This is pretty much "monkey ball meets stylus" right? I'll be on this if it looks better in motion than in those screens.

DS Game of the Show E3 2004

It will repeat in 2005.

DS Game of the Year.

You heard it here first.

Beating Mario Kart, Advance Wars, and AC, even?

... Do you know something, Striker? :)

Good work spotting that. WHAT GIVES, namco? Hilarious. I guess his head rolls and rolls around.

Gaimeguy, Animal Crossing is like a gorilla's armpit. It stinks.

Uh, you control the game with the bottom screen. You drag the stylus across Pac-Man to roll him.

NAMCO ANNOUNCES "PACÂ’N ROLL(TM)"

Video Game Icon Rolls onto Nintendo DS(TM) for his 25th Birthday

SANTA CLARA, Calif., (April 14, 2005) – Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Hometek Inc. announced today "Pac’N Roll(TM" will be shipping exclusively for the Nintendo DS(TM) in Summer 2005. Taking advantage of the DS’s touch screen, the game allows players to control a spherical Pac-Man with the stylus by rolling, dashing and bouncing around the environment with unprecedented ease.

In "PacÂ’N Roll," the inhabitants of Pac-World have been turned into spheres by the evil monster GolvisÂ’ Ghost Light. Pac-Man must roll his way through Ghost-Land, collecting pellets and confronting Ghosts to save his family and restore peace to Pac-Land. Introducing an innovative new control scheme, "PacÂ’N Roll" lets players control Pac-Man with the Nintendo DS stylus. Players can roll and dash around the environment as well as execute maneuvers such as hairpin turns, immediate stops and precision rolling with effortless strokes of the stylus.

“'Pac’N Roll' utilizes the unique capabilities of the Nintendo DS to introduce an innovative and intuitive new control scheme,” said Yoshi Niki, Business Director with Namco Hometek Inc. “Players are sure to enjoy Pac-Man’s latest adventure, and delight at the ease and simplicity of controlling him throughout the game.”

In his quest to save Pac-Land, Pac-Man will venture through stages such as Castle Pac, Gyro-Jungle and the Ghost House, while facing perilous hazards like moving floors, dash panels, jump zones and wind zones. Along the way, Pac-Man will find power-ups like the ”Winged Chocolate,” allowing him to fly through the worlds and jump over Ghosts, or the “Knight Chocolate,” providing him with armor which grants him the power to crash through walls and withstand more damage. "Pac’N Roll" also includes the original Pac-Man arcade game, allowing up to two players to munch on pellets and claim the highest score.

For more information about "PacÂ’N Roll," please visit www.namco.com.

why hasn't 4 player standard pacman been done yet? surely fighting over pellets and dodging ghosts would be fun.

no!?!?!?!?!?!?

I mean without 500 bucks worth of hardware and cables. I also mean 4 Pac dudes. no playing as ghosts. put it on a pacman jr size field and it could rock.

Looks hot. It was fun at E3, in a Demo-ish sort of way. Fun in the sense that I could tell when it was an actual GAME it'd be worthy of my attention. Color me hyped

for those that played the demo, does stylus control make it to easy?

Lets see,
1 GCN = $100
4 GBASPs = $320 (cheaper if you used GBAs)
4 link cables = $40-$60 (I can't remember if they're $10 or $15 each)
1 game = $20 (it came free with the Player's Choice Pac-Man World 2)
Total = $480-$500

vs

4 DS' = $600 (if you're going to complain that you need to buy 4 GBAs you better also be buying DS' for your friends to play with you)
1 game = $30
Total = $630

$630>$480-$500=you fail :D

Umm... you only need one GBA to play Pac Man Vs.

oh yeah.....

Still I want 4 way pacman with pacmen fighting for pellets. Wirelessly. on a giant field. Or 2 different fields that you can portal between to use both screens on the ds.

Man, that looks cool and fun as hell. One 2 keep my eye on. Being a DS owner's gonna be great once these upcoming titles start rolling in. I'm none too pleased w/ the selection right now.

This must play really, really well. Because it got more praise than Pac-Pix at last year's conference.

Pac-Pix wasn't a game last year. It was a tech demo.

I really wish they hadn't given Pacman a nose, especially in a game where you roll him around. I'm pretty sure his nose won't affect his rolling ability, so why?!
And yeah, this should have been bundled with Pac-Pix. I'm pretty sure Pacman is a dead franchise now though, regardless of what they do with it.

No, wait... I can see it now.

"Pacman is a ball with a dark history...
Toting a gun, cleaning the streets of criminals...
or is he?"

Pssst, kid... would ya like to buy some hyphens?

Something about rubbing my finger over an ever-smiling Pac-Man in a Super Monkey Ball-styled game really appeals to me. It's looking pretty good too. Only problem is, i hated the touch control in Super Mario 64 DS. :(

Actually, I just remembered a conversation I had with my friendly Namco PR buddy.

"So, the NDA means I can't write up previews until [date], right?"
"Right."
"But if I wanted to go on a Message Board On The Internet and say something very, very general, like 'Pac 'N Roll is awesome', I could do that, right?"
"Something like that, sure."

With that in mind:
