New PS3 info coming at GDC

According to conf director Jamil Moledina, Phil Harrison will be sharing some new info finally.

BIZ: What can you tell us about Phil Harrison's keynote? Will we finally get some new information on the PlayStation 3?

JM: The answer is yes. In general, platform providers have a unique opportunity at the GDC to share knowledge with and inspire the people who will make or break their consoles, namely the game developers themselves. With that in mind, this GDC keynote, along with the Nintendo keynote by Satoru Iwata, have both been in development for several months, and contain significant editorial value and developer takeaway. I strongly encourage you to attend both platform keynotes.

He also reveals that next year it's going back to San Francisco again.

AWWWWW HERE IT GO!

We are currently experiencing a hotel space shortage in San Jose, for GDC 06, and the convention center is maxed out. For those reasons, we're going back to San Francisco in 2007, with the dates of March 5-9 in Moscone West and North.

Damnit, why couldn't they have done that this year!?! Argh! I hate driving (but mostly parking) to San Jose.

Oh well, might not be an issue for me next year either way if I get employed, though its good to have lodgings close to the BART station with my folks place in case.

You should've posted an identical thread with this news, only replace PS3 with Revolution. Just to see which one gets more posts. We could probably figure out who's gonna win next gen that way.

I'm joking

Wasn't someone hinting that there would be a big PS3 blowout at GDC? Not getting my hopes up, but this time I think we might just get some new info.

Lol @ citrus.

Well my guess (and this is strictly a guess) is that Sony will finally talk a bit more about their real online plans for PS3 and the PlayStation brand/network in general. I think E3 will still be the coming out party in terms of finalizing the hardware price and date and all that.

Ha, ha....parking in San Fran is even worse, IMO....I never had any problems with parking when GDC was in San Ho :/

Don't park in SF. Park in South SF or Burlingame, wherever.

Ride the CalTrain and walk just a little. It's like a 5 minute walk (it's @ Moscone, right?)

I hope they both try to out-do eachother.

This is the only solution IMO....

BTW, I haven't lived in the bay area since 2000....does BART extend down to burlingame now??

I know the plan was to go all the way down to SFO, right?

I miss the Bay soooo badly.....Caltrain made getting around so easy :(

There is a certain someone at GAF who already mentioned GDC is stage one of three for the PS3 unveiling, with stage three being E3.

If you look at the keynotes from last year, you can get a sense of what gets revealed. It's not a blowout, but it's big chunks of the puzzle -- Allard talked up the user interface, gamer card, Live, etc., which turned out to be significant.

If no one releases screens before E3, things will REALLY be interesting. Will PS3 games look substantially better than 360 second gen games? Will the Revolution games really be that ugly? Can a new way to play really make up for no HD? Will anyone care after seeing Halo 3?

It'll be interesting to hear fanboy reports on who had more people at their booths. :lol

Well, unlike San Jose, I don't have to park in the city because of the BART system (the Powell Street station is only a block away from Moscone) which made it nicer.

Although, my parking experience in SJ is limited as it was 2 years ago and I was only there one day and I arrived at around noon. Not doing that this year, getting there in the morning bright and early.

tons of free parking at the millbrae stationa nd then a 3.50$ caltrain ride (about 8 blocks from there). from millbrae you can catch bullets and the ride is only 16 or 17 minutes

plus if you are flying in, millbrae is also bart station so you can just bart back and forth from airport... cheers.

All the rumors I heard said it was a booking issue which is why it was back down in San Jose.

This year's GDC is in the San Jose Convention Center.

Yep, thats why i was ranting to begin with. :D

Though actually, I like the downtown San Jose as its one of the cleanest cities I've seen (well, at least it was that way two years ago). Though some people don't like it because there's no night life, but that don't bother me.

Hmm, rumors I heard indicated that it was moved to San Fran last year because San Jose was raising rates on the convention center and the GDC didn't want to pay. So when they moved to SF and had a show with even higher attendance, SJ capitulated and even lowered the rates, and they added center space too.

Though a booking issue probably seems more real-world.

Oh christ, not another supposed event for "new" PS3 info. I hope we actually get something, but automatically now that this was said anything short of Phil Harrison jumping off the stage and revealing a trailer full of playable PS3s will disappoint

:(

I have a feeling this one is legit. I mean all of the other one's were rumors and speculation... Sony never said straight up they would release new info at CES, Devstation, etc., delusional fanboys like us just assumed they would. This is legit... confirmed by a spokeswoman.

I wonder what they are going to talk about...

Well...
GDC website said:
Focusing on the new creative, technical, and business opportunities provided by the arrival of PlayStation 3, the keynote will share Sony Computer Entertainment's innovative plans for the format and will provide a look at how new technology and new business models will help fuel the growth of the computer entertainment industry by attracting new consumers.

SCE is recognized as the global leader of the video game business with over 200 million hardware units and billions of software units sold across the three PlayStation formats. The recent global success of PlayStation Portable has shown the company’s commitment to continued innovation—developing the market beyond the traditional definitions of the game consumer.

This keynote will look at the tremendous opportunities presented to game developers worldwide as the industry goes “beyond the box.”

My hope...

Phil Harrison: "There has been a lot of buzz around the media that the PS3 has been delayed, and that we're way off our timetable. First, let me confirm that Sony is indeed pushing up the timeline for PS3 release until late Summer 2006 in Japan. However, we are still dedicated to releasing the console in all three territories before the end of the year. We are confident this is something we can deliver, and that we'll have the amazing software support to do it."

-- Then I'll think GDC was good.

No night life in San Ho???

If you need to get your drunk on, SJ is a great place to visit, not to mention there are dance clubs aplenty there with bitches flowing from so many directions you will need one of these:

EDIT

....for the whiplash you're sure to get from spyin them :D

If you are the least bit into FINE-ASS women of color (Black, chicas, brazilians) then go to the Beehive in downtown SJ....I met my wife there :D

Serously...as a San Jose native for all my life there is plenty of activity downtown at night. The Beehive is a classic too. Its been running for many years. I should go someday.....

I am probably going to park at a light rail station and take that in since it stops right in front of the CC. But I do only live bout 15 minutes from downtown. 2 years ago I ended up parking in some random companies parking lot which was fenced in. Had to hop the fence to get in at night to leave.

One other thing I like about it being downtown is all the hotels are right there close so it makes it easier to make it to appointments with companies.

the two years i lived in san jose were the most boring two years of my life. the place is absolute hell.

I see similar threads fos gen event, feb event, march event, now is the turn of gdc, well

we'll continue in this way until late 2006?
:D

Maybe stupid to say but why are people so anxious about the revealing of the ps3 you know everything already:
better graphics: check
Better online mode: like XBL check.
The only intresting thing to see is what games will there be on and are they very different for what we have seen the last 20 years. Or is it more of the same.
But this my opnion.

Holy shit even I had trouble deciphering the above...

I cant wait until GDC. Id love to see some more games or new media of games that we know about. Soince there was soem new news about DMC4 maybe we will get to see that there. Id by thrilled if we got to see or hear anything new about MGS4, but I guess Kopnami are saving that for E3

Id love to hear about anything regarding the PS3 controller. Its grown on my now and I dont think that the controller looks that bad or feel as uncomfortable as I first imagined, but Im hoping that there will be a redisesign or some modification which will make the pad look nicer.
