Hell yeah, I’ve been excited to hear their new stuff since John came back. Josh is a great musician but his writing never jived like Flea and John

John saved the Peppers with every album he did. He basically made the band their fortune after he replaced Hillell Slovak. The albums with Josh (his replacement and protegee after he last quit) were pretty much forgettable as he sounded like Frusciante-lite but he was coming into form until he was told he was out. Always thought that was such a backstabbing thing to do, especially when Josh admitted he knew it was always going to happen. In interviews he always seemed like he was cowed and his last ones he looked like a kicked dog.

As for the song and a huge fan, it's shite and no better than than a B-Side. And even then the Chili Peppers had no decent B-Sides after Californication. Frusciante is the highlight of the song and the autotune is absolutely horribly used, it's cranked to 11 on it and really amateur hour.

That and the fact the album was finished ages ago, nearly pre-COVID and this is the best they can put out for a single. I'm hoping for one or two decent songs and I'll be happy. Might even inspire me to pick up my dusty Les Paul again but I ain't hopeful.

Energy from the video doesn't fit the music. Tune is okay. Would rather listen to this sound but better from earlier albums.

I like your comments.

Can you tell me more the story about the RHCP?

Not a huge fan of Anthony's new haircut lol.

OK song overall. Sounds to me like a very average RHCP cut. The guitar soloing is great, though.

The band never lost their soul and I'm glad RHCP is still making music, but they should have created something more catchy, poppy and energetic for a first single/video. I have a feeling this album will not break though commercially or surpass any musical expectations, and will probably be a middle-of-the-road RHCP release. Still, good to see Frusciante back in the band and alive and well, he's a bit of an enigma.

Sure.

Anthony got hooked up on drugs early, met Flea in school. Father was in the Holywood scene. They didn't get on and then they did.

Constant drugs, drugs everywhere. Then after many bust ups released more music after many members either died, quit or left.

Kiedis himself has a book that is pretty self-serving and damning to the band. You think Aerosmith was bad, look what the fame did to Frusciante.

Why does his moustache look fake?

The song is alright, better than expected.

I haven't really listened/liked RHCP since that stadium arcadium album, loved their prior stuff too. (By the way and californicafion are my fave albums) with the exception off that give it away song, it just always irritated me.

& This is still one of my fave songs ever :)

Edit: Now I'm just listening too all my fave rhcp songs haha

It's not great, but it is better than there recent output. I actually think One Hot Minute might be my favorite album of theirs though, I remember being slightly disappointed when it came out, but it has grown on me considerably over the years.

Kind of sounds like it belongs on By the Way ar first and then it turns into a Stadium Arcadium track.

Used to love RHCP but Anthony Keidus got really annoying for me. Still excited to hear the other tracks. Frusciante is still *chefs kiss*.

Drugs were hard on Frusciante. Crazy story. Voices in his head told him to do drugs for 10 years or so, and voices in his head told him to stop, and he did.

Not without consequences though. His teeth were ruined and he needed reconstructive surgery on his jaw, plus had almost all, if not all, his teeth replaced.

If yoy ever see live recordings where he has his shirt off, it looks luke he has huce burns on his arms. Not burns, those were caused by drugs.

It's amazing the man is alive.

I like it a lot. Feels like it picks up where Stadium Arcadium left off. After a couple listens, I don't think it's quite up there with their best work, but it's a solid return to form. I dig the unorthodox song structure: basically long intro > chorus > solo > half chorus > second solo. This is the most excited I've been for an RHCP album in 15 years.

I think he actually got burned in a house fire too (because of…drugs)

Terrible video, meh vocals and lyrics, but I like the instruments.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik will never be topped.
For other Californication is its best album. RHCP and Depeche Mode share the same fate. For a group DP fans Violator is its best album , others think is Songs of Faith and Devotion. But after those albums DM has done bland ones...same for RHCP after BSSM and Californication.

Guess we have to be happy they keep doing music but it seems the days of great hits are gone for both bands...

I'm not sure I even like Californication but that could be because the radio play for the album was insane. It's got good songs on it but it feels really safe and poppy compared to their earlier works. With all respect to Frusciante, One Hot Minute might be my next favorite album.

Some of RHCP’s best stuff is on By the Way and Stadium Arcadium. The last two albums were mostly forgettable because John left…which does Josh dirty, but he just wasn’t it for this band. They need John.

Funnily enough Josh may be the best drummer the band’s ever hand, and Chad’s one of the GOATs

I haven't really loved anything from them since Californication and find Frusciante's junkie personality pretty annoying but they do put out better music with him. That said this song is kinda meh even though the solo was pretty good.

I'm kinda at the point where I feel like a RHCP song is only as good as Flea makes it. I'll listen to the album when it comes out and just find the funkiest songs where Flea and Will Ferrell go off.

He wasn't harmed in the fire. I don't think it has been established what the initial cause of the fire that burned his house down was.

The scars on his arms are from the skin grafts he received to avoid having his arms amputated due to the abscesses caused by improper drug injection.

Guess I am glad they are still making music. But it really is not for me. Not metal enough. And too much stache. I didn't mind some of their earlier work. Who doesn't love "give it away"?

Honestly I thought the Anthony's singing and lyrics were terrible the first time. I kind of like it now it now. The guy just has a knack for writing songs somehow. Looking forward to the album. It's really nice to hear to John, Flea and Chad playing together again. That is pure musical comfort food for me.

RHCP are my favorite band. Of all time. To say I have been excited about Frusciante returning would be an understatement. This song does many beautiful things for me. I’m beyond happy with it and cannot wait for 1st April for the new double album to release.

Mind you I still love the albums without Frusciante but with him they’re easily the best band around.

I only ever liked one of their songs, soul to squeeze.

The fact it was meant to be on the album, got released as a B-side and then later as a single when everyone said 'WTF? why is this not on the album?' was telling. They were even filmed recording it on the music doc "Funky Monks".

Hurts my ears to hear Anthony sing so flat and sharp but Frusciante's guitar playing is incredible and effortless. He was still amazingly young. Crazy that he left touring that album and they didn't play that song live until late.

To everyone saying OHM was great, I'm right with you. I didn't even know it existed until I saw it on a shelf on my daily checking of the local music shop. Fucking love that album, the fact they ignored it when Frusciante rejoined and didn't at least play 'Aeroplane' live was a shame. Frusciante said he wouldn't play anything off it, so he's to blame there. I wonder if it's the same case with the last 2 albums with Josh, only time will tell.

Best songs off OHM.

- Aeroplane
- My Friends
- Pea
- Walkabout (Funky as fuck)
- Shallow be thy game

I remember it's release of "Warped" and the kiss between Anthony and Navarro at the end on MTV caused a bit of a stir. Personally I didn't like the song anyway and not because of the kiss thing (which was two people off their head on heroin) it just seemed like a weird first single and far away from anything they did before. Perhaps even clever to get back into the news.

I didn’t like the vocals at first then the video released. Excited beyond belief for the album and tour to follow.

John is a musical genius.
For me the vocals feel really out of place against this song. The rest is pretty great but the vocals bring it down to just a decent RHCP song, which feels odd to say.

It's a very middling song in general. The whole thing sounds like an intro that is about to get good and then never does.

If you had a "write a song by the numbers" for the RHCP, this would be it. That said, it's not awful or offensive or anything. Not feeling the single but I'm excited for the new album.
