New Pokémon Sun & Moon trailer revealing the final starter evolutions & more

I'm not really sure if it should be physical or special. I kind of view bows and arrows as more physical than special, but most ranged attacks in Pokemon are special based. And if its hidden ability is Sniper, for example (a thematically appropriate hidden ability), it would be entirely useless on a physical attacker.

To me, special attacks are more energy based, while physical attacks is stuff grounded more in actual attacks. But all the (currently existing) physical Ghost attacks aren't very good. Shadow Ball is such a reliable move.

Alolan Marowak is going to run into that issue too, of a lack of Physical Ghost moves, which makes me think a Shadow Ball type physical Ghost move is coming.

Decidueye's signature move is a physical ghost type move. Who knows if it'll have a good base power though.
Also A. Marowak used some ghostly bone move in its trailer. Dunno what that was, but that might be physical as well.

Pursuit is a really uncommon move competively. Looking on smog on, the only ou pokemon who even considers using it is weaville, who has a hard time taking a hit and depending on stats might risk being taken out by a flying move after decidueye uses the binding attack. Obviously this might change in the gen 7 meta, and bisharp with pursuit could be a great counter, but that's depending on how common in ou decidueye is and it's not enough to really cripple it's potential
Haven't play singles in a minute. Didn't know pursuit fell out of flavor. Thought of anything it's usage would have gone up with latios and latias

Probably because it's not often worth a slot over a more reliable move given that it's damage sucks if they don't switch out, and even if they do it's nothing too special

Primarina has double type advantage over Incineroar, which has double type advantage over Decidueye, which has single type advantage over Primarina.

Rowlet team kinda getting the short end of the stick.

Incineroar's neutral to Fairy because Fire cancels out Dark's weakness.

It's a victim of power creep. It used to be when you used Pursuit, you got a gamble between hitting at 40 power and 80 power, vs. say Thunderbolt or whatever at 95 power or 47.5 power (assuming they switch in something that resists you). That's a reasonable gamble if they're moderately likely to switch, so anything that was likely to force a switch had reason to run Pursuit. These days, everything in OU just hits too hard - Outrage at 120 power, Brave Bird at 120 power, Focus Blast at 120 power. If you suspect a switch, and have a choice between STAB Outrage or unSTAB'd Pursuit, with the former, you're hitting 180 power if they don't switch and 90 if they do (assuming the switch resists); with the latter, you're hitting 40 power if they don't switch and 80 if they do. It just stops being worth it.

Pokemon has had an enormous problem with move power creep. Stats have inflated as well, but not anywhere near to the same extent, and this is a problem because move power creep overwhelmingly favours attackers.

I looked again and choiced tyranitar still uses it as well, but I'm not sure it wants to risk not switching out and getting hit by a se grass move

Does anyone know what island Mount Lanakila is on? I know the Battle Tree is most likely on Poni based on the map.

When you're introduced to Kukui at the start of the game, the map he shows you has a bunch of clouds to the bottom left. I was assuming that was postgame content but we'll see.

Confirmed best starter. Confirmed greatest heel. I love it. It's the best. Can't be beat. Godlike. Goddamn.

Side note: I was definitely not expecting Dartrix evo to be Grass/Ghost. I really don't understand why it is?

not only does the grass starter have a ballin design, they also had to make it part Ghost type. it's everything i've dreamed about

also the music from pretty much all of these trailers has been on point, damn.

Aside from Primarina, the typing for the starters is surprising, was pretty much convinced it would Grass/Flying and Fire/Fighting (again). Also digging Red's new look, looks like he's more grown up.

GF doesn't want their new greninja(potentially) to be held back by a quad ice weakness....or they wanted to deviate from the norm like talonflame.

Incineroar

F I R E / D A R K

I mean come on. This was our biggest wish for it and we GOT it. Dreams coming true, etc. It's description is hilarious and charming and Fire / Dark is surprisingly solid typing. I'm expecting good things from it.

Decidueye

Grass types aren't allowed to look this cool, jesus. That typing is neat too and it just gives off this intense "bishonen anti hero" vibe to me. All an all I really like this thing, possibly my fav Grass starter.

Primarina

Ehhhhhhhh. I still hate it, but its design has grown on me. SLIGHTLY. It's signature move is absolutely disgusting though. It's got an absurdly overpowered typing as well. I hope Fairy is weak to Ghost now.

I guess so. To me, I just don't see anything in it's design that communicates that it's a ghost type. I mean I'm not complaining or anything because it looks cool, I just don't see why it's part ghost.

Incineroar and decidueye are terrible names, but idgaf because the designs are so good for all the starters

Litten stays winning though

Interesting that they went grass ghost, and also interesting that tapu Fini and tapu bulu are water and grass, not ghost and fire

All the island guardians have great designs, and I love that z move haha

Cool that theyre brining back old trainers too, not just red and blue

Cynthia!

My hype is still sustained

Damn, Red and Blue are grown ass men!
But why is Wally still a kid...
I had the impression that Wally was a bit younger than your main guys in gen 3, and also gen 1 and 2 took place before gen 3 so they had more time to age. Doesn't explain there appearance in gen v other than ehhhh who cares about the pokemon timeline that much.

Holy shit, that Incineroar description. He gets so hyped while fighting he might beat the shit out of the other trainer?! I need to see that.

Thank goodness for its Dark typing, my fire starter tradition remains.

Pretty sure it's on Ula'ula, since from the shot with Kukui it looks pretty icy to me:

I hope the whole "Building a league" thing actually completes in this game and isnt a huge tease like the ORAS Battle Frontier.

Decidueye: Awesome, cool looking, will probably be in Smash Switch.
Incineroar: Dark type, aggressive fighter, heel wrestler. Amazing.
Primerina: Ugh.

The timeline is:

Gen 1/3->Gen 2/4->Black and White->Black 2 White 2-> X/Y, according to Game Freak a few years ago.

Why does Gamefreak hate Priority all of a sudden.
What did Whimsicott do.

I'm not convinced that it'll stop priority moves that don't do damage. I mean, protect is technically a priority move, and an ability that makes protect useless would be stupidly overpowered in doubles

Incineroar reminds me of the Charr from GW2. Except as a heel.

And it has a Lariat.

Well now I have to get this game and go #TeamLitten.

"THE CHEERS OF THE CHILDREN GIVE ME STRENGTH!"

Honestly I always go with reptilian starters and I was planning on porting over a Charmander for Sun/Moon. I'm so surprised I love Incineroar's design this much that I want to use a mammal starter for a change and Charizard would feel redundant. Maybe Totodile, seeings how Feraligatr is my second favorite Pokemon.
