyway).

Chicago and Blue Gangsta sound better than the originals (the former being more powerful and the latter replacing the instrumentation with something that actually compliments his voice). Both versions of Xscape sound great, and I've come to really like A Place With No Name despite originally hating it.

It sure is nice having all the original tracks though.

I'm actually completely opposite to you when it comes to Chicago and BG. I think the originals had such a unique atmosphere. The new versions removed that almost entirely. i really don't like the new BG (or the old actually). But Chicago are both nice... it's just the demo is superior IMO :P
