New Pokémon Sun & Moon trailer revealing the final starter evolutions & more

That trailer got me pretty hyped. I thankfully have a few games to keep me busy in the meantime, but this one definitely isn't going in my backlog. Love all the starters but I think I'm sticking with Rowlett.

Grass/Ghost is pretty cool, but I wonder if they'd still allow flying type moves to be learned?

Not a fan of the toucan so I was going to make Rowlet my defacto flying type.

Probably. It still has wings, and I can think of a few Pokemon without Flying typing that can use Fly (Flygon was mine in R/S and that is Dragon/Ground)

I'll admit, the Ghost-typing blindsided me. I was expecting -Flying the whole way through. Some others smartly guessed the correct combination before release, however. I don't know if they were being astutely observant or insanely hopeful, but kudos to them.

It makes sense from one angle -- Owls are silent in the night, with special feathers on their wings that cancel out sound -- so the concept of a 'light as a feather' Ghost-type can work. Also Decidueye doesn't have to embody an actual apparition, but instead a cloaked channeler or medium. But, that also must mean that it cannot fly in the tradition sense anymore. That would be my assumption.

So how come the leak that got the types of the other two starters right, got Desidueye wrong?

Maybe Ghost/Grass was a last minute change? It also doesn't make sense for them to add Flying to the first two forms and then just suddenly take it away. What was even the point of adding the Flying type to start with?

While uncommon, Pokémon have changed types during evolution before. Tyranitar is rock/dark instead of rock/ground like it's pre evos for instance.

I doubt it'll get fighting coverage tbh. But I could see rock or ground (Earthquake has been on every grass starter barring Serperior) which would pair really nicely with it's existing STAB coverage, not to mention flying is pretty much a given,
It def would like something in singles versus dark types that won't give a fuck about its signature move and can just pursuit it when it attempts to retreat.

Tiger Mask is a Fire/Dark type which is cool. Really is a Wrestling Heel.

Owliver Queen I wasn't expecting a sudden Ghost-typing. That means it should have a pretty wide movepool hopefully.
Literally a wrestling heel according to the website, too. Its classification is actually "Heel Pokemon".

Team Arrowl Wins again. Unexpected Ghost type for the final evo and Red/Blue rematch... YES...

BTW... If Red is here, at what Lvl he will show his pokes? HG/SS (+80) or PWT (capped at Lvl 50)?

The datamine text section for trainer classes did have
...186...
entries (all scrubbed bar ones used in the demo). So it's a possibility.
Crossing those fingers! Mostly because it'd be cool seeing them all animated in 3D.
Evolution of Red and Blue.

Never really noticed the height differences and it's pretty neat they kept that for the redesigns

Is pursuit really that common competively right now though? That said, It'll probably get U-turn, though that'll increase pursuit damage I guess

Ghost continues to be the type with the coolest Pokémon by a wide margin. Honestly grass/ghost is the perfect type for an owl!

Red and Green look great too. I love the really casual look they have.

The leak probably got Decidueye wrong because the leak was wrong.

Given the general vibe of owls I and others I know guessed Ghost as a long shot cool final typing for it, and I'm basking rn cuz it makes the design that much cooler.

I like how Red looks like he is in his early 20's. Many of the people who were around his age during red and blue are in their early 20's nowadays as well, So they kept Red = the player aspect of the games. But since he is the X/Y universe Red, I wonder which of his pokes will use mega evo? Will they change up his team up for this game?

The people who were Red's age in the late 90s are almost pushing 30 at this point. I was in third grade when Pokemon came out. I'm 26, going on 27 right now.

On my previous note, while I'm not confident Decidueye will get a good fighting type move given it's theme of being an archer (not exactly an up close and personal pokemon), getting a fighting move would be amazing since Grass Ghost Flying Fighting moves is pretty much the best coverage you can get with a grass ghost type and is resisted by nothing and hits most pokemon for super effective damage

In the heat of battle, Incineroar shows no concern for its opponents—and sometimes even launches attacks that strike the opposing Trainer! As a result, many tend to dislike this Pokémon and keep it at a distance.
Incineroar attacked the opposing trainer!

Opposing trainer fainted!

Incineroar wins!

Primarina is confused!

First ever time I'm not starting with Water. Joining the Owlet group this time around. Best looking starter and that type combo is amazing.

Aura Sphere is a possibility.

Yep. Mmhmm, just as I expect- wait hold up WUT.

Grass/FlyingGhost

 ... :D!!!

This is the first time I've loved all the starter final evos in a while... That's it, I've decided. I'm using all three of them. Primarina's still my favorite, though.

In singles? Yeah.

The thing about Decidueye is that I can see its whole gimmick boiling down to coming in on like a fighting move and using that shadow arrow attack to next Pokemon the opponent brings out. Now this means you can bring in whatever for free pretty much and your opponent won't be able to switch out allowing you to set up on a Pokemon that can't really harm you. That's solid but it's foiled by dark types like Bisharp which can just come in on it and pursuit it.

It's certainly a possibility since we have gen 5 backpackers. Stolen from /vp/

Holy shit that's awesome.

I meant officially.

No he's correct the Kalos starter final evolution were officially unveiled the week before the game released.

So how come the leak that got the types of the other two starters right, got Desidueye wrong?

Probably to give Decidueye a bigger move pool as he will be able to learn Ghost, flying and Grass type moves.

She and Silver don't have official names, though game data suggest their names are Leaf and Silver respectively. I really hope they appear in Battle Tree!

I doubt that Leaf will appear since she hasn't appeared since the Kanto remake.

Maybe but I feel like it's probably physically oriented so aura sphere wouldn't be too great

I'm not really sure if it should be physical or special. I kind of view bows and arrows as more physical than special, but most ranged attacks in Pokemon are special based. And if its hidden ability is Sniper, for example (a thematically appropriate hidden ability), it would be entirely useless on a physical attacker.

To me, special attacks are more energy based, while physical attacks is stuff grounded more in actual attacks. But all the (currently existing) physical Ghost attacks aren't very good. Shadow Ball is such a reliable move.

Alolan Marowak is going to run into that issue too, of a lack of Physical Ghost moves, which makes me think a Shadow Ball type physical Ghost move is coming.

Red and Blue both have to have straight level 100's on their team right?

Make it the first time in the series you can't grind your way past something.

Well, Staraptor got close combat (what lol?).

That being said, I'd be surprised if it got a fighting type move, but we'all see. There are always surprises.

I'm actually really excited to see stats, man.

I honestly liked the community nicknames more. Oh well, we always have our nickname feature.

More importantly, holy crap they aged! Red's design is pretty strange but i'm sure there's reason for it. Haven't watched the trailer yet going by the OP.

Kind of a distant dream, but I hope N or even Hilbert/Hilda appear.

Pursuit is a really uncommon move competively. Looking on smog on, the only ou pokemon who even considers using it is weaville, who has a hard time taking a hit and depending on stats might risk being taken out by a flying move after decidueye uses the binding attack. Obviously this might change in the gen 7 meta, and bisharp with pursuit could be a great counter, but that's depending on how common in ou decidueye is and it's not enough to really cripple it's potential

Sniper boosts critical damage, so I'm not sure how it would matter whether it was physical or special

Wait, Ghost is now effective against fairy or am I seeing wrong? That ghost type attack against A-Raichu was super effective...
