Interesting. Needs more testing for the heat dissipation and cooling but lighter by a pound and also uses up to 20-30W less during gaming.
and now YouTuber Austin Evans has taken a look at the internals and discovered a lot of changes.
I can't stand the shit head.Austin Evans doesn't know shit about shit.
Cooling solutions can perform very different, even if smaller, I guess, but 20-30W less consumption without a die shrink. How? Did they manage to lower the voltage and since it was running rather high for consoles, the impact is sort of huge?
There is nothing to fix.Coil whine fix?
Coil whine is quite random, it can be reduced with quality engineering though. There is nothing to fix.
My 3080 got way worse coil whine. It's normal electrical noise which is hardly audible. Ps5 is really quiet
There is no official word yet though? 6 was since the beginning the presumed easy path, but it never was announced or even acknowledged as a possibility by Sony or AMD. Surprising they didn't do it much earlier if this is actually this. Especially when Ryzen just now start with N5, so I wonder if the extra cost of 5 rather sooner wouldn't be worth it, when you are supply constraint and also want to avoid shipping huge boxes.TSMC N6 could be a possibility. It's fully design-compatible with N7 chip designs so you can just throw your old SoC design on there and get some of the benefits.
Wonder if the SoC is on 6nm now.
Could explain the lower power draw and new board, heatsink.
My fear too. That would dash any hopes of a slim model.
They should work on reducing size as well.
Somebody has to pay the engineers who redisgned the PS5 right?Redesign = lower costs for them.. but strangely higher price for us - wahey cheers Jimmy boy.

Usually they redesign it and keep the price the same (ie raise the profit margin) but this time they're raising the price (for all markets except the US because they're afraid of Xbox gaining market share). Plus the engineers are already paid from regular company profits (unless they are on some sort of specific bonus tied to redesign-related margin gains, which I doubt would be the case).Somebody has to pay the engineers who redisgned the PS5 right?
For a first impression the article/video is alright.
Now we have to wait for GN or someone else to do an in depth review.
I don't understand that article , I need a house on fire analogy to understand better....Some of you will remember it.

It can be fixed. Xbox series x puts a dampening goo on the components to prevent coil whine and it works great. Series X is the quietest console I've ever owned. By contrast, the coil whine in the PS5 makes it by far the loudest console I've owned. There is nothing to fix.

wow they've shrunk the heat sink by a massive amount![]()
The power connector is on a different place, too.
There is so much changed. Maybe a more efficient power supply. That would also reduce power draw. But more efficent power supply = increased costs, so I doubt it.

It is really quiet. My launch day ps4 sounded like a rocket launch in its last 4 years (thing is it was silent from 2013— 2018, so don't know why that is). Ps5 I don't even hear. My 3060ti and steam deck probably make more noise, but with 9 fans blowing air, it's kinda hard to tell what's coming from what. There is nothing to fix.

6nm APU could be more expensive and would explain everything: price increase and 10% power reduction (which is significant and can't be explained by more efficient power supply as the old power supply was already pretty decent in that area).![]()

Waiting for this guy to make a review:

Oh, snap!! There's already a link to it in the Verge article![]()
Only time I hear my PS5 is when the disc drive engages. It is really quiet overall, as is my XSX. Sucks yours has that issue.
The new console will be known as the almost-slim.
Homie never owned a ps4 it seems. It can be fixed. Xbox series x puts a dampening goo on the components to prevent coil whine and it works great. Series X is the quietest console I've ever owned. By contrast, the coil whine in the PS5 makes it by far the loudest console I've owned.
at this point why not wait for a PS5 Slim? This is gonna happen for sure, the 1200 revision. I'm just wondering when we will hear an official word from Sony. I didn't have a PS5 yet, so the new revision soon would be a great thing for me !
Are you saying the PS4 is quieter than an Xbox Series X? because it is NOT lol.Homie never owned a ps4 it seems.
Yeah me too. It is so quite that I have to check the light to know that it is running unlike the jet engine that was the PS4.Only time I hear my PS5 is when the disc drive engages. It is really quiet overall, as is my XSX. Sucks yours has that issue.
I've owned several.Homie never owned a ps4 it seems.
judging by those photos going from 1100 to 1200 seems like a plausible still noticeable improvement. But starting from that humungous piece of the 1000 version, it is surprising, that we don't have exploding PS5s now everywhere.wow they've shrunk the heat sink by a massive amount

All this at no extra cost...
... oh wait, no, that's not right. The PS5 now costs £30.00 more here in the UK and is more expensive in many other territories as well bar the U.S.
So, they managed to cut down cost of new PlayStation 5 while they increased price at same time?
Cool...
...I guess
