So err who want to bet whether or not Ash will win the Alola league? ;p

In terms of popularity? Yeah

In terms of viability in competitive? Eh, thats looking to be Primarina. Water/Fairy is a BS typing.

Steel is neutral, limiting Bullet Punch
Aqua Jet won't do shit
Ice Shard won't do shit
Mach Punch won't do shit
Vacuum Wave won't do shit
Sucker Punch won't do shit
Knock Off won't do shit

So the ugly ducking ends up be a viable competitive swan, assuming her stats and move pools supports it.

Wow did premarinena get the short end of the stick Unique Movie wise. I guess it's fine due to it's fairy type (and thus being a Dramon Destroyer) but yikes.

Priority will probably be around as usual, but teams weak to Priority now have options to beat around it. Outright negating certain moves for a set period of time is a nasty ability as shown by the primals.

Totally. I can see Hyper Offense in particular benefiting from this. But overall? Their prominence won't be affected all that much by it. Psychic Terrain won't be a band aid for priority moves.

I'm gonna need to see some receipts before people start declaring Pooparina to be a "competitive beast". Azumarill is a beast because of Huge Power and its movepool, Pooparina is gonna need a lot of coverage moves, adequate bulk, good Sp.A, and a good hidden ability to be worth anything.

I think Fairy might be weak to Ghost now

Think about it

Fire & Dark > Grass & Ghost > Water & Fairy

Fairy would totally have it coming too

Ok, so we have:
-Sniper Owl
-IT'S NOT FIRE FIGHTING!
-Popplio joins Chickorita for most adorable starter evolution line
- RED AND BLUE.
-Cynthia's back too!
-Wally still best rival.
-More tiki pokemon

I wasn't hyped at all for this game initially, but...fuck it, this is how you win me over. I'm weak, I don't give a fuck.

What a nerd.

Anyway, I know we're all focused on the starters, but I'm a big fan of Tapu Bolo. Look at this guy, he has a grass type Super Fang too. What a baller.

The only groups of weird mini legendaries I like are the Legendary Birds and Legendary Golems, so it's nice to be digging all of these guys after those dumb old men and even worse stupid fairy things.

I like the fish a lot as well and am pretty solid on Koko, but I have no idea what the psychic one is supposed to be so I don't like it. Any guesses?

Anyone find it weird how the JP trailer just dumped Red and Blue in, while the US trailer gave them a bit more build up? The JP trailers are usually way better edited and filled out, so it stuck out to me.

It does makes sense, when you look at it like that. I wonder what other change might there be. Ghost is not exactly in need of a boost.

Uh, okay? Still looking for those receipts.

Fairy a.k.a one of the most brain dead, stacked types in the game paired with Water, a top tier defensive type mixed in with the usual benefits that Water types get isn't good enough for you? Really? It needs the barest minimum to be good.

There isn't a single Fairy type in OU that doesn't rely on a mega evolution, an ability, or both. Being part Fairy doesn't guarantee usefulness if that Pokemon doesn't have other tools that compliment it.

To be honest though, this is the one of the rarer gens that actually has all three starters that I actually like.

The last two gens were kinda iffy.

Yah I'm really liking all the Alola Guardians. They look real unique with designs that reflect Alola. It's cool.

I think the Water one is my fave

The typing in general is good and provides good coverage.

Dark is my favorite type, but they keep slapping it onto the the starter I like the least. I don't like ninjas or cats.

Good thing Ghost is my #2.

Primarina looks great in motion, I knew from the leaks I was going to pick it as my starter anyhoo but it's nice to see :3
Though I guess now we know the names some peeps are going to have to update their artwork:

I love TopLel, uh, Tapu Lele. The way it peeks out from it's shell is adorable.
Not feeling fini as much as I thought I would, but that works out because it means it won't be fighting with Primarina for my water slot :3

Cosmog is pretty cute :D

Hate to break it you, but every single Pokemon in this game relies on a combination of moves, forms, abilities, stats and typing to be "good." Hence the reason why people are excited for Primarina's potential. It has one of the absolute best type combinations you could possibly ask for. That's straight up one less thing for it to worry about right off the bat.

People are acting like it's a sure thing though when all we know about it is that it's signature move is kinda dumb.

The typing is good, doesn't necessarily mean the Pokemon it's attached is good as well. Again, until we see its movepool (because it will need more that Water and Fairy moves to be useful), stats, and hidden ability (because it sure as heck isn't climbing the charts with Torrent), it's wayyyyyyyyy too soon to treat it as if it's already a competitive contender.

I just love how much they hype up Red and Blue

"Battle Legends!"

Even the official site hypes them up so much

The Battle Tree—Where Strong Opponents Await
Somewhere in the Alola region, you’ll find the Battle Tree: a place where those Trainers who have completed their island challenge—or who are strong enough to have done so—battle one another. All of the Trainers you can encounter at the Battle Tree are strong. It seems you might even encounter two battle prodigies from the Kanto region...

Gee, it's almost as if I said that exact thing in my initial post. Weird

This is the point. Let's see what it can actually do first before we start acting like it'll be an undeniable beast.

I agree with Siege. It clearly is the best looking/designed starter ever, does it really have to be a great Pokemon competitive-wise too? It's gotta have some drawback, right? ;)
