... oh wait, no, that's not right. The PS5 now costs £30.00 more here in the UK and is more expensive in many other territories as well bar the U.S.
The keyword by Sony seems to have been to fix the supply problem and more than reducing the cost of the console (sure, it looks like it is using a lighter and cheaper cooling solution thanks to the improved thermals and other changes). Sony wanted to massively increase supply and do it quickly too: suppliers love those words together

While the cooling solution may be cheaper, there is R&D costs involved to do the redesign period but while the components they may be sourcing now might be easier to procure but a bit more pricey too (manufacturing cost of the APU on a new node might be even more expensive than before for example).
