I've never been keen on the XL (just have the 3DS XL for Cubic Ninja homebrew)...is it really pixellated? I may have to get it since NoA isn't releasing the normal sized one :-(

Faceplates + themes = a dangerously addictive and potentially expensive venture.
I'm currently rocking the white Smash plates that came with my Ambassador unit, and don't appear to be available to buy in Europe at launch. Naturally I bought the matching theme, and it looks fucking badass.
In the interest of diversity, and compulsive accessorizing, I invested in the KK Slider plates that I decided I needed as soon as I saw them months ago. But I'm sad to see that the KK Slider theme is pretty lame. I mean, you're gonna need to seriosouly muck about with the layout of your homescreen if you want to actually see what you've spent your money on. I have alot of stuff loaded on my 3DS!
I wish the theme previews were a little more...interactive.

You ain't the only one. Thankfully, we shouldn't need to take it out for a while.
It doesn't come with a screwdriver. You have to unscrew the screws till they loosen, and then pull the plate off with the top of the stylus.
Doesn't come with a screwdriver but it isn't a tri-wing or anything, any small Philips head will do.

There hasn't been a new console reported in the wild pre-loaded with 9.4 yet.
Hmm I'm so tempted to get the majoras mask special edition new 3ds from the uk nintendo store but I'm sure those will have 9.4 or an even newer firmware so I guess I'll settle for a regular new xl. Thanks!
I should point out though that system transfers are a no-go if you do have stuff to transfer. That does require an update to both consoles.

Just got my AUS N3DSXL import (Norway) and had a bit of a scare when it wouldn't connect to the eShop.. then looked at the box where it says "This New Nintendo 3DS XL system is intended to access the Nintendo eShop for Australia and New Zealand." Whaaat, will it seriously not work with the local eShop?? So, I changed my country settings to Australia, .. and it worked. Hmm, I thought, this is not good. However, I decided to change back to Norway, and now it connects.. phew!!

Heads up to fellow Australians, I was in Target this evening and they had some of the wooden coverplates incorrectly marked at $17 (the same price as the rest on the shelf). They still scanned at the usual $39 but the checkout guy overrode the price.

I didn't like it with RE: Revelations. I'm going to give it a proper try again but my initial reaction (after about an hour of gameplay) was worse than the CPP.
Matte. I would say it's a better shade of black than the XL. A bit lighter, but not enough to really notice.
Hot damn. My shipment from Play-Asia is already getting here tomorrow, and I ordered it on Friday. Rad.

Mine shipped with Fedex from Play-Asia. I wonder if it will get stuck in US customs and how do I resolve it if it happens? I ordered it to a friend's place as I am travelling and don't want her to have to pay any taxes or duties.

Fuck. I abused my old XL with Smash Bros and that never happened. Got the XL again in new format, but will be a touch paranoid now.

No, you don't have to do anything. You will get the invoice automatically after a week or two. The delivery will happen before that.
